Hello and good work
I tested your list at the beginning but I'm not very sold on it (because I tested it against some pet decks I have and it doesn't win consistently), but since the printing of the new vraska I thought that she would be bonkers in this deck and well She has been already suggested
Also I think there are lot of good creatures with deathtouch for your GB list like Gifted aetherborn and vampire nighthawk that will also help you to close the game while survive a lot.
Finally I was thinking if with the new vraska a mono black list would be possible (perhaps including red splash for whip), but I've always wanted to build a succesfuld assassins deck (that by the way usually have deathtouch) and that can exploit tribal assassins shenanigans (Scarblade Elite I'm looking at you ). If I build the list and you are interested I can also share.

Mar 15, 2019Hello everybody,Posted in: Deck Creation (Modern)
As all you know I'm always brewing for new decks and tying to innovate so I usually post here the decks that at least have some success.
For some time I've tried to build a deck using training grounds (yes, another training ground deck) but don't want to do the same things ather people does so I try to build my own path.
Also because I like red a lot I wondered what happens if I try to build a izzet deck that works wonders with grouns and that don't fold if you can't find one. Also because I want to innovate, then no izzet guildmage manamorphose combo is included here.
After lot of testing I've developed a list that is working very very good and that does obscene things with grounds out but works fine also without grounds.
Because the deck can't rely only in training grounds I serched for another plan that fits well here and found that red devotion is perfect for this deck so cards try to fulfill both roles. Because of that I added Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx so I have plenty of mana because Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx or I have a great reduction because grounds (or a festival with both). Because of that I use creatures that benefit from cost reduction and that provides devotion for plan B.
My list right now is:
In the testings this deck performs really good. Also have aouts for lot of situations and side can cover the blanks against other strategies that it can fold to.
Anyways there are some doubts I have so far:
1) Does lightning bolts worthwhile?: It can sound blasphemous but I found lot of situations were I wssihed bolt was another thing. Only 3 damage for a card which costs R is not good enough :P. Seriously, I think another 1 mana drop would be better (preferably creatures). I've tested lot of things (i'll post them later) but didn't found a good replacement to it.
2) The deck would benefit form more card advantage. Light up the Stage is being superb, but Faithless looting is not being good, mostly mediocre, because the deck doesn't benefit from using graveyard at all. I thought on including some demigod of revenge or flamewake phoenix, but don't want to rely on graveyard because all grave-hate you can find and also because they didn't benefit from the main plans and only provide devotion
3) Should I include braid of fire for more fun? It sounds useless most of the time and also slow so I discarded it without testing it but may I be wrong?
4) I'm working on SDB. Right now I think I should play some kind of grave-hate (not sure what), Blood Moons, shattering Spree or by force to wreck affinity and the so and prbably some number of bonfire of the damned.
Later I'll continue writing but all your help is welcome!!
Lot of thanks!!
Mar 5, 2019Still testing the deck with some success. I've played recently against other decks (fmn level, not really tier1 decks), but anyways very satisfied although I still think it can be improved a lot (also being possible to cut some cards). I've faced Naya allies (win 2-1), elves (win 2-0), naya zoo (win 2-0), cremator deck (win 2-1) so as I said happy it the performancePosted in: Deck Creation (Modern)
My actual list is:
I'm very happy but would love any feedback. Please comment!!!
Feb 25, 2019I've been testing this deck in the weekend and I have to say that is one of the funniest decks I've played in a long time.Posted in: Deck Creation (Modern)
Also is competitive enough to compete.
I've changed my list over games to try to find the more suitable form and finally I'm on the following list:
I'm very happy with this list and has lot of synergy and mini-combos between his parts.
I've removed the afterlife creatures because also providing two bodies is something I'm having with my 1CC drops and although black/white creatures are superb, not having anthems (which I also removed because the slow the deck and are not so good) make them less useful. Instead I'm playing hero which give us lot of human tokens that also gave us zombies with necromancer which is bonkers. Also the bloodshoakes give us zombies so there were some games which i finished by beating with an horde of 8-9 angry zombies
Anyways there are some points I would like to improve.
First of all I need a way to deal damage to high priest of penance so I can remove problematic permanents when needed. If opponents attack is a great blocker but I need a way to exploit him. I would need that:
1) would be a permament, preferably a human and preferably multicolored. The options I have right now are murderous redcap and icatian javalineers but both of them are clunky. I would like to stay in colors also. I have blasting station for this right now but not very sold on it yet.
