You don't insert a problematic deck to (try and) fix a problem in a format.

    From Wizard's Past Events:

    GP Vancouver (Feb 22nd, 2015): Day 2 18.49% (22 Players), 1 in the Top 8.
    GP Charlotte (June 14th, 2015): Day 2 18% (56 Players), 2 in the Top 8.
    GP Copenhagen (June 21st, 2015): Day 2 15.8% (25 Players), 1 in the Top 8.
    GP Singapore (June 28th, 2015): Day 2 11.86% (14 Players), 1 in the top 8, 5 in the top 32.
    GP Oklahoma (September 13th, 2015): Day 2 9% (15 Players), 1 in the top 8, 2 in the top 32.
    GP Porto Alegre (November 1st, 2015): Day 2 9.52% (10 Players), 1 in the top 8, 1 in the top 16.
    GP Pittsburgh (November 22nd, 2015): Day 2 12.1% (37 Players), 3 in the top 8, 2 in the top 32.

Included the number of players for the conversion rates which CBA to do atm :p

That's all I've found, I might've missed one. As you can see Twin has been at those heights of day 2 metagame percentage (and higher) in all but 2 GP's.

EDIT: The system ****s up my formatting Frown

Twitch chat has been rife with soundbites like "Ban Looting", "Ban Stirrings", "Ban Opal", while ignoring that those cards aren't the best targets if you are to nerf KCI. Also, Noble or Vial decks have the same total representation as them in that day 2 breakdown

Aaaaand Jeff Hoogland blocked me from Twitter because I presented KTK's numbers on his ***** post. Damn, that man has a thin skin.
He made a comment about meta share and you (I believe) pointed out % of Top 8s, which had nothing to do with his comment or the original pie graph image.

He used this 1 event's metagame to make a dig at the WHOLE year's -average- Twin %, implying that Twin never got that high in day 2's. I just pointed out that he used 1 event versus a whole year and taht Twin's top 8 % was also an issue.

And if you cut Mox Opal you kill -not maim- Affinity, Tezzeret decks, Lantern, the Grixis prison deck and just slow down KCI. Nuke 4-5 inoffensive decks, so you can slow down 1, which its offensiveness is still debatable.

    Also, Artifact lands with KCI?

Personal experience with playing Miracles and UWx Midrange for a long time. Also, MTGGoldfish, SCG and the various FB groups for either UWx Control or UWx Midrange.

The fact that NOW it isn't being played as much is based solely on the rise in GDS, drop in Bogles, Dredge now having Chill and in general non-blue go wide strategies. It's at least on par with Verdict as a sweeper and oftentimes it's far better because of recursive threats.

Settle perfectly compliments the play-style of UW control. As FoodChain said, yes they're slow now and that's why there's UW control isn't as strong as it was, but the typical wrath suite of it in the main is 4x Terminus, 1x Verdict, 1x Settle and usually another sweeper of your choice in the SB.

I've been playing UR Phoenix since the release of the bird and the only sweepers I've ever feared from UW Control were Terminus (Duh) and Settle. Verdict is a speedbumb, the other two are backbreaking.

Saying Settle sees little to no play (or less than verdict) in modern is absurd and suggests a lack of knowledge for the archetype(s) that play it.

Each and every deck that can play both typically plays +1 Settle over Verdict, usually a 2-1 split in favor of Settle. It's the 2nd best 4cmc sweeper after verdict (and arguably the best in Mdern). Hell, I even put 2 in a Boros midrange jank brew that I played a few times over Wrath of God.

    It's just THAT good.

Cut the Field of Ruins, they're too slow for the deck and it's messing up your manabase color balance.

And if anything, the Boros Charms should be in the main.

In my Delver decks I'm playing 18-19 lands with 4 Fastlands (2 Spirebluff, 1 Seachrome, 1 Vantage), 4 Shocklands (2 Steam Vents, 1 Hallowed, 1 Sacred) 3 Basics (2 Islands, 1 Plains, or 1 of each (depending on the amount of field of ruins I'm expecting) and 6-7 fetch lands. I'm personally playing Blood Moons in the sideboard, but this configuration has served me well.

Also no Izzet Staticaster against Fairies? It wrecks most of their creatures.

Yeah, the gearhulks are of the Cataclysmic variety.

I think the synergy with restos, far outweighs the awkwardness of "legendary". It's the list I'm going to play Stoneforge in if she (ever) gets unbanned.

I think it'll be the best shell for her instead of Esper or Abzan, but that's a dream. :p

From what I saw (and I ran into the same guy twice, 1-2 defeats both times).

Wall of Omens Snaps, Path, Resto, with a top end of Lyra Dawnbringer and the usual early game counters and Cryptic. No Terminus, but they did have Verdict.

