So what changed, and why is everyone up in an uproar about it?

people like troll whats his face want powerful cards for next to nothing. thats really all it comes down to. essentially they want to abolish rarity

my bet is no, because they're too specific for a core set what with urza's name on them and all. m10 shied away from specific locations and things of that sort and went for a very generic anywhere in the multiverse kind of feel. reprinting urzatron in m11 would go a bit against that.

    Whats the new reprint policy?

basically that things on the reserve list won't be reprinted in any capacity.
you know, basically whats been in effect for the past 12 or so years.

i'd do it just because i'd get more use out of the arid mesas, but they'll probably stay a higher price in the long run compared to the heirarchs anyway

That's why the rare was worth 50 cents. No one wanted it. It is worth sold in bulk. See?

A dual land is only worth on top of lets say $1.something (Revised packs are worth less than $30) for a speculated value. They are not WORTH $30. That is impossible. They sell like that on auction. Or speculated to sell for that amount. But to open them they do not cost that much.

Thats the way I see it.

a dual land is worth what its worth because people want it, see?
therefore, with 10 dual lands in revised, PLUS things like wrath of god, demonic tutor, sol ring, wheel of fortune, etc.. the chances of opening a pack that contains cards at or near that price, is fairly high. you may not think its fair, or right, or whatever, but it sells. the price is dictated by demand for it. when they stop selling at that price, they'll go down in price. whats more, if a pack of revised was 5 dollars, and you were pulling 30 dollars in cards out of it, wouldn't you buy as many as you could until they were scarce? i sure would. then they go up to 30 dollars a pack anyway.

the pack of zendikar i opened yesterday would like to have a word with you. theres no way anyone could sell the cards that came out of it and make up the cost of the pack when commons are so easily obtained and the rare was jank worth $0.50 because no one wants it.

As you mentionned they are already some neat elf card to get the mana. But you can also add to that:Greenweaver Druid, Omnath, Locus of Mana... Or other way to get land faster such as Oracle of Mul Daya or use spells to put the 0/1 eldrazi tokens!!! And I'm not even talking about standard or legacy with cards such as: Aetherplasm or Elvish Piper...

and just as easily as it can be put into play, it can be taken out of play, so whats your point?

I didn't say I would get anything I said the opposite. I said I might get nothing.

I opened Chronicles packs last year and got a City Of Brass, and a Blood Moon and like 3 Tormod's Crypt. So I was happy.

Last year another time I opened packs of the Dark and got a Goblin Wizard, and Stone Calendar. That's not so bad. Goblin Wizard is the set's most sought after rare following Ball Lightning, so it was the best exclusive to the Dark rare I could have opened.. I didn't get Maze Of Ith but it is luck of the draw I only opened a small handful of them.

Another time last year I opened packs of Homelands.. like 14 of them, and got all sorts of stuff. Some of it great like Ihsan's Shade, Eron The Relentless, Merchant Scroll, Serrated Arrows, Black Carriage. Didn't get Baron Sengir but oh well. Yes I know this is sort of a waste to open there isn't really anything worthwhile whatsoever but it was extremely cheap. less than $2 a pack I think it was retail when the set came out. So that is acceptable.

I get my data from experience.
I remember a time when I was kid when I could bring a deck to school and play at lunch time with all sorts of people. Lots of people played for just one summer. But they quit largely because of card availability and for no other reason.

    *

I've actually been extremely depressed all week about the reprint list. It basically means that Legacy will not be supported anymore, the card values will slowly begin to tank or have the opposite effect and skyrocket, and regardless people wont be interested in playing for much longer. It is hard to get games going where i play. lots of veteran card collectors i know are very closely considering quitting altogether because people aren't going to care if eveyrone plays online and paper card market crashes.

I sort of feel like one of my best friends has just died. And there is no hope of any resucitation.

so basically what your'e saying is that you have no real proof and everything you've said is nothing more than conjecture.

by the same token i remember back to the black summer, outside of the card shop i couldn't get a game going at school. these days if i bring a deck to the local college and want to play, i find at least 10 people who also have decks and want to play. therefore the game must be doing incredibly well. see how that works?

also, homelands is cheap because no one wants anything in it, chronicles for much the same reason.

No you're the dumb one not me.

