Technically 'cost C less to cast' is better than 'cost 1 less to cast' because it'd reduce C if there is one or 1 if there isn't, but it'd be way too confusing outside of sets like OGW (which they didn't bother with).

True but to me (and I may be wrong) things with colorless in their cost are likely going to be very set specific, on planes that really care about colorless. I really do not see them being a thing everywhere, and I do not see waste being in all sets. So having things cost reduced by a colorless mana would likely confuse people (especially new players in the future who never dealt with the BFZ block) more then anything else if there are no cards with a colorless mana in their cost.

I dunno the implication of lhurgoyfs lore and planes attachments, but this is the perfect time to print tarmogoyf and the other lhurgoyfs that use the new delirium keyword; it would be a total failure to not include them.

    Time for a Lhurgoyf planeswalker.

I would love to see goyf reprinted in a standard legal, unlimited print set, but I just do not see it happening its price would plummet, collected/hoarders would rage endlessly and wizards does not like that. Plus Goyf is such a wonderful tool to sell more and more modern masters sets, so look for it next in Modern masters 2017! that way the price remains largely unaffected by the limited print run and they can continue to go on how much they are trying to help new players get into modern by reprinting these cards in such a way. Smile while continuing to rake in huge sums of cash! Smile

The way that counter spell is worded and how strong and complex it is for uncommon has me calling fake.

it does not seem all that strong really, it only targets sorceries, not creatures, instants, artifacts, enchantments, planeswalkers. it is only strong in very narrow instances, in all other instances its quite weak, thus making it by far more of a sideboard card then anything else, because what if your opponent is not playing many or any sorceries?

I ask this half sarcasticly and half genuinely but has a good card ever actually seen a reprint in a "return to x" set other then maybe lands? Why do people get so upset when they don't reprint amazing card Y that was in the original set?

Because they want to use it but can not afford them. Smile

Original art of a modern played Innistrad card on a playmat of a modern gp? I imagine they just wanted an Innistrad card to be the art to hype SOI. It's possible the card will get a reprint, but this is very far from confirmed.

    That isn't the original art.

    It really is though...

    It really isn't though...

Very well its the original Innistrad art then Smile

Not that big a fan of werewolves, but I gotta say, that looks impressive on a mat. Doubt we'll get a reprint in SOI though, it's too good for standard.

Everything is to good for standard these days hehe. Smile Someday, I would like to hear explanations on why a card can not be in standard that is not just the simply says nothing, to good for standard, well what makes it to good? Someday would be nice to have a set that is more then just a bunch of strictly worse then everything printed before it cards. Smile

I would wager this is speculation... but not a lot of money. BFZ was a very mediocre set, but, by printing $100 bills in random packs, they sold a lot of them. They are a business and want to sell cards, so that's a perfectly legitimate way for them to do it without increasing the price of standard (which would be the result with Ultra Mythic Rares that are playable in standard). In fact, it's probably the opposite effect.

By the way, Expeditions are in no way responsible for BFZ being a poor set.

As a lucky guy who has opened 4 expeditions (including a Wasteland that is financing my way into Modern), I welcome having the chance to open a $100 bill.

Just a question though, say you got unlucky, opened the same amount of product and got no expeditions. only all the other cards you cracked, how would you feel then? Would you be satisfied with the cards you did get?

Would you rather open half a case of boosters and have a shot at a $100 card super extra rare in a pack, or a chance to get a playset of a staple you need for modern that was reprinted as a normal standard legal addition to the set?

That is the problem I have if Expedition rare cards become a norm. To easy for wizards to say, see we are reprinting what you want, without actually helping people get into the older formats.

I opened a couple of boxes of DTK for boxing day. I got them for 100$ CAD all-in (taxes and shipping), which was an amazing deal since boxes in Canada are now around 130-150$ with taxes. Despite the presence of many Standard and Modern staples, I got shafted for value (no K-Command, no Dragonlord Ojutai, etc.). Opening boxes is ALWAYS a gamble.

Consider FRF and ORI. They're not much different than BFZ: either you open the value mythic rare (Ugin, Jace) or you lose money. KTK is similar, but at the rare level (the 5 fetchlands).

The problem is that WotC has been very slow to reprint Modern staples, which has led to a progressively higher cost for entering the Modern format. Expeditions, being so low in volume, do not affect the price of the cards. No one, not even WotC would consider them a reprint. Like foil cards, they are a lottery ticket, a bonus that you can open.

I want to see Modern staples reprinted, either in standard or in an AFFORDABLE summer product (like Conspiracy, but not like MM). Expeditions are not a fix.

Which is exactly the problem, Add on to the expeditions being special foil full arts and you really do not help the price at all. And most sets have at least a couple money rares, not just mythics but BFZ lacks that, they even managed to make dual lands less then desirable hehe. It is just a bit worrying to me, elvish mystic is even to strong for standard these days, when will they decide a 2 cmc version is to strong and go with a 1/1 that taps for green for 3 cmc :p

GP Detroit is a Modern event, so using this card for the art makes sense, without confirming it being reprinted in SOI as this gp occurs a month before the prerelease for SOI. Also as pointed out, this is the original art anyway. This in no way means a reprint is confirmed. nor does it confirm werewolves, though Innistrad without them would seem a bit odd, But who knows what they will be doing.

