@racerxen I had the exact same experience with Goggles myself. It was fun while it lasted, but now it feels like more traditional ramp is better suited to take down this planeswalker heavy meta. I built around this recent 2nd place finish by Joshua Dickerson as a shell for my current build: http://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/416879#paper . Joshua Dickerson also is the one who took 1st a month ago and brought Jaddi Offshoots and Renewals maindeck - here he made some subtle changes - Offshoots to the side since there's far fewer aggro decks, and fewer Renewals as well. I've really been liking Tireless Tracker lately and not liking 4 Ulamogs, so my changes to his recent list linked above was -1 Ulamog, -2 Hedron Archive (4 is too much for me) for +3 Tireless Tracker. Diversifies our threats a little more and opens up some sideboard slots (SB -2 Tracker for +1 Atarka and +1 TKS is what I'm trying for now).

I've been keeping up on deck changes and make overs, have you all checked out Sam Black's Duskwatch Ramp? Any thoughts on this going smaller build?

Like you, I've also been playing a lot of RG Goggles Ramp lately. I was liking it at first as a breath of fresh air with lots of new lines to explore. But lately the metagame has become heavily saturated with GW Tokens and control decks made to beat GW Tokens. I haven't been finding the Goggles as good lately.

Sam Black/Justin Cohen's Naya Ramp is very real. I've played against it and gotten crushed multiple times. I've also just started to pick it up lately and it feels really strong in this meta. The threats are so varied and there's so many ways to get to them with Oaths, Duskwatches, and clue cracking from Tireless Trackers. Dragonlord Dromoka has been fantastic as well. Until the meta shifts again, Naya Ramp is where I'm at. The stock 75 I'm running with:

I haven't made any adjustments to it as I've only recently started to play it. Just a very strong solid deck. I also like how it feels different than traditional ramp, but still operates on the same axis. Oath of Nissa always hitting something you want is great too.

Good to hear Darksch81 had a good run with the deck recently. I was having good success with it a while ago (as mentioned in my local GPT write-up), and just shelved the deck for a short time while Bant Company and Humans became super dominant (played RG Ramp and RG Goggles ramp in the meanwhile). Now that GW Tokens has established itself as the new "deck to beat", the meta is filled with GW Tokens decks and control decks aiming to beat tokens. I feel like Mono R Eldrazi is a good choice in this upcoming meta. Reality Smasher and Vile Aggregate get through tokens chump blocking for days, and the sideboard gives access to more flyers to go over them as well. Additionally, the amount of haste and difficult to deal with threats along with TKS disruption, makes Mono R Eldrazi have a strong matchup vs Control as well. Just hope to dodge a lot of Bant Company and Humans.

    My current 75 I'm testing:

Not much of a change from my GPT run of the deck. I have a 4th TKS in the main, and I cut my roasts from the SB to put in another Goldnight Castigator and Endbringer. Endbringer I used to have in my SB before this set to bring in for grindier matches as well as tokens decks. Here it is again for another way to constantly ping away tokens or take away loyalty from planeswalkers. What do you think of Endbringer in this GW tokens / control heavy meta?

I like Kozilek as a 1-of for threat diversification, but just in the sideboard against control decks.

Does anybody here have a lot of experience with the WW matchup? I have an easier time with Goggles ramp against, while regular ramp seems very draw dependent even with 4 Offshoots and all the Sweepers in the world. If you don't draw them in the right order at the right time you're probably dead. I'm leaning towards Goggle Ramp for this weekend, but the GW Token matchup has me worried. Does anyone have any ideas how to tackle it?

Tokens is a tough matchup for Goggles Ramp and even traditional ramp to a lesser degree. I'm not sure how to best play the matchup (as a fellow Goggles player as of late). Also not sure if the MB should be adjusted slightly or just the SB for it. Even if you for instance T3 K-return their tokens during their turn, you usually will not have a way to hit their planeswalkers on your following turn. It still put K-return in the grave and slowed them down a little at least, but you really need to recur it with Worldbreaker, DLA them, or Fall of the Titans surge on them to survive. Not to mention they can just Dromoka's Command to prevent damage from Fall of the Titans / regular K-return (the 5 damage recurred version they cannot prevent though). I'm thinking 1 SB slot dedicated to either Devour in Flames, Exquisite Firecraft, or even Newlamog to help with the matchup (I've seen a few go for a 1-of Ulamog, but I find getting to 10 mana difficult with this deck - especially if we're siding out slow cards like Hedron Archive that would ramp us to 10 vs Tokens).