2) I need some replacement to tragic slip. There were some games where I need a cheap removal that exiles also. PTE is an option but I would prefer aa multicolored cheap removal. I'm thinking on unmake but ...
3) I would like to have more WB useful humans but seems that there is no more of them. I'm using pontiff and although it's a great blocker, I would love him being a human
Lot of thanks for your help!!!
Feb 22, 2019Lot of thanks for answering!!! I really would like this deck could go on!!Posted in: Deck Creation (Modern)
Bad moon could be a good option. The problem is that it doesn't pump all the white spirits the deck produce (most of them created with teysa, but also with travler and witness) so this is a bit dissapointing :(. Anyways it pumps main creatures and zombies so I have to test it. Also I'm thinking on including Bloodsoaked champion in the deck because it has synergy with Teysa, Athreos and Necromancer (after attacking we can sac it and create a 2/2 zombie (necromancer), a 1/1 flying spirit (teysa) and even come again from B instead of 1B (Athreos), and we can do it multiple times!!). Also bad moon pumps him so he can be even better. Also if I include champion I would include a single copy of blasting station for more fun!!!
So I'm going to test the following list:
Still have to cut cards. at least 10 of them, but not sure what to cut to still get balance and power.
Any idea is welcome and lot of thanks for reading and posting!!
Feb 21, 2019Hello everybody,Posted in: Deck Creation (Modern)
Since the new mechanic afterlife was spoiled I know I wanted to build a deck around it, so began to brew and built a pile that I'm refining since more than a month.
First of all I'm going to post my list and after that I'll give you the explanation for some choices and ask for help about some doubts I have with the current build. Take into account that although the list have some aristocrats in there, this is not a usual aristocrats deck and I don't want to transform it into one of them. I'm not using blood artist, zulaport cuttrhoat or Judith, scourge diva and don't want to play them here also, so please don't make suggestions about that line or trying to change the direction of the deck. I'm trying to build a deck that makes the removal of the opponent almost useless, swarm the board with difficult to block creatures and win with incremental advantage or alpha-strikes.
With this list I've been capable of win consistently all aggro and tempo decks I've faced and some others too. I've won in my testings: Cremator deck, Caleb shamans, Saffron Wizards, merfolks, naya, monoblack and rakdos,... so happy with it but also have more cards than I wanted to so I also have to cut some of them so I ask for your help here too.
Without more preambles, my list:
Now explanations and card choices:
The goal of the deck is making removal from the opponent useless because all creatures provide some benefit when dying in form of replacing itself or being indestructible/ protected so removal becomes worse and worse (even mass removal).
Because almost all creatures are humans, Xathrid Necromancer becomes a powerhouse because you sac a witness with any aristocrat (cartel or pontiff or teysa) and you gain two tokens (a zombie and a human (or spirit)).
Also all the afterlife creatures are expendable but also having some other nice uses (like enforcer which serves as removal). Also because they create a black and white spirit you can sac the spirit to teysa and gain another white spirit for free so you can see how much value you can get wiht this chains.
Because the aristocrats cards shave some built -in protection and because spirits flies, when you cast any pump permanent the game becomes much easier to close. Because of that Honor of the pure HOTP and Marshal are there.
The deck can be split in four parts:
1) The expendables:
- Hunted witness
- Doomed Traveler
- High priest of penance
- imperious oligarch
- Orzhov Enforcer
- Xathrid Necromancer
2) The Aristocrats (predators)
3) The pumpers
In my testings all cards serves a purpose and they are performing really good but I have to cut 10 cards (at least) from the list so I need your help on this.
Also I think the pumpers can be improved. I'm not very sold in HOTP because don't pump all my creatures (most of them, yes, but necromacers, zombie tokens and enforcers doesn't benefit from it). I've though on intangible virtue but is worse much of the time because only pumps tokens. The marshal does what I want but is a 3 CC card and easily removable (you usually only get a zombie from it) so I need to find a good pumper that is cheap (in CC) and durable. I'm thinking on Sorin, Lord of innistrad because the emblem, but is not cheap (cost 4), so not sure on it.
Also I need to cut cards, but again I'm very happy with most of them so not sure what to cut. The good thing is that once the deck is rolling, is very difficult to stop it. It's also cheap in CC.
Some cards I've tested but didn't worked or underperformed:
The visitation was really slow, and when comes into play you usually have the borard full of tokens but not lot of producers. Same happens with teysa, 4 CC is hard and the effects come too late and not imppressive.
