Tbh, the cat deck is real bad. No card advantage at all. can just chop em down 1 at a time and it folds to b/u. white weenie can get so much value from mentor and bugler or even the monument.

Lol its funny you say that. we are just old. i only hear the "weenie" term used for white.

I do think white weenie is good tho. mentor AND bugler seem like auto includes.

colt47: I also dont think Aethergeode miner gets around goblin chainwhirler tho. He hits the field, ability triggers, you then blink him just in time for him to come back and still take 1 dmg. Because its worldly like a wrath, he'll still just die when he comes back.

While i agree with that eating a dmg spell, they are probably already going to have a board presence and you will not. So killing your only gas (tower) will prolly end you.
I also feel that jaya is a bad PW. She only helps if you are already doing ok. I'd rather have shaheli if you really want another walker.

Do you side int he locust god or just play him? i think hes fine against control but way to slow against the rest of the pack

My cousin wants to play the satyr too. He is gonna jam it and sram into the same deck and play some type of vehicle/megatron thing.

    4x satyr
    4x sram
    4x cartouce of white
    ...etc

    Side note:
I think the metamorphic alteration is cheeky if you use it to neuter a creature but copying a creature just seems like a board stalling idea. Have you used it yet?

Agreed. There wasn't any hugely impactful cards in m19 imo but some good ones. This angel will see play but I'm of the mind that in todays magic, you need immediate value of some kind from any cards you plan to build around. At least siphoner generally only needs one turn to live to draw a card.

History v RA...i guess its just play style preference atm. Neither is drastically impactful in the current game state.

I absolutely understand the synergy of the deck. I just think those cards suggested will help you get to turn 5, 6, 7 more effectively. You aren't gonna beat any red decks with siphoner or the vamp anymore. They just have to much targeted removal. So you need to be able to live til you can drop at least shalai, which will prolly have to block and die, then lyra if you arent to low by then.

I'm building this for my kid to play so i'm definitely invested as well. Hes all on board the RA train for some reason.

I mean, does it do anything? it just comes into play and doesn't trigger most of the time. what are you using it for? just to blank spot removal?

Not saying it isn't doable....i'm playing black/white atm too. I just had lots of issues getting history out turn 3 and having two black for contempt on turn 4. I decided to go more cast out/binding instead of contempt as to sure that up a little bit. Dont gotta be so defensive, youre the one asking for input. If you dont wanna change it at all, dont bother asking

    Quote from SmauG »

-Aethergeode Miner and especially Vizier of Deferment were absolute houses against the plethora of (white based) removal. Vizier being best as it also saves a creature from Fumigate if it would happen. But when things get really broken, is when you blink Rishkar or even Servant for energy or mana.

it only blinks if it attacked or blocked. How does it do anything vs a sorcery speed fumigate? (guessing it wasn't blocking since they are playing fumigate)

I mean, maybe i'm reading it wrong but that clause makes the card pretty worthless against just about everything except settle imo.

Besides the RA itself and lyra, how do you plan on gaining 5 life in a turn?
2BB for contempt and 3WW for lyra along with BB for aetherborn and 1WW for angel. I just dont see how you wont get set behind. Even if you do have the colors, they will be coming in tapped awkwardly. If you decide to take out the sun (i think its real bad) put in gideon and lilly.

Well when you are playing competitive magic against red, B/G, mono black, b/w knights or even green....you can't profitably attack into any of those until your team is big enough or can go wide enough. So VERY often you have three creatures. If they want to kill your silver gil or kumena speaker on t1 or t2, then they are prolly gonna die anyways since neither of those are an actual threat. Can argue til youre blue in the face, the previous results have already shown that the token strats are dismal. They dont win, never have. The only succeusful list has been a go wide strat, pumping the team with lords and kumena.

Compare all you want, just dont whine like a b!tch when someone says your comparison is just flat out wrong and misguided....and by someone, i mean 1 of the 3-4 people that already did.

I mean, Kumena speaker, silver gil or any of the 12 2 drops and then kumena turn 3. I dont see how hard it is.

I dont see it hard to have 3 creatures by turn 3.

I can't tell whether you're trolling or not. Most of the successful merfolk lists have been the gowide variety and not the token ones.

and i agree that PI has no bearing....not sure why YOU initially brought it up...

Those two clone cards are super bad. They will only see play in casual table magic. PI is a power house of a card...As is Kumena. Easily it's drawing cards on turn 3. Jadelight is one of the only ones you mentioned i wouldn't sleeve up at all tho. Doesn't do anything toward your plan, unless the plan is midrange, which i dont think anyone wants to be playing merfolk.

Merfolk was pretty good. Cousin won quite a few FNMs with his go-wide folks until chainwhirler.

I would say you have 0 cards to add from M19, yes.

Ixalan's Binding is just a better card than cast out atm if youre not control. You are tapping out every turn anyways. No reason to not just get more value from the binding. That miner tho! He does blank so many removal.
