I almost suggested the rest of the fast mana suite, but realized that they require colors in the deck to be of use. I really struggle to think of anything I believe I would do better.

You'd have to work very hard and probably counterproductively to brew a list that doesn't resemble others on the net, because commander-oriented legends these days practically come with a deck-list included. I mean, I built my Endrek Sahr from scratch, but it shares about 25% in common with the average Endrek list according to EDHRec, where basics either don't count or don't benefit from multiples because otherwise I should be over 50%, I think. Now, it's a mono black list and it doesn't run any tutors, and it doesn't run Sol Ring and the like. Your mana base is 40% and probably homogenous across the color identity, and after that, just throwing in the obvious cards you picked your commander to play (and odds are, great minds think alike) and well, you'll be lucky to look half-way original if you're willing to sacrifice across the board staples like mana rocks and AAA answers.

I'll throw Endrek Sahr, Master Breeder into the mix. It's been a pet deck for years. Here's a link to the current iteration in the multiplayer forums, and underneath it, Salvation's deck maker.

Liliana is probably the least likely walker to die because that's what they want you to think by putting it in the trailer.

When I post decklists, I'm not entirely sure what I even want. I pick every card very particularly, and for a host of reasons aside from effectiveness, so I can't pretend to be particularly open to suggestions. I don't often critique other lists because I assume others are the same way.

I've always thought Endrek Sahr, Master Breeder was particularly well made in terms of telling a story and representing a character on a card. He doesn't, however, allow much diversity in terms of deck construction in contrast to the other characters mentioned above. On the contrary, few cards so explicitly spell out what your deck is going to have to do as he does.

If you can, just run both. When I built Endrek Sahr, Master Breeder, I threw in every available mana multiplier, because I want to see at least one a game.

In my case, besides the lens, I run them because my choice for "pimping out" my Endrek Sahr, Master Breeder deck wasn't foils, but first printings. I can't really justify paying for 30 or so alpha swamps, but I had no trouble buying Ice Age snow-covereds. I used to run Withering Wisps, but began getting more and more anal about honoring up to date concepts of the color pie, and I believe such an effect is actually red, where Pyrohemia, the colorshifted variant, is the best of the bunch. My arbitrary deck construction rules are getting out of hand.

You need a color identity with a long track record of hating on black -- like white. When putting together the cards for your deck, you'll want to come up with broad categories that every deck needs, and fill them with the cards most unsuited for said needs. Once your deck is complete, remove cards that don't do what you need in a game, but never replace them. At most, put a basic land in its place as an acting position.

Flip Chandra was the option I was looking into because she has a Phoenix.

Tryhard is, to me, what Commander is all about, by both definitions, but I'm more about whimsically pursuing fundamentally sound approaches.

I’m currently running both Vesuva and Thespian’s Stage in Endrek Sahr, Master Breeder, which runs both Cabal lands, Nykthos, and Crypt of Agadeem as part of its big mana secondary strategy. To date, they haven’t actually copied any of said cards. I copied a swamp once.

So to redirect the conversation, regardless of whether MLD, board wipe, etc is effective or fun, what are the best color(s) for this deck archetype and what generals seem viable?

Red and White excel at MLD, M anything D, for that matter.

It wasn't too long ago that the Eldrazi, the other recurring archnemesis, were more or less indefinitely taken care of. I could see an outcome where Nicol Bolas is indefinitely taken care of -- sealed away or incapacitated in a way that the story can leave him alone for a while and when the time comes, becoming archvillain again would require an Ob Nixilis style storyline. I, too, would rather not continually dwell on the gatewatch crew and Bolas.

I understand your position, but I don't feel like I play in a blowout combo meta. It was just the paradigm I walked into at my LGS; to pack extra hollowpoint bullets but hold them until we're bored of fireworks. Dunno why it's like that, dunno who started it.

But after a couple years, you figure out how other people play and play what you know is acceptable and effective.

P.S. I wouldn't really want to play against you either (despite the vast statistical unlikelihood and my appreciation for you as a regular poster). A picture of Pheldagriff is what you'd really find if you shaved Damien Thorn's head and that's one satanic migraine I would merrily avoid.
Oh? What's so bad about Phelddagriff? Have you actually played against someone's version of my deck, or did you just look at the thread and decided it sounded too Machiavellian for you to stomach? Or do you just think the actor has a familial resemblance to a badly-drawn flying hippopotamus?

Anyway I don't play Phelddagrif every game, he's more my competitive (or at least anti-competitive) deck. It works best when the field is badly balanced (especially when someone shows up with a cEDH deck to an otherwise casual group, since I can easily take them down a peg), but is also totally safe to play even in a purely casual meta. More commonly I'm playing whatever my flavor-of-the-week commander is, though. I've got a pretty bad case of EDHD, sometimes I make several decks a week when I'm really into it.

I think if I were in your group I'd want some pretty firm rules on when combos were "allowed". As long as you have a well-established rule, then you can still try to solve the puzzle within that problem space. That said, I probably still wouldn't run them since I find them a boring way to end a game. But I'd want to know that the other players are playing to win, within whatever version of the rules they're playing by.

I used to play Magic with a Pheldagryff guy fairly regularly, and he was pretty much Purple Man/Killgrave from Jessica Jones at the multiplayer table. Players followed his suggestions like they were orders, against all semblance of self interest. It was unreal.