Path is not needed and we don't want to give speed to opponents
Legion's landing usually doesn't flip soon enough to be relevant
Cards That I tested but right now they not work as expected
Champion produces some humans and have an interesting synergy with Xathrid necromancer. Also the deck plays lot of WB creatures, but the problem is that he is easily killable without any benefit and using more monocolored cards make the deck weak (because Teysa need as much WB creatures as you can afford, and you know, teysa, orzhov scion is a powerhouse)
Tithe Taker is monocolored, so has the same problem than above. Because of that I replaced it with imperious oligarch (which doesn't tax but being WB and having vigilance lets you attack and defend on the spot)
Cards I want to test:
Blasting Station: Is a removal and a sac outlet, all in one. Also can combo nicely with High priest of penance
Gravecrawler: The bad thing is that the deck only has the zombies we can make with necromancer, but combos nicely with station (see above). Also the good thing is that gravecrawler + station + teysa + any other zombie = do as much damage as B you can pay and create as many spirits with flying also.
Loyal Cathar: is another expendable creature that provides a zombie if we want to play gravecrawler.
Doomed Dissenter: See above
So I really need your help here. Any suggestion or help is really appreciated.
Lot of thanks!!
- Hunted witness
Dec 22, 2018Still testing the deck and changed my last list a few because hidden herbalists are not that good. I'm happy with wild cantors and burning-tree Emissary btw but herbalists are way situational.Posted in: Deck Creation (Modern)
I have to say that if you get a puresight aout with a rite out is very very imppressive but if you have also a vizier you can play all your deck most of the times. I'm also thinking on including another sammut, voice of dissent because you need to find him to play your whole deck and sometimes finding him is difficult (if it is the last card in your deck i.e.)
Any ideas and suggestions are welcome!!
Dec 20, 2018Hello everybody,Posted in: Deck Creation (Modern)
While testing my other decks (mostly the cryptolith rite combo) I realized that I would like to play one of my pet decks that was funny and simple. It was the wolf/werewolf deck I had. Also because I was testing training grounds in other pet deck I realized that it would be great in my werewolf deck because lot of the puppies have nice activated abilities that are great with cost reduction. So I put the playset on the deck and begin to test. I have to say that I'm very impressed with the results. It can win lot of decks (even more complex ones) and have almost everything you need in it.
Some of the cards at first sight can seem clunky or even horrible but with the deck they are really good!!
So after explaining my list and interactions, here you are the list I'm testing now:
So now the explanations.
The deck can work fine without grounds acting like an aggro werewolf deck but becomes absurd when you have a training ground out:
training ground + Duskwatch Recruiter : Reads G: draw a creature card
training ground + Chameleon Colossus: For GG double stats of colossus. If you have any lord out it will have trample and can win with a single attack.
training ground + Kessig Prowler: For 2G or G have a 4/4 menace guy
training ground + Wolfbitten captive or Darkthicket wolf : For G you have a overpowered creature that make opponent to have to take decissions and usually a favorable combat for you
Also you have all support from werewolves (lords(mayor,Howlpack Resurgence, Full Moon's Rise ), fog effects (moonmist) and nice removal (Moonlight Hunt, tracker).
There are lot of more synergies in there but in my testings this deck is working really good so I'm continuing playing it to see what it can do against lot of other decks.
Also because it has blue, you can use some disruption in sideboard (I'm playing some counters (mana leak and the so), tron hate (spreading seas) and some other resilient threats (silverfur partisan and wolfir avenger)).
So right now, as I've said, i'm very happy with this list. Anyways, as always, I post here my list so you can test and also, as always, any advice or suggestion is really welcome
Dec 14, 2018Hello everybody,Posted in: Deck Creation (Modern)
I've been testing the last list with lot of fast mana creatures and I like it a lot , although sometimes you find hands like: BTE,BTE, HErbalist and nothing to chain after so you finish with 3 2/2 in the 2nd turn which is not imppresive at all. If you have any rite in hand then is better but not game winning also because you need something to spend your mana into.
Also this list requires at least 8 fetches (and although I don't have budget issues, it could be a problem for somebody).
It would be great if we can use the famished paladin also as an infinite mana engine with any rite but then you need any sister in play to be able to untap it for each creature you cast. This have another problem that is that white sisters doesn't work well with BTE and Herbalists and green ones (essence warden and leyline of vitality) are dead draws in middle game and usually not enough.
