  • posted a message on VINTAGE as a Limited Format (???!?!)
I believe we all know that they want to print Power 9 online (for Vintage format), and we know that they plan to find the best way to sell product including Power 9.

Limited event is the balance way to release Power 9 out in random quantity, and hard-to-evaluate price (compared to selling Duel Decks, etc.).

Hope they learn from MMA and not making something similar to MED 1-4 format again. (I personally dislike them as limited format.)

  • posted a message on Holding lands in the late game as a bluff.
My general strategy is holding exactly one land in hand. As others mentioned, it can backfire when you are the target of discard spell or spell that put card on top of your library (chittering rat), or you have draw spell.

I think the question should be how to read one card in your opponent's hand whether it is bluff land or real trick? Or how can you act/play to effectively bluff your opponent about card(s) in your hand?

Occasionally, I pause after drawing land card or holding 2 land cards without playing land.

  • posted a message on Draft value of sedge scorpion/guardian of meletis?
Guardians is only sideboard material against extremely ground aggressive deck to me, or your deck is very slow and control-ish.

Sedge Scorpion is average, not solid but not feel bad to run it. It's better in slow deck.

    Phalanx Leader

Best card IMO. He's good enough for first pick material.

Take him and read signal whether white is open, ok or get cut. Same with any bomb you 1st picked, abandon it if that color is severely cut.

  • posted a message on Sell my car now or hold on to it?
Hold on to the car, don't sell it now.

As cme point out, car price hugely drop in the first 1-2 years. Buying new car is either you just want a new car, or the car is very very old (maintenance cost is too high).

65k miles in 5 years sound good to me. As you are the only owner, you should know fairly well that your car is still in good condition. You should be fine to at least 130k miles as long as you take care the maintenance on regular basis.

Magic Online Release Date: July 19, 2013

Unless I'm missing official announcement, I believe there is 2 weeks delay between paper and online release.

I guess M14 should be available online from 29 Jul onward.

    To take out square .... (1-3/2)^2 = (2-3/2)^2
There will be absolute on both side .... |1-3/2| = |2-3/2|
    Which results to .... |-1/2| = |1/2|
    Which is .... 1/2 = 1/2

  • posted a message on Visiting Japan in April - tips for a tourist?
    Quote from gelf
    Hi MTGS people,

My partner and I are planning a trip to Japan in April 2013. It will be the first time either of us have been there and we'll be there about 2 weeks. I'm looking for any ideas what to do and see while we're there.

We have decided that we're not going to Disney land (it's just not our scene) and it's unlikely I'll be playing MTG while I'm there cause my partner really isn't into gaming at all (but maybe we can do different things for an afternoon?).

Anyway, happy for travel advice and tips Grin

I'll try to give you quick food for thought before we can discuss into more details if you are really planning for the travel.

    - How long will you stay in Japan? 1 or 2 weeks?
    - What is your rough budget? Try to spend less but get enough Japan feeling, or pay decent amount for better experience?
    - Do you want to stick to few cities or all over Japan region?
    - What is your interest? You say no to Disneyland.
How about Culture? (Old Temple & Museum, there're plenty of them)
Or Hi-tech gadget & Anime + Cosplay? (Electric town in Tokyo - Akihabara)
Or Nature like Fuji mountain, Lake, Cherry Blossom spot?
Or Teenager/Fashion style (Shibuya, Harajuku in Tokyo)?

You better have a guidebook as Jay13x and others recommended if you have no idea to visit. They can be used as an overview map when you plan for each day trip.

Not sure where you are from, but one common tip is if you plan to ride a lot of Shinkansen (bullet train) between cities, you may buy JR-Pass from your country for good discount of riding Japan Train.

    Edit: Miss you 2nd post.
If you enjoy nature, art and history, Kyoto, Nara are my recommendation.

Though, you can still find quiet, peaceful temple/park in Tokyo and any other area. Kyoto is just quite more historical, in my opinion.

I feel it works very slow (cost 6 and work on your next upkeep) and unplayable because it will become great only in rare situation.

The card reminds me of Avarice Totem and Puca's Mischief.

One different here is that, if opponent play it and get your best permanent, you can't exchange it back for that permanent. You are forced to choose another opponent's best permanent, and so on.

  • posted a message on RTR - too many combat tricks
It's hard to play around in paper if you don't have much information.

Online though, you have ideas in Match 2, 3 after scouting (which sometime cost you a game if you play around too much). I normally don't play around much in match 1 online.

Combat tricks can be prevalent when you face Selesyna deck. In one draft, I see one player play a lot of tricks. You can name them, Common Bond, Giant Growth, Swift Justice, Rootbond Defense, 1G +2/+2 untap instant.

Aside from that, I see not much combat tricks.

While I prefer more aggro creature, Lobber Crew is the most suited here. It should help dealing 3 - 4 damages on average.

  • posted a message on Cube is back October 3rd
    After read through the thread, the problems (for us) I can see are;
    1) Cube tix cannot be traded.
    2) 8 tix are a bit expensive.
    3) Even if you have 10 Cube tix, you are still required 2 tix to play.

    My guess;
    1) Wizards want to try Cube tix, they may change Cube tix to be tradeable in the future but I don't think it will happen.
Another possibility is that they may allow other flexible entry cost, for example, 5 tix + 5 Cube tix.
    2) Depends on how popular the Cube is, if not, they will move back to 7 tix. I think they keep 8 tix, and from time to time, they will offer discount Cube queue.
    3) They will keep 2 tix as minimum entry requirement as one of the business strategy to consume tix from the system.

  • posted a message on MTG vs. Marriage; a Mental Dilemna
I'm with dcartist even his advice is too harsh. But as we already knew, real life can be harsh.

    Your situation may end up;
    1) hurt your wife's feeling, and may not be able to recover the relationship
    2) your wife get job, hobby or quickly adapt herself to new environment without much of your sacrifice
    3) you sacrifice part of your life to make new happy married life (your wife already sacrificed part or most of her life)

My experience is not similar to you but I end up between 2) and 3). With 2) I still have personal time (much less though) while she's busy. But 3) is always needed to form a happy married life.

I would advise you to go extreme in the beginning. Stop being old you for a while. Help out her, try to understand her feeling/concern. One day you two will establish the family, job, financial,....which will help for future kids and retirement (it's very long long way to talk about, but you better start thinking about it, sooner is better).

With some establishment, you can gradually get back to what your old life was without much concern. This can take times depends on your effort.

  • posted a message on question for cashiers
I am not a cashier myself.

I believe people occasionally make mistake (i.e. overpay), why don't you help correct that unintentional mistake (return money) and avoid doing another mistake (ignore and pocketing).

Slightly off topic, I know people wouldn't bother do this in real life. But are there any place/business that test their employee (cashier) by creating such situation to see how you react (fake customer pretend overpaying)?