This is literally people crying about $100 dollar bills in booster packs. It's literally this and it makes me incredibly sad to see that quote actually became a thing.

I am fine with the Zendikar expedition, as they made sense to me. Zendikar is a plane that cares much more then usual about lands, but the Eldrazi are wiping that land out making it rarer and rarer. However, if it is also a thing in SOI it points to it being the norm. And the norm of making modern/legacy staples "reprinted" as a super rare special full art version, does nothing to help people get a hold of these staples to be able to break in and compete in those formats.

Example: Liliana of the Veil which is what currently TCG mid of around $100-$105. If it is reprinted in SOI as a normal addition to the set, the price would likely plummet at least while the set is in print, making this card available to more and more people to use in modern. Now lets say its "reprinted" but only as a super extra rare special foil full art version along with say 9 others with odds of getting one at 1 in 110 packs, which if you pull one chances are it would not be this one. The price for this reprint would likely end up 200-300 pretty easily, doing absolutely nothing to the regular old editions price, helping no one new break into the modern format (being able to actually compete).

We need other formats to be more accessible, But most every move wizards make involves them trying to keep very high priced cards highly playable cards up at their very high price. This is not people being mad at wizards throughing an "extra" hundred dollar bill in a pack, its people being peeved that staple they may need are technically reprinted but does nothing to reduce the price they cost and the likely hood of them getting one is slim to none, let alone a play-set.

Also as some pointed out the list of playable cards from BFZ, even in the current Standard is laughably low. Basically 95-99% of the value in a pack is on the extremely low chance of a expedition and the guarantee of a full art land, or the very low chance of pulling one of the 2 mythics that are worth more then a pack cost... BFZ takes a top heavy value in a pack to new never before seen levels. In that way I see the expeditions as a bit of a failure buy 3 packs, you do not get an expedition you lose but hey you have around $1.50 in basic full art lands :p That is the problem, there is next to no value in the packs other then the expeditions... yet those expeditions will be the sole reason sealed product stays higher in price likely even after it rotates, since BFZ rotating seems like it will have little impact on standard anyway, unless of course SOI block and the one following it proves to be just as or more weak then BFZ is.

Personally I really hope Emrakul is not in SOI, I do not want 2 sets in a row dominated by Eldrazi. Of course if they go that route I will accept it and play on anyway. I Know what I want is not Wizards chief concern hehe.

I would like some time to pass a year or so, after all the eldrazi have rotated out of standard and many no longer really think of them and bam, Emrakul arrives and unleashes chaos once more! Maybe in Kamigawa, A set a lot of people disliked, perhaps people would love seeing a plane they did not enjoy the first time around in dire straits hehe.

Well the problem with that is support. They already have a bunch of Eldrazi support cards in standard right now. If they wait for BFZ to rotate, then when Emrakul shows up, they'll have to provide more support to make an "Emrakul deck" possible.

I think it will feel weird no matter where Emrakul shows up, except on Zendikar since it is all about Eldrazi.

Which I think would be quite fine, 5 or 6 years down the road, we may be hungry for another Eldrazi block, Right now, I am a bit over them, I would like to move on, also I do not need to see another plane nearly destroyed by nearly unstoppable Eldrazi right after a story of a plane nearly destroyed by nearly unstoppable Eldrazi. Either way I will play still, These are just my hopes.

I really hope this does not happen, I tolerated the Expeditions, because in a way they made sense in a Zendikar set which is big on land, but with all the destruction some lands are super super rare... However, doing it again right away afterwards just screams here we want to print more and more worthless cards that will never be played anywhere but standard that way you are punished for collection a complete set of cards because there may be one, two cards if your luck worth 5 bucks once it rotates. It gets old hearing nothing but, to strong for standard, to strong for standard. It is like they do not want anything to ever change the landscape of older formats, hoping people will get tired of doing the same thing over and over again and quit or something. It seems Wizards is afraid to make sets with much value in them anymore, like it would be a terrible thing.

Well since I have no interest in such a thing and do not want to see it, that likely means it will be a thing... I just really hope this is not a trend.

I had kind of weird thing happen in my fat pack: I got two Chandras. And they were in packs right next to each other so that I literally opened one right after the other. (I also got two Wandering Fumarole in the box).

Maybe others have had similar experiences to this in the past, but I've never opened a fat pack with two of the same Mythics, especially in packs right next to one another.

It happens, I got 2 of the Gideon's in an origins fat pack. Also about 75% of the Fat packs I open do not even have a mythic, which is likely just bad luck on my part. It is because unlike booster boxes which are just semi-random. Fat packs are completely random. And when things are completely random strange things are going to happen. I have seen a couple people at my LGS open fat packs from this and BFZ get 2 expeditions in the same fat pack as well, wish that could have been me!
