Some new young teen non working age player scraps together the 16 bucks to pop for a pack at a box store with visions of Bitterblossoms and Lilianas dancing in their heads proceeds to open two chaff 25 cent rares and a worthless foil common. And gives up on the game forever.
How does this help get new players WotC?
i mean, this set isn't really designed with new players in mind, and that's a-okay.
its very clearly designed with edh players in mind, yet put at an exorbitant price so it just caters to whales.
edit: yeah yeah, you'll all say but its for legacy and modern players too! except outside of edh who the **** is playing muldrotha, mizzix, animatou, lord of extinction... you can't include chaff like that and then say you aren't trying to appeal to the edh crowd too. i hated the first time they pulled this *****, and i hate it even more the second time.
because this is what we want to see in the mythic slot here?
i wonder how much crap needs to appear in this set before people get aggravated at opening trash and stop buying into this model
This model they use is beyond tiresome isn't it? All the value in the mythic slot, gamble gamble gamble. It obviously works but I find myself wanting and buying LESS product all the time with this model of rarity gambling.
same. i've switched heavily to singles and as a result i buy even less than i did previously. its just harder and harder not to view it as gambling every single set. keep pushing value into alt arts and mythics - and even then its a gamble on a gamble because half the mythics/alt arts in any given set tend to also not be value. use to pick up rando packs at targets and walmarts sometimes, but i stopped doing that even. it also effects draft, when you pay your 16 bucks knowing you aren't going to get anywhere near that back, even if you win... you kind of just stop drafting. drafting this will be even more expensive and not necessarily worth it.
nice. i hope this brings it down to an affordable level, but since i've gotten away with not running it since it first got printed it doesn't really matter.
still, i'll pick up a couple if they tank in price.
sucks sour ass that muldrotha eats up yet another mythic slot. now with 3 versions to ensure she'll never be worth more than a dollar again.
altar, orrery, and ulamog are of course great choices.
i'm actually not a big fan of the alt art on the altar. it looks too much like he painted half of it and then just duplicated the other side in photoshop or whatever, the perspective feels wonky. then again, even as far back as homelands i really haven't liked much of his art. great world builder though.
really like the imperial seal reprint. maybe i can finally afford one. (without feeling like its a waste of money because it could be reprinted at any moment)
also like bloom tender and teferi's protection showing up here too. they're good cards.
would love a riding the dilu horse, ravages of war, or capture of jingzhou reprint too
Unfortunately they commissioned the wrong artwork for the Dockside Extortionist reprint because it looks more like a Monkey Pirate than a Goblin Pirate. Did they forget that they were supposed to reprint Dockside Extortionist thinking they were actually reprinting Ragavan, Nimble Pilferer? Looks that way to me. Wonder If they'll correct the artwork for the second print run?
its clearly from ixalan, where goblins are more reminiscent of monkeys, its just leaning into the idea of thieving pirate instead of bureaucrat. they're not going to change the art at this point in the process.
some decent commons and uncommons that have been printed right into the ******* ground... but at least they're playable ones?
this was not the product to include that land in. yeah its one card. yeah its a common. but its in a premium set and is literal garbage after the draft. it could've been almost any other land. i mean ****, exotic orchard might as well be a common at this point because of how hard its been printed over the years, could've just made it that and said done. this should've been in commander legends 2 if anything.

why mess with perfection?
...sigh. this is the kind of chaff at these rarities in a premium level product that's more expensive, that make it abundantly clear you're gambling.
splinterfright could've easily been downshifted to uncommon and no one would've even noticed.

should've been made a damn uncommon if it was going to be here.
these are solid.
this set is also the real commander set. they should just axe the commander legends line.

good news is that the card is so good, and so in demand, it won't stay low for long.
