Part of the reason Jace is so expensive is because Alara was a failure.
Less people were playing because Alara was bad, so wizards shipped less product for the subsequent block. Less packs to open means that Jace (along with all the other cards from WW) is rarer than mythics from a different set.

because zendikar sold incredibly well and saw increased player base. worldwake had two cards worth opening a pack for. jace and stoneforge. its not worth it to buy or open packs of a set when 99% of the cards are worthless garbage. that'll increase the price of some cards. jace also saw play in legacy, standard, and extended... that'll drive up price too since you know, its in demand and all.
A card that single-handedly makes Extort matter in Commander. But I'm confused why this is a mono-black card, surely a mass-Extort enabler would have made more sense as a gold card? Especially with those stats.
wait what the ****? its monoblack? why in the **** does a monoblack card have a 7 on its ass? why isn't this thing b/w? oh right. this set blows *******.
oh nice. another morphling variant... meh. oh look a weaker armadillo cloak too! ...meh.
i'd rather they came up with original ideas than just rehash old ones, two more reasons i won't be buying any of this set.
yes i know, all cards these days are a rehash of old ones, but come on. we could've completed the morphling cycle with a black or white variant, or i don't know... just reprinted armadillo cloak since it wouldn't see play anyway.
wouldn't it make more sense to see who is creating the art for the cards? if its mostly white men, they're going to depict what they know, sometimes without even realizing it.
The set is not ten rare legends, and everybody needs to stop acting like it is.
its not just the poorly designed champions, the majority of the mythics feel like bland garbage, the other rares feel uninspired and generic too. the champions just happen to be the most anticipated and the face of the set. of course they're going to get a lot of flak but the whole set so far feels forced. theres multicolor cards that could be monocolor, cards who could have their casting cost reduced by 1-2 mana and still be too expensive to be any fun, or viable. the only things standing out are that u/g mana drain and how bad everything else is.
Why isn't there an option for none? I find them all to be uninspired and bland. Only one or two would be part of my 99 and never my commander. They're lacking in flavor, unique abilities, power, anything and everything making for a fun commander, they dont have. To top it all off they barely synergize with their respective guild leaders too.
it may not have had much in the way centralized characters depicted through the cards, but there was so much flavor, you knew what was going on and wanted to know more.
and peace shall sleep wasn't a bad novel for exploring more of the fallen empires storyline either. it could've been better without the man/dwarf love and the dragons, but it still explored the areas that most people wanted to see more of.

you assume i play legacy
so this. there were so many missed opportunities with this set.
edit: its also, surprise surprise, unoriginal design! **** this set.

i love this card, but it should've been b/w
