Then im easily the unluckiest magic player in the world... I think out of around 20 games, i drew the elf in opening hand, 2 or 3 times, never hit it on a mulligan...

Im not disagreeing with Caryatid, just creating discussion is all.

I wish there was a way to get more value out of our discarding. Either way, the deck is still very fun and seems incredibly solid (aside from the fact that it dominated over the weekend)

A guy that plays FNM at my local spot brought "this" deck. Though he was using Tormods crypt with Days, which is a must IMO, alos used grind clock and a few other deals, i think he went 2-2 or 3-1.

Oh, i know ive missed a couple pages of discussion or missed a couple posts here and there. But Collected Company feels stupid in this deck, stupid good. In one play test, dude attacks, i respond with collected company and hit Flashbag and Merciless lol. boop boop haha

after messing around with the build that won over the weekend, i've been wondering about the elvish as well. only issue i could see, is i think you really want to be casting wayfinder on turn two? seems the quicker you start loading the yard, the quicker you get too the money.

    I'll report back.

Im Jax04 from above, didnt know i had two screen names. Sorry about that.

I was able to combo 1 time in 9 rounds played. I lost 0-3 before dropping.

I plugged Jace in my build becuase i saw the work he did with the tokens and thought he could only help me. Well, i'll admit this, he did help me, the one time i combo'd was off him with the tormod's crypt (which is the method i use, the mill method). I took the deck down once i got home that night. I probably made some bad plays, i hadnt played the deck in so long, but i felt like i was doing the right stuff, i had mana issues all night as well, probably got my mana base wrong to be honest. I still use Tiagams Scheming, which seemed nice with Jace. Id look at five and then put one back if i wanted it, and would activate jace to draw it if i needed it then. Which coincidentally is how i combo'd off. but seemed like everyone had what they needed to shut me down that night. Like i said, i probably miss played a bunch.

Being gone so long, i missed thousands of cards, now i have to spend hours on MTG Search to find cards that achieve what im looking for lol. I remember playing Rally and going like 2-2 and spent days on mtg looking at "enters the battlefield" triggers lol

Search parameters/filters are your friend when using Gatherer or any other MtG card database.

absolutely, sure does make perusing and idea much much easier.

well there is one thing to take away from this last weekend, he definitely built a more streamlined and more directed version of tickals build.

Lacco, i think starting off with the list from this last weekend will help you in the building. its solid and proved to be quite resilient.

Husk and Grim were what i was looking for months ago when i played the Gary/Rhino version. I suffer from lack of card base knowledge. being gone so long, i missed thousands of cards, now i have to spend hours on MTG Search to find cards that achieve what im looking for lol. Tormods crypt seems like a no brainer paired with Days undoing in my opinion. But hey thats me. Plus with the multitude of graveyard tricks....

At FNM with my Sphinx deck, i side boarded in a bunch of counter magic, and mastery and mentor. I won that 2-0, it was esper dragons. He boarded in vault on game two and i let him play with counter magic in hand. By that time we both had a bunch of mana, he popped the vault before my upkeep and i proceeded to play mastery and mentor and pass the turn, ran him over with tokens and counter magic. Not sure that this stratevy would work here, my deck was a tad different, i ran mindreaver and sphinx and spells galore. That guy normally does well with Esper there too. But he couldnt answer it with blue/black control.

  • posted a message on wonder if anyone can help locate or come up with a few decklists from Urza's Block and back...
    Howdy,

Ive recently gotten back into magic and wanted to play/proxy, some older decks that i can remember playing long ago. The few that stick out to me the most (man do i wish i still owned these cards), and trying to find the list's, but not having much luck over the last two months. The last set i played was Mask. So these lists contained Mask and back.

***Turbo Lands, I remember using Fearie Conclave and Tree-top village and i'm pretty sure infinite turns.

***Bargain, but i've been able to locate that one, all urza and back list.

    ***Rising Waters

***and last but not least, Infinite squirrels, i remmeber using cradle, and derranged hermit, but thats about all i can remember. I've looked online and found later versions, call me nostalgic lol, just trying to remember what we did back then.

  • posted a message on I Just wanted to tell everyone on this board, Thank you! This new standard... wow
To all of you that contribute new and innovative ideas, to existing archetypes and to new ones being brewed and submitted for feedback each day, Thank you!

The knowledge base on this forum and the willingness to explore new ideas and help those of use who just like to brew no matter the consequence, thank you!

I have to admit, with the new set, it feels like home again, and the people havent changed one bit, and its been very fun to get back into this multi-generational game and explore new and OLDish ideas that have been re-invigorated with the latest sets.

Thank you to all of you in this forum!

I certainly wont disagree with that. Im just to the point where im trying different things to answer the problems i've ran into in the last 6ish weeks or whatever, of testing, I've been testing sphinx mill strategies since it was spoiled, im a lover of the mill as well. Probably my favorite strategy.
