Dragonlord Kolaghan isn't just unplayable EDH garbage, she's just straight garbage. Waste of a mythic slot, waste of fantastic art. Her stats means she dies to everything, her ability will never trigger (unless its a net benefit for the opponent), she's nothing but 6 mana for 6 damage.
Its just so annoying. Who wants to bet that the Ojutai will be good?
I have been thinking, could we try to run less non-bounce lands and more basics?
you can but why? they are the core of the deck; you need them to be viable. right now the most common decks run ~10 (4 Simic, 3 Gruul, 1 Golgari, 1 Selesnya, 1 Boros). The lands in the deck are pretty set in stone, with only 2-3 flex spots (usually a Temple/extra Cavern or Vesuva and Sunhome vs Kessig Wolf Run).
I would love to run fetchs/basics (just went 1-2 at my LGS, played against 3 decks mainboarding Blood Moon, Twin, Twin, Skred) but there is no room and does not further our plan.
Hmm, is it really all that set? 10 Bounce lands are a must, 3 tolaria west as well and the slayer's stronghold. The rest?
That's not surprising considering that Vanguard has more of an impact in Eastern Continents than Western Continents where it's still dominated by Yu-Gi-Oh! right now. Kaijudo I think is having a bigger impact in North America than Vanguard is because in a sense it doesn't "alienate" people who aren't otaku and that it isn't as luck based as Vanguard is where there is an even balance between luck and skill.
Actually, I live in Australia now, never got around to updating my info :P. As a man of maths (engineering), triggers are some of the easiest probability factors in a card game. Magic has mana screw, weiss has climax rates and yugioh has the coin flip that determines the winner.
My experience and data doesn't really support the lucksacky nature of Vanguard. Over 30 Matches at my locals with (5 different decks) and of the 10 or so regulars. The results from week to week has the same 5 people occupying the top 4. We all run different decks each week and all are competitive (complete build, 4 Perfect Guards). If the game was crazy luck based, then standings should bear that out with an even spread across all positions with all players regardless of skill. It probably helps that since we run Best of 3 Swiss, we are able to gather data and test decks more efficiently than anyone running Best of 1 Double Elim.
I don't know, but all the local shops in my area play Best of 2 Swiss with a Top 8 (for major events). It may be because alot of our players are also magic players who won't tolerate a best of 1 structure.
Yu-Gi-Oh!'s ALOT more stressful than MTG, infact in terms of rule interactions
I make a distinction between stressful because the rules are wildly inconsistent and stressful because game decisions actually matter. Modern YuGiOh decks all just seem to combo out and get the OTK. Going first in YuGiOh is so crazy good that alot of matches (particularly mirrors) are essentially determined by the coinflip; its like Combo Winter never ended. At least in Vanguard, my decisions actually matter.
I was too excited at work :(, forgot it affected lands

I think we can use this.
My meta is %30 Twin... so hurray for me.