Played the RG Goggles list with very minor changes to the FNM tonight. Round 1 went 2-0 vs Grixis Control. Round 2 went 2-0 vs Esper Control. Round 3 went 1-2 vs GW Tokens (not sure what to do with that matchup - I drew fairly well but still lost). Round 4 went 2-0 vs Mono W Humans. Felt really good about how the deck played out. I could have even won against GW Tokens if I hadn't miscalculated my mana on a turn.

What I like most about the goggles list is it's a major change from the linear RG Ramp gameplan. There's a lot more lines of play that just make it a lot more interesting to me. It also is more difficult to hate out - Transgress and Obliteration don't take away Fall of the Titans for instance. I've also been playing the deck online for a few games and doing well there too. GW Tokens is the toughest deck for me to beat with it.

So I've been goldfishing a bit with the 4 Ulamog SCG standard list and it feels horribly clunky. I draw a lot of awkward hands with only big spells and no ramp at all. Has anyone else tried this list? I'm thinking of maybe cutting 1 Ulamog and 1 Renewal for a couple hedron crawler for more ramping. I don't think 4 pilgrimage and 4 veggies are consistent enough to ramp us to the critical 6 mana for either Chandra or Renewal by turn 4 or 5.

I've played it about 50 matches now. It is somewhat inconsistent, but has huge plays to get back in the game so it hasn't been a huge deal (winning far more often than not). With that said, I do like your idea of helping the earlier ramp while cutting a little of the top-end. Worth trying.

I ran pretty much the exact same 75 as that pilot, except I went -1 Ulamog for 1 Conduit of Ruin (only had 3 Ulamogs), and I replaced the 2 Warping Wail in the sideboard for a 2nd Conduit and a Void Winnower (just in case others jumped on the ramp train). It's a small event on Monday night, only running 3 rounds despite there being 20+ people - it's definitely a more casual one. Anyways, I went 3-0 and just faced aggro deck after deck and didn't even drop a single game. In every round I got to live the dream of Jaddi Offshoot -> play Land -> Nissa's Renewal -> gain 11 life. I also had a game of after Nissa's Renewal, chaining 3 Ulamogs thanks to Sanctum. I feel like this version of the deck is very well positioned in the current meta of humans and Bant Company. But others likely will notice this too, so I feel like there should be some trump cards for the mirror in the side like Conduit and Void Winnower (to make it easier to play before them).

Effort9 - thanks for the detailed post of your match ups. It appears you sideout Hangarback. That is typical in my games as well and I am wondering how good Hangarback even is at this point. Although in Red Eldrazi it is better because of PKN and Vile Aggregate.

Hangarback is one of my easy "not sure what else to take out" sideboard decisions. Everything except for quick aggro decks (which aren't plentiful at the moment) he can be sided out in. He doesn't apply much pressure and with the amount of exile removal in white right now, he also isn't so good vs many of the top decks. He still is useful in many matches where I end up winning with plays involving blowing him up (P+K, incidentally with Chandra or trading him in combat) to make many more creatures. Works terrific with Outnumber as well. I also have had a few games where I just wasn't going to win without just going for it and transforming my Abbey (and saccing a couple Hangarbacks in the process is gravy).

Roast I never even touched throughout the weekend. I can easily see shaving its slots (only bring it in vs the mirror anyways - and Obligators do fine there in the first place). Outnumber has been fantastic. For taking out Tithes I often end up doing it with a mix of Chandra -X for 1 or 2 and a Spatial Contortion or Outnumber for the remainder. That or I can end of turn crack Foundry of Consuls to get 2 more creatures on board, then Outnumber with hopefully enough creatures.

Not really feeling it with Burn from Within. Sorcery and upwards of 6-7 mana to kill some of the threats we want.

@Effort9 - cool dude. Tell us about your games against Bant Company and W/b Control.

I didn't take notes so I don't remember much detail. It might have just been WG now that I think about it. Never even saw a CoCo or Reflector Mage.

    vs Bant/WG Company?:
Game 1: He hard-cast a Den Protector T2, then played a morph (Raptor) T3. I Spatial Contortioned the morph. I don't remember exactly what played out here but he got an Avacyn and Duskwatch Recruiter out in the next few turns. I killed Avacyn with an Outnumber (she didn't flip). Then I had Reality Smasher and Chandra to close the game.