I also think on other bizzarre things like panglacial wurm (but you need a rite and lot of dudes to cast it) but the phylosophy would be exactly that, a mana sink in which I can spend mana in any stage of the game and that were relevant for the game. Also I though on including throne of the god-pharaoh which let me tap my creatures for mana and kill the opponent and can serve as an acceptable end chain of BTE's and Herbalists
I also tried a merfolk version (that not worked very good) and also I'm thinking if would be possible to make a white list instead of green (because white dudes are more disruptive) but always come back to the green list.
Problems I have now that I want to solve:
1) Need more removal. And also in form of creature
2) Need a way to deal with tron and combo. Gaddock teeg is an option but more answers would be neccessary.
2) Need good end chain cards to complement the BTE,herbalists chains
3) What to cut to make room for those cards.
- Other options I'm considering:
- Crown of convergence
- Curse of stalked prey
- Durable Handicraft
- Fauna Shaman
- Greenwheel Liberator
- Talara battalion
- Gyre Sage
- Heart of Kiran
- Smuggler's Copter
- impact tremors
- Jade Mage
- Leonin sun standard
- Luupine Prototype
- sigil of valor
- Sorcerous Spyglass
- storm entity
- throne of the god-pharaoh
please help, any advice is welcome
- Other options I'm considering:
Dec 10, 2018Hello everybody!!Posted in: Deck Creation (Modern)
Still playing the list I posted last time and it's working really good, in fact, better than expected. Also the puresight merrow are being awesome letting me combo from nothing (thanks to vizier also).
I'm winning lot of games by putting all my creatures of the deck into play with haste thanks to samut or with an infinite horde of soldiers (thanks to samut and signaler). I'm even sure that puresight is being by far even better than signaler, letting me search for any creature anytime (a pity I can't play them with flash (yeva, nature's herald could be an option but is a cute 4 CC cost so no right now).
Anyways I've been testing the deck and played against more variety of decks:
- Death life
- Ad Nauseam
And much more.
I've to say that decks that play their game and are faster than me are tought but against any deck that play a game I've having satisfactory results.
My issues come from TRON (which I don't have anything to stop them beside stony silence and gaddock teeg (that usually is destroyed with oblivion stone)), Ad Nauseam (that usually gets a fast kill) and some other kind of combos. That make think about even using meddling mage or any other creature suit to disrupt them.
Against the other decks I mentioned I've been able to get lot of wins so right now I'm hhapy with my list (although still is not finished and I should cut 4 cards at least from it). But anyways is hilarious to beat with an army of dudes and having 1 card in your library
Can you help me to find a creature disruptive package against tron and other combo unfair decks? I think humans play lot of them but I need more green creatures than white or black so ....
Also I'm thinking that if I find a reliable way of gettin revolt then hidden herbalists would be awesome in the deck also. It would give more speed so beside of fetchlands should I play creatures like wild cantor to be able to get revolt when needed?
there are not lot of green ones but I will gain things like:
- bomat courier
- burrenton Forge-tender (MD prot for burn and the so)
- Children of korlis (prot for some combos)
- Dauntless Bodyguard
- Hope of ghirapur (one turn prot)
- Kami of false hope (fog effect)
- Portcullis Vine
- remorseful cleric
- sakura-tribe elder
- saffi Eriksdotter
Some of them are pretty meh, but could serve as protection. We can even play greenbelt rampager again ??
lot of thanks in advance for your help
EDIT: Here is the new List I'm going to test:
I'm afraid of having so less removal (only 2 warden) but with this iteration the deck seems to be very explosive.
Also thinking if including Rhonas's Monument and greenbelt rampager would worthwhile. Also perhaps a reckless Bushwhacker could have a slot here
- bomat courier
Dec 7, 2018Hello,Posted in: Deck Creation (Modern)
Lot of thanks for your suggestions!!!
For previous lists I have to test beast whisperer and perhaps include also the combo of devoted druid + vizier of remedies, but I think this would be another variant of devoted vizier combo that doesn't benefit from rites at all.
I also thought about renegade rallier but when I tested It I realized that he was not useful most of the time. In fact, sometimes I casted it only for having other dude on the board so right now I don't consider to go back with him.
If oath of nissa would be a creature it has would be great, but as it is I can't think on using it in the list.
I'm very impressed with my last list. It has lot of synergies and combos included so right now I think is the way to go.
