Yeah, I have played those. And they all die instantly.

All big creatures die instantly. That is kinda the nature of standard. Even the hexproof ones are easily killable now. Are you looking for a orzohv token shell? Cause that would be doable too but not as a control build.

This is the first real workable list I've seen/tested with Feather in it. I don't think the card is really good at all but this shell works good with it. I usually don't care to cast her because the other guys seem to get it done a lil better. I do think if you are running it, God-eternal kefnet should probably be in it. It might be the best creature in the set and fits so well in this shell also.

Ryder, have you tested that in there at all?

Spires of orazca and open the graves are played near you? I haven't seen either one played in competitive games. The only thing you get crushed by is midranged creatures that are just bigger and badder. The tribunal requires you to no attack which just sucks for you. It is more midrangey than it is aggro. Your deck though, you'll figure it out.
The biggest problem i see is that you are playing lesser versions of the good cards in WW.
    dauntless bodyguard
    adanto vanguard
    skymarcher aspirant
all three of these are better than the creatures you are currently running, super cheap (.25 each in most lgs) and fit the deck better.

Even tenth district legionnaire would be a house in there.

Maybe add benthic biomancer to help with the draw. He is silly by himself let alone with ascendancy or the new Fblthp, the Lost to help with draw.

and sharktocrab is just a power house for midrangey creature decks.

Pter's is the plan. I have stolen a few drakes though because i usually dont lose momentum until around turn 7-8 anyways.
izzet drakes was the worst matchup for me ever. It was nearly unwinnable most cases. The only person still playing it at my LGS is a bad player and doesn't even run Niv. So i beat that pretty easily.

    Hi,

returning player here highly interested in piloting this deck type as I've always been in love with anything RDW, what cards are we losing to the rotation (if there are any)?

Not been playing for years now so I don't have any idea on the current standard rotation.

    Thanks!

We lose quite a bit in rotation, mostly everything. That isn't until late fall though.

I like the idea but you have to watch because you get blown out by two very popular cards atm.
cry of the carnarium and goblin chainwhirler. You have some combat tricks to save them but if you get caught, you are in a world of trouble. I agree though, way way to many combat tricks and no where near enough dudes.
swiftblade vindicator would fit your idea really well too. switch out the conclave tribunal for seal away imo also.

So that's two for putting in a counterspell. But which counter? There's not all-purpose counter besides wizard's retort is there? So you'd have to choose between essence capture, negate, or quench. It might end up that just watching the meta and picking the appropriate counter to add is better, but I'm gonna try the lazotep as a 1 or 2 of and see how it works out.

Why 4 surge mares against drakes when everything flies? Is their purpose to be a creature that can't be lava coiled?

    I usually put in
2x deep freeze (soon to be KT)
    1x exclusion mage
    1x selective snare
1x of either negate and essence capture

It seems like if they play Niv and I don't either bounce or deep freeze him the next turn then I always lose, but otherwise it's been roughly 50-50 for me so far

Yea, i didn't mean 4 mares vs drakes i just meant those are the cards i actually side in the majority of games.
I run +1 catpure and +1 melody vs drakes.
i already run 3x capture and 2x melody in my build now.

Post rotation? You lose everything basically. Not a deck anymore.

the transmutation card is a definite upgrade to deepfreeze. rest are pretty pointless. like geek said, if you are paying 2 mana, might as well just play a counterspell.

I also dont find them impressive though geek. I normally only side in 6 cards
    4x surge mare
    1x melody
    1x ess capture

    pretty much my go to.

I agree. Combat tricks are best left in draft where you can't prepare for them most likely. Even then I wouldn't play Giant Growth most of the time.

So, did everyone dismiss this deck completely?

I am skeptical regarding Entrancing Melody. How important has it been?
If we include 2 Sphinx of Foresight, the 20nd island is a must?

Despite the UU cost on Surge Mare, is it better than the upcoming Wall of Runes since it can attack and the loot?

Don't think people have moved on. I think there just isn't much discussion to be made with this deck. Lil shifts depending on your meta, i.e. surge mare in main. Things like that. I think if you added the sphinx, you would probably need 20 lands but i'm not sure. geek would def be the guy to answer that, as he said, hes the only advocate of that card on this forum. The mare will probably be better than the wall for the attack and because it survives a lava coil.
The melody was generally added for use against the mirror. With less people playing this deck, i think you could safely run the OG version that autumn is running still.
I generally play my gruul aggro now but i still occasionally let this deck rip. Just doesn't have the overwhelmingly good odds that it used to cause of the meta shift.

Whoa whoa, lets not lump collision//colossus as a combat trick. It is mostly a removal spell that happens to have utility. Giant growth hasn't been a good combat trick in a long time. blossoming defense should be the card you compare it to. that was a card that wasn't totally included in all green creature lists because of its unreal ability to come when you dont need it/cant use it. that would be my starting point for comparison though.

Oath of Kaya would be an include as well. liliana's triumph too. and the despark
This is going to be a very popular deck soon. More midrang/control than pure control.

Edit: I misread oath of kaya...card is garbage.

I don't understand why people are so excited for this card. It isn't that good of a card. Standard and Modern wont play this. Is it that good for commander? Did she have some sort of lore that people are all silly about?

Lol when you don't know the lore and complain.

By the way one of the best card of the last year. Strong, fun and flavorful. Honestly i'm liking even the art, so peculiar.
... now can we have Myczil next? XD

Wasn't a complaint. Was an actual question. I don't follow the story but I didn't realize that meant I shouldn't talk about magic cards.....and wasn't sure why everyone was so excited for this is all. It isn't a good card in competitive magics. I don't play EDH so I figured that is where it was poised to be. I'm happy if you like the card lol *shrug*
