DRS Ramps by taking advantage of the most integral part of any competitive deck, on both sides of the table. This isn’t even in the same zip code as DRS. And, you should feel very crazy.
... and this card ramps by creating a token with a very RELEVANT type. A rainbow mana dork that brings an artifact to the table, makes more artifacts, and provides life gain against aggro strats sounds fantastic to me. Not to mention that even if you bolt the bird, the egg hangs around for fun with urza, engineer, opal, and whir. I honestly expect this card to be heavily played in standard, and break into modern.
Not a chance. This is way too slow. Standard, obviously. But eternal formats? Give me a break lol. DRS wasn’t just good because it gained you life and ramped. It had relevant creature typing, was splashable to the point that every deck played it, gained life, dealt non-combat life loss, and most importantly, hated on GY’s. You weren’t supporting DRS. You have to support the golden goose.
Goose is self supporting.
Lol. Ok pal. Spending 2 mana to create one isn’t exactly “self supporting”.
I agree, to a point. There are times where I have open mana during my opponent's turn, and blocking and creating a Food, isn't the worst thing in the world. Besides knowing what else we can use Food for, I can use it for anything looking to count artifacts. Karn, Scion of Urza.
How often are you blocking something with power 2 or less with that mana open? Not often enough to make it worth it at all. If there is enough food support, sure, maybe it has a shell(lol) built for it. But, again, to fuel this card you are paying 2 mana per turn to create one. That is certainly not modern/eternal playable.

i find brawl more competitive than regular commander, but mostly because EDH is just singleton Legacy/Vintage, which basically means its a very combo oriented format with very little interaction at its core. Brawl (without Baral) feels a bit better than that, although i would say this event did not showcase the depth of play very well because of how overwhelmingly good the esper commander was. Chulane and Jund Dragon probably have a decent chance of being super good, but i wouldnt touch Knights unless Golos was the commander. That Knight commander is just completely awful at 6. needed to be 5 cmc or less to even look competitive.
That esper deck is very glass-cannony. I’ve played with both the Mardu and Jund decks, and while not quite as explosive early, a well timed wrath or removal completely crippled my opponent even when they had the upper hand for most of the game. Most players aren’t willing to ride out the storm, which is how we’ve gotten the “Esper is to good” narrative here. One thing is for certain, though, and it seems the Eaper deck is the most popular. I played about 6 or 7 games last night, 5 were against the esper deck.
Deathrite Shaman is the only 1-drop creature in Magic's history that can ramp you and gain you life and it is banned in Modern and Legacy. DRS isn't even self-fueling. I don't feel crazy for thinking this might end up as the most important card in the set.

Putting value into one product doesn’t mean they can’t put it into other ones. Putting a shock in all four of these and then some just makes it look like they don’t care about the commander decks.
I believe it to be the opposite. Including high priced reprints means you are expecting them to drive sales, and not the new product. That’s a problem. Commander sells based on new, interesting designs.
This is going to exist in standard for what, another 12 months? There won’t be any value to this reprint once brawl is released.
The new cards look fantastic. Will probably grab a deck or 2.
Have you ever played Commander? On EDHrec, it’s literally the single most included enchantment over the past month. It’s the 15th most used enchantment of the last two years, and will only move up as time goes on. The card will always have value.
I play plenty of Commander. The card was just released. There will be plenty of copies out, and even more if Brawl takes off. That price may go up after rotation, but it won’t hold in the short term, and who knows if it’ll still be as sought after then.
My point was more or less aimed at the “why can’t commander include reprints like these” to drive them off the shelves.
Witch's Cottage looks like a neato 1-of in BGx Midrange variants. It can't be that hard for Jund to get a basic Swamp, an Overgrown Tomb, and a Blood Crypt by the late midgame, for instance.
Yeah, it certainly isn’t a 4-of in anything but a potential standard deck for obvious reasons, but, it’s not an effect that would pay off early regardless. Getting to 4 while returning a threat is good value. Has some synergy with Rotting Regisaur.
Is the person in question actually a neo-nazi? Or do we just not agree with his views so we apply a label? Cuts both ways. Glad that’s what you got out of that, though.
A bad BOP? Unless there is good support for food tokens, I just don’t see it. I suppose there is interesting synergy with Oko, but is that enough? BTW, “Sacrifice a food”?
Returning a creature to your hand for 0 IF and only if you have 3 Swamps already in play would be powerful. Returning it to top is way less impressive.
It’s a fetchable Volraths Stronghold? People really need to start having realistic expectations.
I think it’s going to be exiling it as part of the adventure cost, then returning it to the battlefield at the beginning of your next upkeep. Both effects are sorcery speed, which I’d say is fair to have to cast this and then exile it as part of cost to return it. Doesn’t dodge instant speed removal so it’s not too OP’d, though giving it a supertype indicates they could include instants(balanced of course).
That’s my hunch and I’m sticking to it. I know I thought it had to be storybook-like, but now that we have 2 cards to speculate on, I’m leaning this route.
This thread going to turn into the other one? Because the card itself is pretty cool, and we’re only a page deep and here comes the BS.
I know, right? If there was another thread regarding hate speech, I am sadly unaware of it. Anyways, as previously stated, we should get back to the card. Have fun ya'll!
Not really, just a thread going off the rails regarding the Forbes art of this character. I just found it kind of amusing that one person shouting down potentially bigoted ideas comes to this thread and immediately makes a comment that can be seen as nothing more than stirring the pot, really. Then, you have the neo-nazi comment. I don’t personally care if it’s true or not, but the fact is, it will encourage the use of similar “labels”.

Lol, I mean, sure. Shouldn’t have ventured to begin with, but, hey, I’m not the one who made the comment.

Which, prior to the second spoiler, wasn’t exactly clear.

Food, so far, isn’t very exciting.