You know what? I saw a deck very similar to that at FNM 2 weeks ago. The guy usually brings his own decks or own brew on Jeskai, UW, or CoCo Tax type decks, but maybe there is something recently. Did a list 5-0 or something? I know there's tons of people that always go over 5-0 lists.

The guy I played had Kitchen Finks. I lost game 1 due to overextending into double Supreme Verdict and my 2 Clues drawing me more lands to go with my draw step lands. But I played a bit more carefully, not assuming that Clues + draw steps = non lands and won the next 2 fairly easily. Slowly, but easily.

*I wanted to bring something up as well...something waaay off topic. He sided in Geist of Saint Traft vs. my endless supply of creatures deck. Does that seem right? Cards like Geist of Saint Traft and forgive me for adding it, Goblin Rabblemaster seem much better against something like Control, Tron, creature light Combo, and creature light decks in general. Obviously Rabblemaster is worse against a plethora of removal. But I've seen players occasionally side in Geist vs. my creature heavy deck or Rabblemaster vs. my removal heavy deck, including 4 Bolt. Am I missing something? I don't notice mistakes this large in my opinion. Or am I just wrong?

Sorry for going so far off topic. Laugh

And lastly if you would play against a UW Control deck right now with your deck there is a good chance you lose. Where does that leave the statement "Linear = always better"?
There are ton of linear decks out there that are straight up worse then Control right now so let's not act like Control is some unplayable Tier 3 jank. That it certainly isn't. Because if it would be so then everyone should have no problem crushing it 2-0 every single time you face it and we know that that doesn't happen Wink

For what its worth, I faced a UW Midrange deck yesterday that just stomped my face in. Once we get into Cryptic territory, the advantage bar shifts in a big way.

Really? What did it play? Geist of Saint Trafts and Restoration Angels?

Gonna put the quote in spoilers since it's pretty long. It's been a deck that has been played a bit and has posted several 5-0's the past months, mainly by Curryvore who has championed the deck online, and it plays 16ish creatures (4 walls, 3-4 snaps, 4 restos, 1-2 Cliques, 3ish Finks and some top end in Lyra or Avacyn) and Cryptics, paths etc. It uses the same manabase as the Miracles one. I've played it, but not as much as I'd like (I championed Phoenix deck since their inception and I've been crushing my FNMs with them). It's advantage is that it has almost a 50-50 matchup against most of the field and wrecks GDS, GBx decks and some slower aggro decks, I'd say it also has a positive matchup against phoenix and dredge but I'm not that experienced. It also has a HUGE following on facebook where most of the brainstorming and reports are done. I can give you the links if you're interested.

So long as it's in print it won't be over 10-15$. Look at Trophy, which is played much more. Also, this one is far more brutal in Legacy and Vintage, I'll definitely try it, but I was thinking more along the lines a UW Midrange shell than a delver shell.

Sorry if I’m way off here: from what I understand, since thus far no commentator has really been able to explain the combo - which is its own problem imo - the KCI combo is due to a very specific rules interaction. If R&D changed the rule around that interaction, would this solve the problem? Does that interaction matter in any other deck or format?

KCI's sac effect is a mana ability so it doesn't use the stack, therefore allowing you to bypass the abilities of Trawlers and Retrievers entering the stack. While changing it to an activated ability will nerf the deck, it'll open another can of worms where each land tap is an activated ability and will probably lead to some even weirder game lines.

As for the general "Battle of the Sideboards" mentality, this time it isn't JUST dredge that's (ab)using the GY. It's Dredge. It's Phoenix decks, It's Hollow One. It's Death's Shadow. It's KCI. It's Storm. You're designing your sideboard wrong if you don't respect your opponents' (and yours for that matter) graveyard.

([...] Can anyone come up with a cool name for the deck? Dark Jeskai Delver?)

    Dark Delver?

Also, I'd try it if I didn't have to fork over for the foil Kommands :p

I've been playing a phoenix/kiln fiend/swiftspear amalgam for the past few weeks that's been going pretty well, so sorry for not coming up with many helpful write ups :p

    On the spirits match-up:

Depending on your draw, leverage your removals and go for a "protect the queen" style of play. Since they're UW they'll probably have Rattlechains, so beware. Mantis/Aurelia is an awesome way to leverage your removals, Vapor Snags (if you're playing them can be pretty good as well). Also, since they're lacking companies they can't easily put 2 spirits on the board.

As for sideboard, Wrath of God is bad in the deck (imo; 4 mana wraths are not where you want to be), but angers, staticasters, abrades and Explosives are epic.

Vials are a concern for the blowouts on removals, etc or flash blockers, if you play with them in mind you won't have many problems. Also, I used to play a couple of Chart a Course for card advantage and refueling, so you could consider these.
