Just my $.02. I've played this deck off and on since late 2016, and to me Zhalfirin Void seems like an irreplaceable component of the deck.
I play twice a week on paper at a competitive LGS with a large turnout of 40+ players on Mondays and 60+ on Fridays. Over the past three events I am 11-2-1, going 4-0-1, 3-1, 4-1. Here is my list:
4x Blinkmoth Nexus
4x Eldrazi Temple
2x Gemstone Caverns
3x Ghost Quarter
2x Mutavault
2x Scavenger Grounds
2x Wastes
4x Zhalfirin Void
Creature (24)
4x Eldrazi Mimic
2x Endless One
4x Eternal Scourge
2x Matter Reshaper
4x Reality Smasher
4x Thought-Knot Seer
4x Simian Spirit Guide
4x Dismember
Artifact (9)
4x Chalice of the Void
4x Serum Powder
1x Smuggler's Copter
2x Gut Shot
4x Ratchet Bomb
4x Relic of Progenitus
3x Spatial Contortion
2x Surgical Extraction
UW players, how do you deal with this dynamic? If you're like me then you run into Bant a lot, and this always makes the matchup feel very bad on my side of the table.
I wonder if a deck that plays Curious Obsession and Serum Visions might actually be able to make some hay out of Topplegeist.
It can also be fun to occasionally dummy-activate Vial, without intending to play a creature, just to keep opponents on their toes, if you have the breathing room to do this or want to force a play before you untap.
Here is the build I went 4-0-1 with today. I could easily have won the draw, if I hadn't punted hard in G1. The event was a "Golden Ticket for the Portland GP" tourney:
4x Drogskol Captain
2x Geist of Saint Traft
4x Mausoleum Wanderer
1x Nebelgast Herald
4x Rattlechains
1x Remorseful Cleric
4x Selfless Spirit
4x Spell Queller
4x Supreme Phantom
Instant (6)
1x Echoing Truth
4x Path to Exile
1x Remand
2x Cavern of Souls
4x Flooded Strand
2x Hallowed Fountain
1x Horizon Canopy
3x Island
1x Moorland Haunt
2x Mutavault
1x Plains
4x Seachrome Coast
Enchantment (2)
2x Curious Obsession
Artifact (4)
4x Aether Vial
2x Blessed Alliance
1x Disdainful Stroke
1x Dispel
2x Echoing Truth
1x Grafdigger's Cage
1x Negate
3x Rest in Peace
3x Stony Silence
1x Unified Will
Here is my thinking about my choices:
Since I prefer the UW take on Spirits, I'm considering a full playset of Echoing Truth in the 75, because of its broad utility against all kinds of permanents, and its double utility against Terminus/Settle the Wreckage.
Knight of Autumn is probably the go-to from now on, though.
