One thing which is constantly bugging me is the fact, that those leaks are always horrible quality. How? Every person has a HD camera on his mobile phone....

It may surprise you, but not everyone has one of the latest model phones with HD cameras. Some of us have better things to spend or hard (or not so hard) earned cash on than the latest model Iphone, like Magic cards. Smile

well even a smartphone which is 2 years old makes perfectly fine photos of something 30cm in front of it. Its not that you need the newest smartphone generation to do that.

But its every time the same. Everytime some photo leaks like that show up, they look so freaking aweful its not even funny. And i just dont know why..

Maybe they're in some super top-secret location with unauthorized access and they're trying to swipe the phone out real quick and take picture all smooth-like. So you end up with quasi-action photo instead of regular HD photo.
Aren't those leaks from stole boosters. Not an expert photograph nor a leaker but he should had all the time to take good photos.

    New episode synopsis is up:

EPISODE 04: THE BLIGHT WE WERE BORN FOR
Disaster has struck the Zendikari forces, with Gideon, Jace, Chandra, Kiora, and Nissa either missing or dead, and the Eldrazi titans Ulamog and Kozilek loose and rampaging amidst the devastated Zendikari army. The hopes of Zendikar rest on an unlikely hero, one who long ago lost her own hope...

Who do we think this "unlikely hero" is? Tazri?

Definitely, last UR reveled Tazri command zen forces.

The way I think they would introduce a non-sorin black planeswalker would be by a) having that planeswalker join by force for whatever reason that make it possible to control it or b) having that planeswalker join for saving himself/herself or for personal gain.

You don't want some Deus Ex Machina shenanigans. Kriemes should have explain that tidbit in the story. Leaving it out makes the readers question your credibility. Assuming your readers know everything is your downfall.

Still, it doesn't make the story any better IMO. Gideon was definitely on some steroids/otherworldly stuff. Or Son Goku must have possessed him.
Maybe the Walkers don't know themselves (outside of Ugin). I'd much rather they not mention it than insert it as random exposition. It's possible it'll be mentioned later still, remember the plot for the block is only half over.

Also - we know Gideon can become invulnerable, to the point where he didn't die even though a divine weapon wiped out all his friends. I think I can buy him fending off some of Ulamog's tentacles for a couple minutes so long as the whole 'turn to dust immediately' thing is addressed.

The flavor text of one the card spoiled yesterday implies that planeswalkers are immunute 'turn to dust immediately'.

I think a lot of the Surge design ideas on this thread are neat, but I want to make sure everyone understands that it is an alternate cost and not an additional cost. Some of the ideas are absurdly OP, reducing cost and adding benefit, as if it were an additional cost instead of an alternate cost (unsure of that? read Crush of Tentacles again). I will be surprised if many of the surge costs are less than the original cost. Awaken, for example, always cost a lot more than I thought it should to get the benefit of the awoken land. Going from 3WW to 5WWW on Planar Outburst, for example, makes the Awaken cost virtually unplayable except in limited or super long control grindy games. The mythic surge card is one less mana cost and is sorcery speed. Instant speed surge cards seem nuts to me, as the shenanigans of cheap cantrip followed by a powerful surge card will generate lots of card advantage. As others have stated, I think surge costs will be on 4+ CMC cards primarily and the surge cost will be comparable or potentially even more than the original cost.

To me Surge look akin to Prowl which reduce the cost but can increase it if there is a additional effect.

    Resist Consumption 1WW
    Instant
    Surge 1W
Exile all creatures you control until end of turn. If you paid Resist Consumption's surge cost, prevent all combat damage that you would take this turn.

    Mental Synergy U
    Instant
    Surge 1UU
Draw a card. If you paid ~'s surge cost, draw two more cards.

    Dread Eye 2BB
    Instant
    Surge 1BB
Creatures you don't control get -1/-1 until end of turn. If you paid Dread Eye's surge cost, destroy target creature.

    Inspired Rage 2R
    Sorcery
    Surge 1R
Creatures you control get +1/+0, haste, and trample until end of turn. If you paid Inspired Rage's surge cost, put a 3/1 red elemental creature token with haste onto the battlefield.

    Survival 1GG
    Instant
    Surge G
Creatures you control gains hexproof and indestructible until end of turn. If you paid Survival's surge cost, target creature you control gets +2/+2 until end of turn.

The red sorcery is odd since the element don't get the bonuses with the current way it is written

Fair enough! Either way, thanks for the article.

I am curious if WotC pays attention to this kind of stuff. I doubt they would ever admit it but the majority of their testing is obviously focused on standard and limited so I think this kind of unbias testing would be very useful to them if they decided to listen. Even this very thread has had some really good discussions (also some terrible ones) that could be really useful in monitoring feelings of certain unbans. Not nearly as useful as your testing though!

They already said they mostly only test standard/limited hence errors like delve spells.

Painful Truths is just sweet. Lingering Souls?

Is this deck a good choice to start modern ?

    What's your target in modern?

Well for starters something not too expesive 'cause I'm still in college. Second some kind of RW aggro decks not too hard to pilot so I can get used to madern but I'm not interested in burn.

For me at the moment getting rid of Contamination isn't that much of an issue since my primary deck these day is Alesha. And I don't want to build mean decks like Alesha, Who Smiles at Death + Avalanche Riders or Alesha + Master of Cruelties because it's hard to convince other players around who only play casual to start a commander deck when those are around.

One of my friend resently build a mono black deck with Contamination and cards with effect similar to Bitterblossom and would like arguments to convice him to drop Contamination.

EDIT: All other people in our group play fair decks for fun games not ultra competitive Magic

Clearly you didn't see the depressing spoiler.
    Jace (U), has been confirmed
Nahiri (W), was said to be an if and not a when on the chances of her appearing in the next 7 years by MaRo...
Tamiyo (U), was last seen on Innistrad but Shadows already has a mono-blue walker so chances of two are low. Like extremely low considering the last time we got two blue walkers was Khans, Narset and Sarkhan. Too soon.
    Tibalt (R), probably.

    EDIT
Alara - 3 red walkers (Chandra, Nicol & Ajani), 2 blue walkers (Tezzeret & Nicol) & 2 white walkers (Elspeth & Ajani)
Zen - 2 red walkers (Sarkhan & Chandra) & 2 black walkers (Sorin & Sarkhan)
Scars - 2 blue walkers (Venser & Tezzeret) & 2 white walkers (Venser & Elspeth)
INS - 3 black walkers (Sorin, Garruk & Liliana)
RtR - 2 blue walkers (Jace & Ral Zarek) & 2 green walkers (Vraska & Domri)
THS - 3 green walkers (Ajani, Kiora & Xenagos), 2 blue walkers (Ashiok & Kiora) & 2 white walkers (Elspeth & Ajani)
KTK - 2 blue walkers (Sarkhan & Narset), 2 red walkers (Sarkhan & Sarkhan) & 2 white walkers (Narset & Sorin)
Well crap, since they seem to love having so many blue walkers now I expect Tamiyo to come back. Maybe.
There is a typo in the edit it's not Chandra but Sarkhan.
