i heard a rumor that this duel deck will contain neither elspeth or tezzeret. instead, YOU will be playing as the planeswalker.
can anyone confirm/refute?
someone was probably thinking of the decks based around those in the video game where none of the planeswalkers are present in the actual deck as you're supposed to be playing as them. part of the allure of the dual decks centered around two planeswalkers is that those two planeswalkers are actually in the product.
i've given up on standard recently too. its just costing too much. i don't mind 15 dollars a week to draft, but i'd rather spend the cost to build a standard deck on that, or a legacy deck, or hell a ps3, than i would on a set of cards thats going to fall in price in a few months.
aside from what i win in draft, i don't get packs any more ever. the box of worldwake didn't even come close to making up its cost, and then after the box of roe that i got not even reaching half of its cost, i haven't bought a pack since outside of the 3 for draft. m11 will have to really wow me with its non-mythics for me to get a box of it, let alone packs.
I don't see how multiplayer EDH can be competitive. Aren't you just one player against three or four? That seems more like a matter of luck and politics than pure "game skill."
winning is still the objective though. the politics and interactions between multiple decks are just an additional part of it.
I will summaries my thoughts from a similar thread.
My issue with the current price of Standard is that the high price of the cards makes type 2 less accessible to your average player, sure I can afford them but I am a college graduate with a career. If standard cost this much when I was a high school or college student I might have thrown in the towel long ago and I am afraid that is what these prices are going to do to players.
Making what is supposed the most accessible format this expensive is going to discourage new players getting into the game and budget players who want to be at least moderately competitive from playing at all.
yup exactly. i know personal experience and observation doesn't count for much in these situations because its a small scale, but i can think of at least 4 friends who have quit playing standard because its just too expensive now. i myself stopped going to events as frequently and started running some cheap piece of garbage just to say i've got a standard deck. truth is most people would rather spend 60 bucks on multiple cards to finish a deck, or on a new video game, but not on a single jace.
theres enough answers to planewalkers where there doesn't need to be a planeswalker hoser just yet.
as has been mentioned, off the top of my head: o-ring, x-damage spells, acidic slime, terrestadon, maelstrom pulse, vampire hexmage, throwing creatures at them, bounce effects, counter spells, etc.

he never had one.
doubtful. looks like a baloth not a lhurgoyf

...its amazing i bought a second pack after that.
i mean its cool, but if it scaled it would be so much better.
the legacy weapon didn't destroy phyrexia
the bombs urza made that were powered by sparks severely damaged it, but its still floating around in the blind eternities too.
i have noticed a hell of a lot more of it lately though. both on the internet, and at the shops i go to.
doesn't really count for much, but i'm just saying.