Decklist has plenty of creatures so the aggro plan is very viable agaiinst decks full of removal.
Also there are some new notable synergies:
Any rite + puresight merrow : repeatable demonic consultations without losing first six cards and at will. This plus vizier make me able to play all the creatures in my deck at will exiling redundant rites. Also let me search for a creature answer to almost anything. In sideboard I'm using knight of autumn and remorseful cleric to be searched if needed. Also I have lot of more creature silver bullets in SDB although I have to choose among them because there are so many.
BTE + Myr superion: Obvious synergy of 7 power (or more) on the board in turn 2
2 BTE+ Purphoros: make the god a creature and let you attack with it also
Permeating mass + fairgrounds warden: If opponent has any creature transformed in mass and you block with warden then he is going to lose the exiled creature because warden transforms into mass and lose the return creature clause. Mass is usually killed with a removal spell because people don't like to have their goifs transformed into masses, so a removal less for your good dudes.
My SDB right now is something like:
- 1 Kataki, war's wage
- 1 remorseful cleric
- 2 knight of Autumn
- 1 burrengton-forge tender
- 1 Voice of Resurgence
- 1 Gaddock Teeg
- 1 Essence Warden
- 3 Path To Exile
- 2 Rest In Peace
- 2 Stony Silence
Although I'm sure it can be improved a lot!!!
Right now, my last list, as I said is the way I'm going to go because it's really fun and can win a lot. My last games are being against some tier 2 or bizzarre decks (Cremator deck, Allies deck, Merfolks, Spirits, dredge and Rock) but anyways I'm winning, and more important, I'm having lot of fun. I'm sure I would have to change my SDB to face TRON, probably Burn and Ad Nauseam but I have to test my deck against those ones to know how it performs against them.
As always any advice or suggestion is very appreciated!!
- 1 Kataki, war's wage
Dec 6, 2018Hello Everybody.Posted in: Deck Creation (Modern)
Finally found a list I'm confortable with and that wins a lot. My actual list is:
The new additions are working really good.
With the new combo vizier of menagerie + any rite + Puresight Merrow you can play all your deck, selecting what to play and exiling useless cards, and mostly of the time attacking with haste for lethal (only need to find a samut, voice of dissent ).
I've been testing the deck against some other decks that before were like 50-50 and the deck now wins almost every game (there are only problems when the opposite deck is full of removal) so in those cases we can't rely on comboing and probably the best way is trying to outrace them.
Also myr superion and burning-tree Emissary are great additions.
Finally added removal in form of creatures so they help your combo while help you disrupting the opponent. Fairgrounds Warden is nice and the three thoughness is really good. For the same reason I added permeating mass as the second one drop of choice. they are not that great but passable and can deal with any creature the opponent puts in front of them (indestructible, ....).
I'm testing this list a lot right now, but for the moment very happy with it
As always any advice or suggestion is welcome
Dec 4, 2018Last list I'm playing:Posted in: Deck Creation (Modern)
It's working really good right now. Vizier is working good...
Dec 4, 2018Hi all,Posted in: Deck Creation (Modern)
I've been testing both lists and although both are consistent and win lot of games, I'm not very sold on any of them. Both are funny, both works but I'm looking for something that crushes the metagame and win always (yes, a dream....).
I tested yesterday a list with scute mob + harvest season but this plan dilutes a lot the deck gameplan because you are going to draw lot of dead cards sometimes (although in one game I had a 33/33 scute mob which was hilarious )
Anyways I'm wondering if a list with cards that return the mana you spend on them would worthwhile. I was thinking on:
But probably there are more (help is very appreciatted here), so with the best of them we can build the 2CMC curve of the deck in order to being able to ramp.
Those + any rite (cryptolith Rite or Song of Freyalise) will produce more mana to continue chaining the creatures. Also if we increase the number of Vizier of the menagerie then we can do something like if we were playing a green experimental frenzy.
Those + Nettle sentinel will let you do some crazy plays. If we include a Samut, Voice of Dissent in the equation then we can play all our library on the spot
One of the problems I'm facing is that if opponent kills our first turn creature (meaning nettle Sentinel) the deck become slow because we spend our second turn in playing the rite. That could be solved with emmisary and wall).
Also I'm still thinking which are the best one drops we can play. Which ones do you think are the best?
The synergy between patrol signaler + any rite is absurd so I think they should be kept in the deck. Beside of that I'm still trying to broke it so any help is very appreciated!!!!
