So far I have only played about 7 games online with U/W Merfolk build similar to what Nikachu ran on his YouTube channel. All were for prizes (8 man event or 2 tix 1-on-1), so no casual games. Differences
Sideboard:
-2 Ghostly Prison : It was nice seeing Nikachu use this for a solid win in a game, but I feel it is so limited in the format.
+2 Spell Snare : Works well against Boros Burn, Affinity, the mirror, and a ton of other decks. Just a great card. You could argue for Mana Leak or Spell Pierce and I would probably agree based on local meta.
I really like the U/W version and plan on taking it to several GP Vegas trials coming up in early May. Till then I will refine it online and get a better feel for it. Seachrome Coast never really factored in...when it came in tapped it wasn't like I needed it on a turn 4 Master of Waves, however my sample size is small.
Nikachu - Re: Your U/W Build. How do you feel about the 2x Flooded Strand going forward? Do you feel it is enough or will you increase to 3 or 4 and remove something like a Seachrome Coast?
Just wondering what people prefer. I know Chain of Vapor, and not Void Snare, is the time tested choice, but in a mirror match where we both hit our Leyline of the Void in games 2 or 3, do I really want my opponent to be able to bounce mine as well? Is there something I am missing other than the instant speed (which I know is important)?
Main Deck
-2 Phantasmal Image : seems really bad with Wanderwine Hub, Merrow Reejerey ability and of course Silvergill Adept
+2 Tidebinder Mage : helps with all the tribal cards and the Boros match-up in game 1 is still rough and I want every edge I can get.
