Oct 17, 20174th Reejerey could be ok, but maybe Copter or Kira are better replacements. I feel like I draw enough Reejerey frecuently enough to not justify the forth slot. And Flying can be very relevant. I'm probably switching Kopala for a copter and go from there.Posted in: Aggro & Tempo
Oct 17, 2017Yeah I thought the same about BW but it turns out that between vials and 12 sources of deck manipulation I got away with it. Banchwalker seems to be at its best in this matchup. Since having a lord on board and a +1/+1 counter means that you can attack through thalia or trade with a TKS while digging for more gas or a spreading seas.Posted in: Aggro & Tempo
Oct 17, 2017Posted in: Aggro & TempoQuote from FANAttIC »How is Kopala doing in everybody's UG? Every game I saw online and irl it did nothing and was awkward and unneeded.
It has a place in "regular" 4 Waves.dec, though.
Exactly this. It feels like a creature that you want to see in the first turns, but in the low numbers that we are using it, we usually end up with him in our hands in mid/late games where kira is usually just better.
Oct 17, 2017Hey guys, yesterday I made a 5-0 in a competitive league with UG Merfolk.Posted in: Aggro & Tempo
This is the deck:
2-1 Jeskai Tempo (Version with Geist of Saint Traft, Spell Queller and lots of removal and counters)
2-0 BG Tron
2-0 Jeskai Tempo again
2-0 BW Eldrazi & Taxes
2-1 Naya Burn
Deck ran smoothly, it feels like playing mono blue but with a much faster game in the early turns. Draw Kopala a few times and got to cast it only once, not much to say really, Kira would have been much the same. Sided Natural state against BW Taxes and didn't draw it.
Speaker and Branchwalker definitely helped racing Jeskai and Burn, being able to trade with goblin guide and closing out the games a turn earlier is a big deal. Didn't miss Master of Waves, didn't need him save one game of the 5 played against Jeskai in whitch it would have pushed the last points of damage through red removal, but it would have been stonewalled either by a Queller or a collonade at that point...
Sep 8, 2017Hi, I've started to brew a similar deck in monowhite and thought that it would be nice idea to give it a twist and figued that all these PW could be a good source for devotion.Posted in: Deck Creation (Modern)
My idea revolves around 4 Leyline of Sanctity and some amount of Runed Halo and Oath of Gideon in the main deck paired with Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx. You could take some freewins with leylines on the maindeck and ocassionaly power out 2 PW in early turns.
Can anyone please talk me out of trying this?
On more serious matters, the black splash for Lingering souls and discard as showcased in mtggoldfish seems quite promising.
Aug 1, 2017Posted in: Aggro & TempoQuote from rothgar13 »Nicely done making it to top 8! And great job of reading your local meta - Unified Will definitely seems like the way to go, given what you faced. Sounds like you got a bit unlucky against Jeskai Control - it happens. The CounterBurn variant that you faced (which can be identified by the fact that it maindecks Spell Queller) is definitely a bit more challenging to face than the more reactive ones that just hang back the whole game.
Indeed the counterburn.dec proved to be quite tricky and I wasn't sure how to play against it. Do you have any recomendations?
Jul 31, 2017I made it to top 8 in a local PPTQ with 50 people. Finished 2nd after swiss rounds with a 5-1 record but couldn't make it past quarter finals.Posted in: Aggro & Tempo
This is the list I took:
DeckMagic OnlineOCTGN2ApprenticeBuy These Cards Creatures
4x Silvergill Adept
4x Harbinger of the Tides
4x Master of the Pearl Trident
4x Lord of Atlantis
3x Merror Reejerey
2x Kira, Great Glass-Spinner
3x Master of Waves
2x Smuggler's Copter
4x Aether Vial
4x Spreading Seas
2x Cavern of Souls
2x Wanderwine Hub
1x Minamo, School at Water's Edge
1x Oboro, Palace in the Clouds
3x Ceremonious Rejection
3x Gut Shot
3x Relic of Progenitus
2x Unified Will
1x Echoing Truth
This are the decks I faced:
Round 1: Skred 2-0
Round 2: Affinity 0-2
Round 3: Titanshift 2-1
Round 4: Titanshift 2-1
Round 5: Esper Goryo's Vengance 2-0
round 6: Burn 2-0
Jeskai Control 0-2
I didn't take any notes so I'm going to give some overall thoughts.
