Dec 17, 2018I think this is an interesting idea but there are some changes I'd suggest:Posted in: Deck Creation (Modern)
# This would probably be better as an Aether Vial (over Doomed Traveler) deck with a lower curve (so no Titan/Etrata) as it accelerates your deployment of creatures and leaves your mana open to activate Witch and cast cards exiled by Specter/Thief.
# Specter is a worse Thief and having both isn't great imho so I'd cut it to add Wasteland Strangler (good with all the exiling cards) or Spell Queller which is another good disruptive flyer.
# You should really play Tidehollow Sculler here, I'd take out cards like Doomfall for it.
Collective Brutality is another card I'd consider here maybe over some of the other discard spells, it will also be good for pitching useless vials later in the game.
# Blight Herder can be pretty good here as an exile payoff, I'd consider it over Ashiok which can be a SB card for slower grindy matchups.
# Some 4-drops worth considering here would be Restoration Angel and Hostage Taker or Ulamog's Nullifier.
Dec 16, 2018I recommend trying out this deck if you want to play Tempered Steel -Posted in: Deck Creation (Modern)
Dec 8, 2018You can try out Sin Prodder, it is vulnerable but can also generate card advantage or pressure the opponent.Posted in: Budget (Modern)
Other options can be random value 3-drops like:
Eternal Witness, Kitchen Finks (got cheaper after UMS reprint) or Thrashing Brontodon (maindeck artifact/enchantment hate).
Another option is to go with 3-drops that can close out a game effectively once opponents stumble on mana (like your deck is supposed to work).
It can be: Goblin Rabblemaster, Hanweir Garrison or Legion Warboss.
Dec 8, 2018I'd take a look at a more eldrazi-focused approach, like this - https://www.mtgsalvation.com/forums/the-game/modern/deck-creation-modern/733491-mono-blue-emerge-eldrazi?comment=11Posted in: Budget (Modern)
The cards that really make the the Emerge deck work imho are:
Eldrazi Skyspawner, Matter Reshaper and potentially Eternal Scourge (best if played together with Relic of Progenitus to continue replaying it).
There is also Filigree Familiar but it is a worse Matter Reshaper for the most part.
I'd drop Release to the Wind as it is not a great card and ends up being a bad Unsummon (or a bad Essence Flux) most of the time if you can't target your Deep Fiend.
Some cheap removal options can be:
Reality Shift (or the slightly worse Rapid Hybridization) and tempo plays like Vapor Snag/Unsubstantiate.
For "hard removal" Dismember is probably best.
To speed up the deck I'd go with Mind Stone or Talisman of Dominance, they can also be played for free if you hit them with Reshaper's death trigger which can be very good.
Dec 5, 2018As far as cheap cantrips are concerned BG decks have access to Oath of Nissa (and the weaker Adventurous Impulse) which is pretty good.Posted in: Modern
There is also the option of "BG Eldrazi" which use the power of Ancient Stirrings to their advantage with a colorless creature base.
Along the lines of this - https://www.mtgsalvation.com/forums/the-game/modern/deck-creation-modern/769244-bg-eldrazi-midrange
Dec 5, 2018What I really dislike about Powerstone Shard is needing multiple copies for it to justify its inclusion otherwise being a bad Manalith.Posted in: Deck Creation (Standard)
Any game where you don't play at least 2x copies it ends up being a bad card.
I'd honestly play Gilded Lotus instead or Chromatic Lantern if a cheaper mana rock is needed.
Regarding cuts I'd probably start with a copy of Primal Amulet as it doesn't really a have many cheap cantrips to flip it.
Ionize can probably be moved the SB if you want to free up slots.
I'd also prefer Anticipate to Radical Idea to dig deeper rather than play what is essentially a bad cycler for 2-mana.
Dec 5, 2018D90Dennis14 posted a message on Temur Tooth and Nail (feat. Kiora, Master of the Depths)There is a T&N/Green Ramp primer already here - https://www.mtgsalvation.com/forums/the-game/modern/established-modern/big-mana/565457-green-nykthos-devotion-includes-tooth-nailPosted in: Deck Creation (Modern)
Why isn't the discussion there ?
