Hello. Have you considered running Gifted Aetherborn? I'm currently running Sultai, but if I was just G/B I would probably have access to them at least in the sideboard. Other than that, I've some success testing Kitesail Freebooter as well. My LGS is all over the place, Control, Aggro, Cats and Ramp.

I dont have trouble with aggro. I have like 16 2 drops so it usually never gets outta hand.
If it's the more controlling strategies that are giving you trouble, I recommend up to 2 Lifecrafter's Bestiary for the sideboard. I didn't see any in your most recently posted list. Do remember your free scries (I always forget when I haven't played the card for a while).

Heroic Intervention is obviously good against Sweltering Suns, but useless against Yahenni's Expertise. Not to mention that we tap out to build a board, so holding up 2 mana for a reactive spell can be unfeasible.

Splashing U for Spell Pierce and/or Negate seems like a bigger change than you want.

Yea, the bestiary is awesome against control. I do forgot about it alot too tho! haha. I took it out cause I rarely play vs control but it may find its way back in. Heroic Intervention is hard to keep mana up for.

Tonight i know i'll play against the following:
    2x Red Deck wins
    1x R/G dinos
    1x Marionette control
    1x Merfolk
    3x Snake variants
    2x Vehicles

I almost always win vs red/vehicles and the dinos. The MM control can get me if i dont have multiple Contempts. Merfolk is my cousin and i sometimes make play mistakes vs him cause i wanna crush him badly :p

Other snake matchups usually die to my 3x chups in main

I just wanted something spicey that no one would expect but would still be a good card

What i'm mostly seeing is a lot of main deck sweltering suns and main deck yahenni's. I was thinking about putting 1x torment of halefire in the deck somewhere

Well, after winning for 3 weeks in a row, people are starting to main-board against G/B snake. Any thoughts on something to spice it up a bit? Mostly an aggro LGS but a couple grindy decks too.

Yea, sorry about that. I haven't been on here in a while. I would probably just leave the rangers out at this point. My meta is all aggro and they just dont do much for me (since i already run 24 land, i dont get screwed often at all)

Simto: You can download Cockatrice or Xmage and play for free all you want. I play on cockatrice daily at work.

I went to our weekly tournament at my LGS and dominated again. This week we only had 8, so only 3 rounds.

    RD 1: Mardu Vehicles
Game 1 he smoked me. So fast, perfect answers. wasn't even close
Game 2 the complete opposite. I hit two fatal push and two balista and he pretty much couldn't win.
Game 3 was fairly close but ballista put in work and he couldn't recover

    RD2: Marionette master control
Game 1 i killed him turn 5. was so fast, he couldn't stop it
Game 2 he had enough to do like 32 on board when he dropped master. I had kept out gaining him in life with the harvester and he had to keep delaying a turn every time. Eventually i hit a gonti and found a contempt. that mixed with my own contempt sealed the deal.

    RD3: Merfolk (my cousin again)
Game 1 he had a slower draw and i was able to establish a board before he could kill me. I dropped a harvester and then put gearhulk counters on it. I went to 19 and he could only crack back for 17 after a fatal push and i killed him next turn.
Game 2 I drew 3 pushes in 3 turns and had a snake t2 and a rishkar after that. Was a stomping.

Like $400 in store credit in three weeks. Might just buy into modern.

This is what I am hoping to try out at fnm. I went with a lower curve to fit the 20 land build to add a couple more spells. Last tournament I played was 20 years ago. I am sure the side board needs work and the main deck too.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be a great help.
    Thanks

My cousin has been cleaning up with a 'go wide' merfolk approach.
    Simililar to you except.
    -4 Branchwalker
    -3 jade bearer
    -1 unsummon
    +1 Mist-Cloaked Herald
    +2 Blossoming Defense
    +4 Jungle Pioneer
    +1 metallic mimic

He has stomped every top teir deck at our shop.

Went 4-0 on tuesday with my list. I haven't changed much except sideboard based on my meta

    Round 1: Esper Control
He really could do enough to handle all the threats. He played a gearhulk with no targets and I had a contempt in hand. He died turn 6. Game 2 was more of game one. Him taking tons of damage and just drawing cards with nothing substantial to gain.
    SB:
    -4 Push
    +4 Duress
    -2 rishkar
    +2 Journey to Eternity

Round 2: Artist Formally known as Rumunap Red
Game one he had me at 4 by turn 4 and ran outta gas. I slowly came back with an aethersphere harvester with 4 gearhulk counters on it. He'd deal 7, i'd gain 7 and i'd be safely at 1 life. he never drew any help. Game 2 I absolutely got smoked. Curved out and had me dead on turn 5 without any real hope. Game three i kept a hand with hashep oasis and aether hub. I only had one creature, branchwalker. I hit the land and was able to push two khenra's and curved out and smashed his face.

    SB:
Not a darn thing, deck is already solid vs red

Round 3: my cousin playing merfolk
Game 1 he got me to 8 and i played 3 push, 2 chups and a contempt. Finally had a ballista with a snek. Game 2 i was able to get another push t1, snake turn 2, push and branchwalker turn 3 and chup turn 4. Turn 5 was a ballista with a blossoming defense up and he had nothing left of merit. He beat me last week for the win so i was a little more prepared.

