Why is Mox Opal still at $15-$16 when tempered steel isn't really that good anymore? I mean, maybe its still good, but I never see it at local tournaments and I rarely see it on SCG's top 20 or whatever every weekend.

I have 3 mox opals that I don't really plan on useing anymore in standard. Will it keep the price tag because of extended formats? Simply, I'll keep them if they hold value but if they will drop a lot after rotation I might as well trade them. I just don't understand why they are still high with tempered steel not showing up that much.

    Thanks

There are other formats besides Standard...hence the price.

It's super easy to acquire. He shows up to a bunch of major events for buying/selling; I'm fairly sure when I bought from him if I asked him to sign something he would have.

    Cheers

Agreed. This makes the card worth less to most people...like me. He's not the artist, RG, or a respected alterer. It's just not a relevant sig and basically can be considered as a defacement of the card.

You cannot use it as a general since the card is face up in the command zone, and it's not a creature then. But you can run it in ANY EDH deck since it doesn't have any color identity (no colored mana symbols anywhere on either side of the card).

This is absolutely WRONG. YOU CANNOT USE IT IN ANY COLOR EDH DECK...ONLY DECKS WITH BLACK. Color identity encompasses all colors on all sides of the card. The card is BLACK on one side.

The price of Snapcaster does have me a little confused when compared to SFM, but I suspect I know the reason. SFM at its absolute peak was a card played heavily across two formats (Standard and Legacy). Even that's a bit of an exaggeration, since it didn't really take off in Legacy until just before it was banned in Standard (Stoneblade established itself as a major played in Legacy in May-June '11, about a month after the printing of Mental Misstep). So realistically, SFM at its height was a card driven primarily by Standard play that was going to rotate in three or four months (to say nothing of the banning speculation) and was never considered to be a long-term value card. Snapcaster, on the other hand, is heavily and simultaneously played across three formats (Standard, Modern, Legacy) and is widely considered to be a card that will hold great value in the future.

Don't forget, SFM released at .99 a playset. I bought 12 playsets at that price on ebay.

Snaps released at 25-30. Snap's release price was, in some ways, a direct result of cards like Goyf and SFM.

    Brag Post.

Umm, I just checked ebay completed listings, and ALL of the buy it nows have ended at $20+, and 90%+ of the auctions have ended at $20+ each as well. Only a couple listings actually ended at below $20/card.

The card is still a solid $20 card excluding outliers eithor above or below which shouldnt be taken into consideration when determining the true value of a card.

So while you may not be wrong, that some may have closed as low as around $15 or so, that "some" is about 2 out of 50+ listings that actually sold, or an equivalent thereof.

The point is, Snap is also on a downward trend. When playsets can end under $70, you're looking at a card now that supply is catching up to demand. I agree that Snaps are still $18-20 if you aren't patient. This card has nowhere to go but down.

I dont think any of them go for 1-2, even if it is reprinted wouldnt that possibly mean that it would be the only duals of T2, barring the new sets having duals.

Again, you are comparing them to completely different cards (SOM lands). See M11/M12 duals. $1-2.

If you are newer to the game, then really research the pain lands cycle that the newer standard duals ended up replacing.

Yes I do, and like I said, delver is very "meh" unless you can ensure that he flips the next turn with brainstorm, top, ponder, etc then hope your opponent doesn't respond by killing him after you reveal. I've found him to be very lackluster in limited and decent in standard.

-Tarmogoyf is "meh" if there aren't many types in your graveyard or your opponent kills it.
-Dark Confidant is "meh" if you have a land full of lands and you rip 2 more lands or your opponent kills it.
-Snapcaster Mage is "meh" if you have no instants or sorceries in your graveyard or your opponent counters it.
-Vendilion Clique is "meh" if your opponent has no cards in his hand or you draw him into something better if he does or your opponent kills it.

What I'm trying to say is, that Delver is a great option for blue to get 3/2 flier attacking on turn 2 BECAUSE it has cards like brainstorm, or even just 60+% chance of revealing an instant/sorcery anyway. Additionally, the top Delver decks don't run Top anyway because it isn't even needed.

I really don't see still how you justify your claims as it being a .50 rare being that is, regardless of how "meh" you think it is, becoming a Legacy staple.

EDIT: I just saw your "limited" comment. You really need to understand, before posting on these forums, what drives value.

There's a HIGH chance that these will be reprinted just like their counterparts...and they will end up at $1-2 just like those will.

The SOM lands are completely different.

I always go with some combination (depending on color) of Extirpate, Scavenging Ooze, Tormod's Crypt, Wheel of Sun and Moon, and/or Surgical Extraction. I haven't used Leylines in FOREVER...

i actually don't know about this one. while i would generally take the force, i've been able to trade 2x snapcasters for a FoW before, straight up. maybe i got lucky, but stores like CFB put snappy at like $27 and FoW at like $60, so i can see it being reasonable. that said, 3x snaps are probably worth more than a FoW. but they are easier to find, and will eventually rotate out of standard.

it's a tough one for me, but i would probably take the snaps. if you trade smart, you could probably end up with a force plus more.

You really need to brush up on those values dude. Snaps are closing as low as $14-15 now on ebay. NM Forces remain $50+.

    Take the Force.

I don't think it'd be a money rare, it'll probably be 50 cents to a dollar tops because it is only good when you can cheat the flip through tricks that let you stack the top of your deck. Delver kinda blows when you drop him T1 and he just sits there as a 1/1 for several turns because all you rip are creatures and lands in your 20+ instant/sorcery deck.

    Do you play Legacy?

Delver's FOIL value is due mainly to the fact that it's quickly becoming a Legacy staple.

The real question is it's FOIL value as an uncommon or a rare. If it were uncommon, you're looking at a jump from $4/5-$9/10. If a rare? $20/25.
