Is no one running a list without BB? I'm working on a list utilizing bounce effects to out-value and Aether Vial to free up mana for flash plays and removal. Also I've found Thassa to be sneaky tech in this deck, filtering draws and beating down. It's one drawback( squishy to path and exile effects) is mitigated by the devotion mechanism. Bouncing a faerie when your devotion is at 5 to fizzle a path seems sweet with the upside of repeated CIP triggers. Will post a list this evening for feedback.

I'd like to see your list. I was playing around with vial recently and really enjoyed it. Had decent finishes in MTGO comp leagues. Sower of Temptation at instant speed was juicy. Especially with quickling to bounce and re-vial out. I was still maindecking 3-4 BB though because it's a win-con.

I was on discard faeries for many years. I don't fault anyone for playing it over the version I posted in my video. I think the most important thing we can acknowledge as a faeries community is that the deck is a lot more flexible and able to adapt to the tastes and the love of the pilots than most other decks on here which are largely solved. I know many people that play faeries with discard or without, or that play no snaps or play 4 or play no mistbinds or play 4 or play no scions or play 4 or play no serums or 4 and it's pretty safe to say that neither are right or wrong. As for the removal that belongs in the SB, it's mostly just a matter of guessing what you'll play against. Smother could have been anything

^^Agreed with all the flexibility, I'm constantly bouncing between all those different choices you mention. (and I think he just means, Push replaced Smother 100% so there's no point running Smother ever again.)

I've done 2 GA and it's a big difference from 3 when you want one early, but swap for a Kalitas is probably not going to hurt. I like that GA is just always useful/good while Kalitas may not be out early enough to make an impact. I'd rather do -1 GA for +1 Tasigur if looking for a bigger hitter.

Ym1r - Of course I can just say this to you on discord lol, but glad my list is performing well. I went back to using it on MTGO and I still like it as well. I swapped my 1 mana leak for 1 logic knot and think I like that change as I'm not running any other delve cards. I also did the -1 dismember for +1 GFTT and like that change.

-1 island for +1 watery grave was my initial thought after the GP as well, but I tried it and didn't like it as much. Are you using the 1 of River? It does need a minor tweak towards black, but I'm not sure the right change yet.

I also added SoLaS to my side and have been happy there. It's won me some games.

I'll posted my updated list later. I ran it for 2 full leagues on my latest video on twitch if interested.
Yeah but not everyone is one discord Kekeke

I think there is already a lot of tension in the 2 mana slot mana consistency and logic knot might be a bit awkward. I was thinking of that change as well but I am hesitant to do it exactly because of the double blue.

I am playing the 1x River and I like it quite a bit. It requires a lot of thought to play with it but it can be quite rewarding. Maybe instead of the extra watery grave a 2nd River would be right, but I am not sure. I was also thinking of a Drowned Catacomb but then again, we don't have that many swamp/islands.

Gonna catch up on the videos later!

I tried -1 island for +1 river. NOPE. Too few cards to fetch. Even 3/1/1 is often too few to fetch especially when you start getting path'd and GQ'd. So, I dunno, I think it's optimal... the Oboro could be swapped maybe... but I actually used it today to bounce and Push. Funny, people have tried destroying it and I just bounce it lol...

Sunken Ruins can be iffy as colorless early, but that filter land has saved me many times getting triple blue or double black.

I can't think of any land changes I'd want to implement... Pendel would be nice, but not in such a heavy double black world.

Probably 2 island, 1 swamp, 2 grave is ok OR keep the 3/1/1

@Nardraug Do you have an updated list for us? Smile thanks!

Currently testing bridge in the side for eldrazi as the main focus, but can work in other match ups.

The 2nd league I did on this stream would have been 5-0 if not for my scrubness. Punted a game vs burn by misplaying. Sorry I couldn't get there! Some hard matches on there, though.

I actually cut a Mutavault, so I have 6 colorless lands. It works fine since most of the time if I'm going aggro with lands, I'd rather be attacking with Creepy Tara Pit anyways.

Most of the time it depends on the game for Snapcaster. If you have Bitterblossom against a deck that's bad at removing it, you can hold them. Against tron or scapeshift, I'll throw it down everytime. It's important to just use your spells and stop trying to create blowouts.

I tried Gifted Aetherborn for one tournament and didn't like it. I had to warp the mana too much and the payoff didn't feel worth it. It makes Reality Smasher a lot easier to deal with, but the cost felt too steep for such a small payoff. If it could attack past Kitchen Finks I'd be much more interested, but for now Kalitas does the lifegain job well and happens to be an Allstar against creature midrange decks.

The faeries package is strong against combo and control. The control elements are strong against midrange and aggro. Use them accordingly. I lose a lot of game 1s.

I guess the list I have been running was designed to get Lili out so I didn't need to alter my manabase much for GA (gifted aetherborn). I'm currently not running him tho, so I dunno what that says about me lol. I ran 3 at vancouver GP and they were great tho for early pressure, late come back, and it's a vampire that kalitas can eat if need be. Had that threat online when swinging in.