Regarding discard spells, there are creatures that hose it like:
Obstinate Baloth, Nullhide Ferox and Loxodon Smiter/Wilt-Leaf Liege if you splash white.
Dec 4, 2018Powerstone Shard doesn't seem like the optimal choice (slow and only provides colorless mana), Treasure Map is probably better as it comes down earlier and while it doesn't ramp right away it helps scry and when flips adds 4x mana 3x of which can pay colored costs of spells.Posted in: Deck Creation (Standard)
Search for Azcanta should be in the deck, it filters draws and turns in to a land for extra mana and card advantage.
A copy of Thaumatic Compass is probably not the worst idea, it isn't fast but it allows to find lands and in the late game flips into a land.
Pirate's Pillage and Spell Swindle can also ramp with treasure tokens.
Jaya Ballard can be a decent option to dig through the deck and ramp for the big burn spells.
Another way to go can be a green splash for more ramp cards like:
Gift of Paradise/Elvish Rejuvenator, Grow from the Ashes and Circuitous Route.
I have a similar deck here - https://www.mtgsalvation.com/forums/the-game/standard-type-2/deck-creation-standard/799272-naya-ramp?comment=28
Dec 4, 2018It seems like somebody is figured out how to build a Red strom deck with Runaway Steam-Kin with the key being Experimental Frenzy as the draw engine.Posted in: Budget (Modern)
The storm cards are notably missing as the finishers as I think they'd at least be better than Devastating Summons for the most part.
Dec 2, 2018The idea of the deck is to play s typical GW value creatures deck with additional instant speed elements (Mindcensor, Resto, Advent, Avacyn)Posted in: Budget (Modern)
to keep opponents guessing and improve the matchup against counterspell-heavy control decks.
The deck also has hatebear elements like: Scavenging Ooze, Aven Mindcensor, Loxodon Smiter, Knight of Autumn, Thalia, Heretic Cathar
and also land hate in the form of Field of Ruin.
Here is the decklist:
Selesnya FlashMagic OnlineOCTGN2ApprenticeBuy These Cards Creature (29)
4x Llanowar Elves
4x Avacyn's Pilgrim
2x Scavenging Ooze
4x Aven Mindcensor
4x Knight of Autumn
4x Loxodon Smiter
1x Thalia, Heretic Cathar
4x Restoration Angel
1x Archangel Avacyn
1x Sun Titan
4x Path to Exile
4x Advent of the Wurm
4x Temple Garden
2x Stirring Wildwood
4x Sunpetal Grove
4x Field of Ruin
2x Gavony Township
2x Beast Within
2x Settle the Wreckage
2x Damping Sphere
2x Stony Silence
2x Remorseful Cleric
1x Shalai, Voice of Plenty
1x Gideon of the Trials
1x Nissa, Vital Force
Some upgrade options can be:
# The most obvious is adding fetchlands and replacing Llanowar Elves + Avacyn's Pilgrim with Noble Hierarch and Birds of Paradise.
Maybe some number of Horizon Canopy could be also good here in an upgraded manabase.
# More possible haymakers for the 6-mana slot: Elspeth, Sun's Champion, Dragonlord Dromoka, Carnage Tyrant, Wurmcoil Engine
or Armada Wurm (ultra-budget option, good with Resto).
# With the addition of fetchlands creatures like: Knight of the Reliquary + Tireless Tracker (and possibly Ramunap Excavator/Courser of Kruphix)
become very good options and can replace Loxodon Smiter and some copies of Knight of Autumn/Aven Mindcensor/Thalia, Heretic Cathar.
Dec 1, 2018I see that you're playing a completely different version of the deck than I do and it is closer to the "Colorless Eldrazi Stompy" deck.Posted in: Deck Creation (Modern)
I don't think that it is really taking advantage of the Red color with only: Obligator, Magma Jet and Bonfire.
Also, without more ramp (like Mind Stone) I'm not sure how consistently this deck can cast Endbringer on time so I'd consider bringing it from the SB for slower matchups.
I wonder if something like Sin Prodder can work in a version of the deck with Chalice that can protect it from cheap removal.
In a relatively high mana-curve list it can be pretty good especially with Jet setting up the top cards of the deck.
