Mar 12, 2019I wonder if it is worth it to replace Lumbering Falls in this deck with Stirring Wildwood ?Posted in: Budget (Modern)
It has a better body, can block flyers and costs less to animate which seems like a good tradeoff for losing hexproof.
Another concern here is losing blue mana sources for white.
Mar 11, 2019This is an interesting idea but i'm not sure how it fits this thread as it doesn't really have: defender creatures, Arcades or Worship with High Alert being the only thing it has in common with the deck being discussed here.Posted in: Deck Creation (Modern)
I'd suggest starting a new thread and maybe naming it "Zur's High Alert Wizards" or something similar.
Mar 8, 2019I don't think that cards like Cindervines and Heroic Intervention should be in the maindeck, they are purely SB material.Posted in: Deck Creation (Modern)
I'd probably add some number of Birds of Paradise for more ramp instead.
Rhythm of the Wild is pretty good here but 4x seems too much so I'd cut it down to 2x to add 2x more Walking Ballista (probably the best card in the deck).
Clan Defiance might be worth considering over Banefire as it can hit multiple targets.
Crater's Claws is also an option as it gets a "ferocious" bonus from your fat creatures.
Mistcutter Hydra is a decent hydra as well with natural haste and uncounterable.
Might be worth playing over Savageborn Hydra.
Garruk, Primal Hunter can be pretty good in this deck to draw a ton of cards or pump out beast tokens.
I'd go with something like this:
Gruul Meandering HydrasMagic OnlineOCTGN2ApprenticeBuy These Cards Creature (22)
4x Arbor Elf
2x Birds of Paradise
4x Walking Ballista
2x Mistcutter Hydra
4x Apocalypse Hydra
4x Rosheen Meanderer
2x Polukranos, World Eater
4x Utopia Sprawl
2x Rhythm of the Wild
4x Bonfire of the Damned
2x Clan Defiance
4x Lightning Bolt
4x Wooded Foothills
4x Windswept Heath
4x Stomping Ground
2x Cinder Glade
2x Kessig Wolf Run
2x Ruric Thar, the Unbowed
2x Anger of the Gods
3x Beast Within
2x Scavenging Ooze
1x Relic of Progenitus
2x Obstinate Baloth
Mar 8, 2019I'd consider Risk Factor (at worst it is Flames) instead of Shrine and up your Skewer count to 4x.Posted in: Budget (Modern)
Shard Volley is a reasonable 1x-of.
If I were to add creatures I'd consider Rampaging Ferocidon.
Grim Lavamancer is also a reasonable option as a 2x-of.
Alternatively tou could add Wizard's Lightning and some wizards to support it like: Ghitu Lavarunner and Viashino Pyromancer (and also Grim Lavamancer).
These can take the slots of: Shrine, Devil and some of the weaker burn spells like the "Searing" ones.
You also need somthing in the SB for decks that will bring Leyline of Sanctity against you.
Since you don't have a splash color to remove it you'll probably want more creatures to deal the extra damage, something like Goblin Rabblemaster.
# I'd also consider Pillar for the SB to deal with annoying recursive creatures like Finks and Phoenix.
# Molten Rain can also be useful dealing with decks like Tron.
Mar 7, 2019Here is the Biomancer's Familiar deck - https://www.mtggoldfish.com/articles/against-the-odds-biomancer-combo-modern-magic-onlinePosted in: Deck Creation (Modern)
It doesn't even play Training Grounds as Familiar is so easy to find with creature-tutors.
The deck turned better that it looked though it can probably be improved quite a bit.
Mar 6, 2019Drift is probably a solid option though the tutoring is a bit slow especailly for a deck without Battlement/Axebane to generate an absurd amount of mana.Posted in: Deck Creation (Modern)
The next card I want to try out is 2x Tetsuko Umezawa, Fugitive in the Tower Defense slot as I suspect it might work better.
Instead of the 1-shot option can provide a reliable way to chip in damage consistently.
Mar 4, 2019After playing some games with the deck I have to say that I like how the new cards performed, especially:Posted in: Deck Creation (Modern)
Deputy of Detention and Shimmer of Possibility besides the obvious High Alert.
Tower Defense stole some games and though it was hit & miss and in some matchups and was the first to be sided out I still think that I want it in the deck.
The combination of Tower Defense + High Alert and the flyers is very good to switch from defence to offense and 1-shot the opponent.
Beast Within seems like the most redundant card in the maindeck and is probably good enough as just a 2x-of SB card.
I consider adding 2x more defenders instead and the best option I could think off is probably Carven Caryatid for the solid body and the cantrip effect.
