For example, they keep to reprint Tarmo in mythic rarity. Clearly that doesn't help to decrease the price barrier.
Could it be possible that Wizards doesn't try to fix that price problem because if all cards were cheap, everyone would have the same decks? The format would be less diverse. -

I enjoyed reading your big article. It is exactly what I feel today about Magic and you put a name on it : Magic is now more a battlefield for speculators, investors, and fraudsters, than players. I am on the verge to stop playing after 17 long years because of this new fact. Fortunately, EDH still have its grip on me. But I quitted the competition field. - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.
I have an example among others for a counterargument: Every competitive black list plays Ad Nauseam, and we know how it's overpowered. And still unbanned.
My meta isn't that much competitive so I can manage to win after a long delay. I prefer interactions over fast combo.
You may find good Tier 1 competitive lists (often with a primer) in the description section of this thread:
[List - Multiplayer] EDH Generals by Tier (on TappedOut.net)
On page 42 of this topic you may find several decklists of different strategies. But they are outdated.
I also compiled the most useful information about the Engine List: http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/primer-edh-sharuum-engine-jostin-version
Of course this list is completely outdated, but the information provided will help you understand the strategies and mechanics behind the Engine List.
As others have said it before me: Engine Sharuum isn't for competitive EDH (cEDH), and is a rather expensive deck for other meta.
Even myself I abandoned Sharuum in favor of Breya.
I know you can reccur them with glissa but you must recast them afterwards. I feel having access to green grants better ramp options.
Same with Worldgorger Dragon + Animate Dead: Infinite mana --> infinite Breya
Me too, and Breya, Etherium Shaper loves Salvaging Station.
And she comboes at infinite rank with Eldrazi Displacer/Nim Deathmantle + Ashnod's Altar/KCI. (Infinite mana, life, -4/-4 and damage.)
A cheaper and more reliable combo than our classic Sculpting Steel + Altar of the Brood
Not to mention she also has an active removal option against other competitive generals like Zur, Brago, Yisan, Leovold, etc..
Her thopters may also be used as chumpblockers or food for our planeswalkers (Daretti?).
But the mana-base for such 4-colors deck will be difficult to built. Space for utility lands will be scarce.
Hey, for Mesmerum lists (Mesmeric Orb + Basalt Monolith): What about slotting Past in Flames / Recoup / Scrap Mastery ?
Kaolbrec is right. You can't.
Panharmonicon is a replacement effect, so both triggers are put onto the stack at the same time.
And when you put something onto the stack, you must choose a target for every word "target" in that spell or ability before you get back priority.
The difference with Sculpting Steel copying Sharuum, is that the legend rule applies. That rule is a state-based action and is checked every time a player would receive priority. That means it is checked before the trigger of Sharuum-copy is put onto the stack, and thus before you choose a target to reanimate. When you will choose your target, Sculpting Steel is already in the graveyard.
Ow! Nice catch with Orzhov Charm and Torrential Gearhulk
Could Makeshift Mannequin make it with Marionette Master ?
I disagree. It is not bad deckbuilding to play All Is Dust. This is a very powerful boardwipe almost one-sided. The card has its place in Tier 2 decks.
I agree with the fact that if you want to play Tier 1 competitive EDH, you need Ad Nauseam, and thus All Is Dust seems dangerous to play into your deck. But not everybody want to play fast-combos that kill in 1 or 3 turns. Myself I like longer games, thus I still play the Engine Sharuum. And All Is Dust is an All-star here.
To support this change, I added to the deck more artifacts or creatures with ETB effects: Spine of Ish Sah, Noxious Gearhulk, Solemn Simulacrum, etc..
And I use 4 blinkers now: Voyager Staff, Tawnos's Coffin, Venser, the Sojourner, and Master Transmuter.
What do you think of Marionette Master ?
This creature seems powerful with Krark-Clan Ironworks and Cranial Plating
I am doubtful with Panharmonicon: only 8 creatures in your list can take advantage of it, far less than your Strionic Resonator.
Filigree Familiar seems a bit weak to me. I would prefer Commander's Sphere over it.
What do you think about it? The first three (Marvel, Demon, & Architect) seem very good, but I am afraid that Energy production is too diluted into a 99-cards deck.