I think I've never liked playing the hard control version of faeries, always favoring a way to start being a little aggressive. Whether that's with GA, Scions, swords, I tend to like getting something out and then letting that carry me to the win. Which is why I've been trying so many planeswalker too. I ran Ashiok for a while (with Lili even) and both of them di superb work. Ashiok ending games vs control with her ult, stealing me reality smashers or yes, even a griselbrand. Lili has to be built around tho, I rediscovered tonight that she's not good in a heavier control list. She needs to get out and do work, but you need to be early game and have some presence.

I am actually trying aether vial because I don't want to leave any stones unturned. It's been great actually. I have 4-1d some comp leagues with it so far as I keep tweaking the list. Vial on 4 is money with mistbinds, sowers, archmages, kalitas plus having 4 mana open to sss or cryptic.

I've had some blow out plays with vial, sower, quickling, and I know you shouldn't place too much weight on extreme situations, but I always get great value with sower on my opps turn. Even stealing manlands. And there's other fun faeries when you're not looking at only flash faeries. And then sideboard full of creatures with effects like Vampire Hexmage to kill PWs and such, Fulm Mages, Minister of Pain...

Anyways, keep us up to date on your trials/testing/findings, Anthony. We have a discord server up with faerie players if you wanted to have a place for quick feedback/interaction.

I'm pretty new to the deck, have any of you tried JVP before? If so, how was he?

I've tried JVP, he was meh... I liked his looting more than his flip side.

Right, I was on 2 swords main for a while (and even a batterskull main for a short time). But SoFaF became my fav and I moved SoLaS to side mostly because of lingering souls... that card and liliana last hope are like doomsday for us.

How often do you just throw out a snapcaster on T2 for the beats? Or do you try to hold for flash/blocks and the flashback value?

I like your list, feel like LotV would fit in nicely as a 2-of in that control list. 6 discard, 6 removal, 3 early counters, 4 CC.

3 GQ is huge, how's 7 colorless lands feel?

Have you tried Gifted Aetherborn, yet? I think he's at least worth sideboard slot, but I found I brought in more than 50% of the time so mained 2-3.

No more SoFaF Anthony? Why the switch to SoLaS only?

Had a decent run tonight (2/24/17) My dumb stream cut out twice, so it's in 3 videos. But I ran my list and went 4-1 in the comp league. So, just in case anyone doesn't know, I stream on MTGO now when I can.

How have you liked liliana being in the deck? I haven't been a fan of using veil + Cryptic.

Well, you clearly never bounced a Batterskull and pressed the discard button Liliana in the same turn Wink .

I really love Lili. I was on the fence for a long time. I tried LLH, Ashiok, LotV, Sorin, but mostly I ran none of those. Finally I landed at 2 Lili and she's staying. She did really good things for me at the GP and performs well in the MTGO comp leagues. It's a little different play style. You gotta learn to be ok chucking good cards and ok not using her a turn if you need.

But she kills creatures, eats cards, ults for a win. But she also forces your opponent to play differently. If they are in top deck mode they will just have to jam out anything they draw instead of hold for a good time.

I often read somewhere, that Faeries could be at least Tier 2 if and only if more people would work on decklists together. We got at least three different types in our thread ("Classic Fae", "Copter Fae" and "Aetherborn Fae"(w(/o) Kalitas). If only some work together is needed, I would want to start this now:

First of all I guess we all should list the greatest Problems we face playing different kind of decks. I haven't played a tournament since I started playing again, so I can't really add much to this discussion (played some games on cockatrice, but that was against Tier 3 only and I don't think you'll face many of those decks in a real tournament) and would like to skip this part for now.

So it would be appreciated if you all could list what makes games hard for you playing different decks, and maybe what cards you really like in those matches.

That's a pretty controversial topic lol. Some people really like to play draw-go style, some like to get in there quick... so, maybe one is better than the other, but people's play style preference will always dictate which version they play. For instance, grixis control is probably overall a stronger deck than faeries, but I like playing faeries. So, playing the strongest deck isn't why we all came to fae.

I am getting close to my ideal list though... I have bounced between 20 different lists in the last couple months alone, but I'm really close... if I can start getting some 5-0s in comp league.. I'll know I'm there.

I could see cutting snaps. I've had good luck with snap-less decks. I do have 18 targets that are all decent for snapping back and 2 snaps seems to be a good balance for me.

I have not tried 4 SV yet. It makes me nervous because I don't really want them in my first couple turns (even tho, in a bind, they can end up fixing me up), but ideally, I'm casting discard/removal/counters/BB on T1-2 and not SV. SV is my last priority card to cast.

Hopefully next week I'll have time to take my list back to the competitive leagues on MTGO and see how it goes for me.

Mirris: I have ran Tasigur main before and Kalitas main before. Both can be good options (I do like Kalitas more). But the reason I'm not mainboarding one or two is because Gifted Aetherborn. I don't need Kalitas lifelink over GAs. So Kalitas is more of a side option for when I need the exile effect. I used to main batterskull for my lifelink and that was nice too (I'd prefer that to Kalitas main).

As far as adding something else main, I can see going to 2 GA to add a SoLaS or another removal or Lili or Kalitas. And I could maybe see losing 1 IoK to add another removal or counter. Other than that, the list is super tight and I wouldn't want to go down on anything. (I can see a case for moving dismember for GFTT or other removal options, but that's a lateral change).