Cutting the 23rd land also seems like possible option and can potentially be replaced by a cantrip.
I also want to replace the 4th High Alert with a Glittering Wish to have access to a toolbox out of the SB like:
Knight of Autumn, Detention Sphere and other potential options like: Meddling Mage, Spell Queller/Absorb/Voidslime, Gaddock Teeg
and Sigarda, Host of Herons.
Mar 4, 2019Here is the new build I'm trying out:Posted in: Deck Creation (Modern)
Bant Intruder Alarm 3.0Magic OnlineOCTGN2ApprenticeBuy These Cards Creature (20)
4x Noble Hierarch
2x Birds of Paradise
4x Steward of Solidarity
4x Thraben Doomsayer
4x Eternal Witness
2x Renegade Rallier
4x Oath of Nissa
4x Intruder Alarm
4x Commune with the Gods
4x Shimmer of Possibility
4x Path to Exile
4x Windswept Heath
4x Flooded Strand
2x Temple Garden
1x Breeding Pool
1x Hallowed Fountain
4x Razorverge Thicket
2x Stony Silence
4x Leyline of Sanctity
2x Scavenging Ooze
2x Remorseful Cleric
2x Knight of Autumn
I still need to figure out the flex slots of the deck which are now occupied by:
4x Oath of Nissa, 4x Eternal Witness, 4x Shimmer of Possibility and 2x Renegade Rallier.
Some minor SB changes were the additions of Knight of Autumn and Remorseful Cleric over Qasali Pridemage and Tormod's Crypt.
I also consider replacing Path to Exile with Deputy of Detention (or Detention Sphere).
Feb 27, 2019I want to revive this thread as the printing of Shimmer of Possibility can potentially help solve the consistency issue of this deck (not finding Intruder Alarm on time) without resorting to slower/narrow methods like Idyllic Tutor/Benefaction of Rhonas or even Drift of Phantasms.Posted in: Deck Creation (Modern)
I think that Oath of Nissa and Commune with the Gods are still worth keeping in the deck though maybe it is worth considering to go with some blue cantrips instead like Serum Visions or Anticipate.
As far as the support creatures go there are 3x main options imho:
Eternal Witness, Renegade Rallier and Court Hussar (there is also Militia Bugler but it only digs for creatures).
# Rallier is very good with Oath and Fetches and brings back dead mana dorks and Steward without paying mana.
# Witness can bring back anything (including Shimmer and Alarm unlike Rallier) but is slower and GG can sometimes be an issue.
# Hussar is an Anticipate with a body that can be hit of Oath but is unremarkable otherwise.
Feb 23, 2019Check out this thread - https://www.mtgsalvation.com/forums/the-game/modern/deck-creation-modern/646969-modern-illusions?comment=42Posted in: Deck Creation (Modern)
There has been an extensive discussion about the deck there and there doesn't seem to be much new to add there besides mayne Arcane Adaptation which works well with Lord of the Unreal.
Labyrinth Guardian is a bad creature and Gossamer Phantasm is a weak filler card.
Æther Figment is mediocre as well as the kicker cost is too high to be relevant most of the time making it mostly a worse Phantom Warrior
(which isn't great either).
I'd cut those to add more tempo-removal like Vapor Snag or Unsubstantiate.
Feb 23, 2019You should at least play some copies of Fabricate if finding P.Staff is so crucial.Posted in: Deck Creation (Modern)
Overall the idea is interesting but is probably not the best use of Deploy the Gatewatch and would work better with Lightning Storm as the finisher (after stacking all lands on the top of tbe deck and drawing them with Treasure Hunt).
Feb 22, 2019It probably is a bit too clunky but splashing for Black can add Behind the Scenes to the deck and make the walls basically unblockable but it will have to take Worship's slot in the deck and require to many pieces for the "combo" to be consistent.Posted in: Deck Creation (Modern)
A simpler but more vulnerable option can be Tetsuko Umezawa, Fugitive.
Feb 21, 2019I want to have several options and not limit the deck to one gameplan.Posted in: Deck Creation (Modern)
As you've mentioned the Worship soft-lock isn't a guaranteed win so having a good option to win the game besides that is important.
Tower Defense can easily lead to one turn wins with 2x walls on board and Arcades/Alert which is much faster than attempting a more staightforward beatdown plan.
Doran is no good here and is worse than Arcades/Alert as it doesn't let creatures with defender attack (and forces splashing a 4th color).
The Doran deck is a completely different thing (no defender creatures) and plays nothing like this deck.