They have only what is just about one of the greatest and most successful games of all time, and they did nothing but shoot themselves in the foot by turning away millions of players and losing out on opportunity.

Excuse me? What money are dealers getting from vintage? I know a shop owner full up on old vintage cards that he can't sell. He has to give them away as prizes to get rid of them. The game is not nearly as popular as it used to be.

Don't you remember back during black summer 1995 when everyone played? Due to lack of card availability and the reprint policy list that was created just about everybody quit.

That was a huge loss for WOTC. Exponentially more large than any of you sorry people.

where are your numbers to support this?
    statistical data? anything?
a single shop is not a representative example of the whole.
i can make outlandish claims too you know.

oh and to further a previous point, opening boxes of old product doesn't ensure that you'll get the cards that are in demand.

    WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG RONG!

I know a guy locally I see him all the time I know him on a first name basis. He is HOLDING two sealed boxes of Arabian Nights, and a bunch of other stuff. When you see sealed packs on the internet imagine it is like this.

There are a good few hundred people holding boxes. Holding packs. Troll and Toad.com has 30 boxes of FutureSight left. That is A LOT. Part of the biggest problem I see with the MTG playing community is the aftermarket singles business. Instead of opening product, for nearly 2 decades people have been buying singles because they didn't think it was worth opening it. There is the expression "Well this value of this pack is more like an average of what you are opening.. but you get random stuff, and normally don't open much good for what you pay" this makes sealed packs very unattractive. I buy them because I have pity on all of you buying singles constantly I don't want to be part of that insanity I would rather actually open the packs and get some nice cards perhaps even some worthless ones I don't care so we don't have everyone taking from the same pot.

Eventually the iceberg you see melts, and it gets lighter, and you will see more and more people selling their product.

This cements for me that the reprint policy needs to go.

All it does it help people gouge insane prices out of the game. cards like Mana Vortex sell for next to nothing meanwhile Maze Of Ith sells for bonkers prices. It's a freaking COMMON. Open more Dark packs you weirdos. Same for Legends packs everytime you open an italian one for $30, and you open a $20 freaking Chain Lightning, along with 3 uncommons (maybe a Karakas, a Mana Drain) and then a rare (maybe something decent) even if you get screwed you are opening cards for $1-$2 a piece. So buy them that way. This is affordable. You guys are from the WANT-IT-NOAW generation get over yourselfs.

The aftermarket is not stupid. They know that if the packs are rationed out slowly it appears there is next to nothing when in fact there is tons of it.

Why is WOTC protecting bastards like this? Collectors my ass. People have more than enough stuff for themselves if their collections get 'devalued' good riddance. I shouldn't be paying $67 for a freaking coffee. There is reasonable and there is unreasonable. WOTC should be responsible and reprint cards to keep reasonable prices.

    and if its premium coffee?

opening sealed product sitting in storage will solve nothing. it'll be opened, sold, and then you're in the same boat. why is it ok for baneslayer angel to sell for $50, but not a dual land? if the demand for maze of ith is high (and it is) why is it not okay that it sells for what it sells for?

the way you're talking wizards might as well just do away with packs and have a system where you order whatever card you want for 10 cents and they just send it to you.

Instead of taking the easy way out and scrapping the formats, I'd rather Wizards (and Hasbro) grow the testicular fortitude to just scrap the reserve list. The health of the game is more important than the value of the next guy's cardboard. Other people don't need to suffer rising prices because you made the decision to buy cards in the past.

But meh, here we go with another repring policy debate.

sure, but how are you reprinting them in a way that doesn't just hand them out like candy (why not do this for every card in demand then?), doesn't effect standard, yet reduces price or makes staples more available?

Hmm, I doubt anyone could argue with this point. If WotC reprinted alot of older cards more people would play older formats.

it depends on which old cards got reprinted. not all older cards are playable. if it was just a reprint of all old cards, yeah maybe probably.

I should clarify, I think. I have no objection to the general mechanic. The idea of a creature that gets stronger as you invest in it is neat and potentially flavorful. My objection is to the term "level up", which strikes me as an awkward borrowing from D&D and every RPG to follow. Unlike other ability names, it evokes dry rules language rather than fantasy flavor.

this is my feeling on it too. it just feels so unimaginative. like, this is seriously the best they could come up with?