I expected some numbers of titanshift and Gx Tron in the meta, that's why unified will is in the deck instead of negates and boy they did payoff facing Titanshift twice in a row and countering a couple titans.
Smuggler's copter did tons of work dodging warths and digging for answers while dumping extra vials/lands, also acted as a wall against burn.
Echoing truth was useful against Esper Goryo bouncing 2 Obzedat, ghost council giving me an extra turn for the win.
Countermagic was really usefull in most combo/control matches, unified will acted as counterspell the whole tournament.
The Jeskai list ran 4 copies of spell queller and 4 snapcaster mage with few wraths. Game 1 was a close match but couldn't deal with a full playset of quellers and tons of burn. Game 2 I didn't have much luck, never managed to really establish a clock and was flooded with no caverns or vials to at least sneak in a couple creatures past countermagic.
Never managed to draw Ceremonious rejection or Gut shots in game 2 against affinity but I know they can be sufficient due to online testing.
Echoing truth felt more versatile and useful than dismember at least in this tournament I am willing to test it main deck as some other posters suggested. I will definitely keep the 2 copters in the mainboard.
Aug 26, 2016Is anyone doing some kind of testing? i'm willing to pick up the deck for the funs but i'd like to know also how are it's matchups against actual top tier decks. And which are the conventional builds? Naya Coco + 4 Vials seem to be the standard build.Posted in: Deck Creation (Modern)
Mar 18, 2016SOI spoiler!Posted in: Deck Creation (Modern)
Creature - Human Soldier
When Thalia's Lieutenant enters the battlefield, put a +1/+1 counter on each other Human you control.
Whenever another Human enters the battlefield under your control, put a +1/+1 counter on Thalia's Lieutenant.
Could it be playable in our deck?
Jan 31, 2016Well... you are missing infect, I've played some pre board matches against it and won only 1 out of 6 games. It is very hard to outrace infect. You really need either spellskite or melira, sylvok outcast. Maybe i'm just playing it the wrong way, but it felt really tough.Posted in: Deck Creation (Modern)
On a side note, what are you guys running post twin ban in the sideboards?
Jan 28, 2016Against ensnaring bridge you could have some amount of qasali pridemage in the side besides the common artifact removal spells.Posted in: Deck Creation (Modern)
I've been running 2 Gideon, ally of zendikar and 2 return to the ranks in the side for the attrition based matchups like BGx and Grixis control and been really good. Captain's claws could have the same role in the side but I don't think that its CMC justify switching gideon for them. And on the main they just seem off curve, I would prefer casting kabira evangel, Firemantle mage or Lantern scout.
I'm running 2 firemantle mage main and he has been really good to push extra damage, sometimes you can cast him before evangel to lure removal towards him and next turn slam an evangel.
Have anyone considered testing reckless bushwhacker? I would like him as 5-7th Battlesinger.
Jan 11, 2016I've been playtesting with Reckless bushwhacker and it has been really good as a 5th and 6th battlesinger. It opens to really explosive lines of plays. It also gives more value to those vials and envoys that we topdeck. It may work as a 2 or 3 of.Posted in: Deck Creation (Modern)
Jan 7, 2016I've found this list: http://www.mtggoldfish.com/archetype/modern-naya-allies-23444#paperPosted in: Deck Creation (Modern)
It made a 5-0 on a modern league. What do you think guys? It doesen't have either vials or hardened scales.