    SB:
    +2 yahenni's expertise
-2 rishkar (i end up trading aggressively so he can't get a board set up so rishkar is a dude with no guys)

    Round 4: Sultai Snake
Game 1 I had been on the offensive and smashing him. I was at 16 and he was at 9. I gearhulked on turn 5 and hit him for 8. I had a couple other guys out. Made two 5/5's and one 3/3. on his turn, he blossoming defensed his gearhulk that was a 6/6 already and hit me with hadana's climb that i forgot about. 16 flying. I coulda forced a block if i woulda made two 6/6 and left the 2/2 as is. He woulda been at 2 instead of 1 but had no creatures on the field. Bone head move i know. Game 2 i smashed him. T2 snake, it died, his t2 snake died. i played another and had branchwalker, rishkar, ballista push and gearhulk in my hand. was fast. Game 3 he had me on the ropes. I had lost my pushes to a lost legacy (weird i know) but i had board advantage. Hostage taker took my snake and left me with two smaller creatures that would only get in for 2 at best. I attacked and baited him into easy blocks. He did and i Yahenni's and cleared his board cause of that. Got my snake, played one with yahenni's and played a ballista ftw.
    SB:
    +2 yahenni's expertise
+1 naturalize (i casted this on his hadana's climb game two and he had a heroic intervention in hand and absolutely still won me the game. He saved that and lost two creatures next turn)
    +2 gonti
    -2 siphoner
    -1 gearhulk
    -1 skysoverign
    -1 branchwalker

I'd have jadelight ranger in the main in place of the harvester but i dont wanna pay 15+ for a rare that will be 3-4 in a few weeks. He's not a must have for me.
Won $100 in store credit and bought 6 flooded strands and paid for next tuesday's tournament in advance.

Rhonas is that guy i always hold and hold and hold until i need to give one of my guys trample for the win. He could be an enchantment 99% of the time. I currently dont have one in the deck, but I have had a few instances where I wish I had. Mostly he was good against whirler virtuoso and now that he doesn't seem to be in every matchup, rhonas doesn't seem as important.
I do think i'd like to slot in 1 or 2 thrashing brontodon's in the deck. Maybe take one one branchwalker and one gearhulk.

Yea, I streamlined my list. Works much better now. I musta just been keeping bad hands against his great hands. Stomped him today.

    @simto
I usually only pull him in vs G/r monsters and some of the other midrangey decks.

i didn't look at any mtgo lists. i don't even know where to look for that. i had a different list and my friend suggested some other cards. maybe he did but i'm not sure.
I wouldn't judge anyone for getting ideas anywhere.

Wizards posts them somewhere, but if you are interested you can go to mtggoldfish.com->decks->metagame and a sampling of 5 mtgo competitive 5-0 lists per day is on the right. Yesterday's includes this sneky goodness.

wow that list is similar to mine. i wonder if that's where my friend took his ideas. thanks, hoser2!

i went 1-2 yesterday at FNM. I think i could have gone 2-1 but missed a trigger cause i didn't understand how jadelight ranger worked. our place is super chill and my buddy tried helping out but my opponent was being a huge rules lawyer douche. it tilted me a little (nothing that i really got upset about).

anyway, i beat RB pirates in round 1. round 2 was path to mettle. that deck is real and really hard to beat, especially with a lot of x/1s in our list. round 3 was the mirror and it was super close until that misplay i did.

i really like the deck. i felt like i needed green mana more but i also felt flooded (i guess that's what happens with no attune!). i'm gonna keep working on it but it's a lot of fun.

I’m running a similar list too. It’s ok but has no reach. I agree with dray that the ripjaw is underwhelming. I’d always rather have hydra in that situation. Even Gonti. I’m having a lot of issues with those new flip enchantments. They require a lot of playing and I don’t think they are good

I mean, did you really build this or did you just take it card for card off of the mtgo results page? I’m not judging, just a timely coincidence?

I've got some more feedback with the explore way (which may warrant another thread, but I'm no primer maker) :

Enter the Unknown is too low-impact, even though it's fine to do WG Walker / Constrictor > Enter. I cut them for Tomb Robber which I though would be whatever, but it actually ends up being a very impressive mana sink and an easy replacement ! Once I untap with it, I have 3/4 mana to spend on it, then either grow it ala Pack Rat, gaining up to 12 life if a WG Walker is here to watch, or filtering lands and spells to sculpt my hand. It happens to be a very nice target for Climb, and efficient at filtering dead removal spells in hand VS control.

Blossoming Defense was cut because I have to few times open mana to protect an early threat. Either too many lands etb tapped, or I don't have that extra land at all. I think Duress should be a more proactive way to protect my threats, and then help explore accordingly.

Walk the Plank is here because that's how I set up my heavy-black decks so far : 4 Push + 2 Plank + whatever available in the other colors. It's real hard to trigger revolt on Push... :/ Maybe Chupadog is the way to complete the Pushes.

Not sure on Rishkar as a 1-of, and I don't want to run 4 Robbers either for now, it looks like it's bad in multiple.

I feel that tomb robber guy is terrible. Rather have anything besides that. Why no V gearhulk?