    SIDEBOARD
OUT: -1 Warping Wail, -1 Hangarback
IN: +1 Tears of Valakat, +1 Eldrazi Obligator (didn't feel like I needed to side in much here)

Game 2: I had an early Hedron Crawler into TKS and saw a hand of 2 Tireless Tracker, 1 Dromoka Command, 1 Avacyn. I exiled Avacyn (not sure if right or not, just didn't want to deal with her). He didn't pressure me any and I won through Reality Smasher or Aggregate and Chandra beatdowns again.

To be fair he either drew poorly or I completely misread what his deck was. Might have just been WG "good stuff" since I didn't even see CoCo or Reflector Mage. He had the typical shell otherwise.

    vs B/W Control
Game 1: Everything I played he exiled pretty easily, or after exiling he would use Wasteland Stranger to process and kill something else of mine. He kept making land drops and got Sorin down on T6. I couldn't get Sorin off the table and lost to his constant +1 activations. I remember one turn he plused Sorin to reveal Ob Nixilis so I take 5, then he played Ob Nixilis and -3 kills my Reality Smasher.

    SIDEBOARD
OUT: -4 Hangarback -1 Warping Wail
IN: +2 Goldnight Castigator +1 Akoum Firebird +2 Obligator

Game 2/Game 3: Details are very fuzzy here. Don't remember much. He did his usual remove my stuff as per W/B control usual. I won through some mix of Goldnight Castigator, Akoum Firebird, Vile Aggregate and Smasher. Games weren't even close in 2 and 3 - I had explosive draws and he couldn't deal with them all. Never saw a Languish. It was just stuff like T4 I play Castigator and attack, he then plays Gideon and +s to put it to 5. I top-deck the land needed to play Reality Smasher and kill his Gideon while hitting him again with Castigator.

I casually played vs W/B control (during a I.D. round since I wasn't doing anything else really) with a friend of mine earlier and he swept me 2-0 pretty easily there. He might have been playing a better tuned list, or the one I played in the Top 8 might have drawn poorly in games 2 and 3 while I drew well.

From what most people are saying Bant Company seems a very tough matchup. I don't have enough games in against it to say much. Hell, I'm not even that experienced with this Mono R deck.

I see Akoum Firebird in the sideboard, what matchup is that for?

It was mostly because I did not have my 3rd Goldnight Castigator yet. Any matchup where I want to increase my early pressure I brought Castigator and Firebird in. Akoum is close to an Ashcloud Phoenix impression with its recurring nature, though only 3 power is a bad tradeoff for more toughness. It's a worse version of Goldnight Castigator in most cases, but can be recurred in a pinch lategame (never came up for me - or I always declined it's trigger to use my mana elsewhere anyways)

I just came back from playing a local GPT and went undefeated with Mono R Eldrazi. Played vs Bant Company (2-0), Simic Part the Waterveil (2-0), Azorius Humans (2-1), W/B Control (2-1), and mono W humans (2-1). Split in the top 4. I've played the "mirror" vs RW Eldrazi and won 2-0 in a previous outting as well, so I'm not convinced that either the white splash is "basically free" or that it is definitively better than the consistency you get with mono R.

Played the Tuesday night standard at a small LGS with this 75 and went 3-0:

    Round 1 vs R/W Eldrazi
Game 1: I curve out faster and clear his board with Chandra then beat down with Chandra tokens and a few creatures.

    SIDEBOARD
    +3 Obligator, +3 Roast
-2 Hangarback, -1 Warping Wail, -2 Spatial Contortion, -1 Pia and Kiran

Game 2: I again curve out quicker than him though its a closer game. Not much to say really. We play stuff, my Ruins pumped by Aggregate/Smasher bigger than his (he had to cut utility lands for the white splash). I was able to sac my foundry for chump blockers while he couldn't afford to run so many Foundrys either.

In both games he either sequenced his land drops wrong or the tapped lands from Needle Spires were doing a number on him slowing everything of his down by an extra turn. Makes me still wonder how good the splash of White would be - it is not a free splash by any means.

    Round 2 vs Mono-G Ramp
Game 1: I get a turn 2 Hedron Crawler into T3 TKS and strip his only useful card. I Smasher next turn as well and he dies shortly after.

    SIDEBOARD
    -4 Hangarback, -2 Contortion
    +3 Obligator, +3 Goldnight Castigator

Game 2: I have a much slower start and he gets a Gaea's Revenge out which I just have no way of dealing with. He drops an Endless one for 7 which I was able to steal the following the turn with Obligator (can't steal Gaea), but he had an open Elvish Visionary to block. He also had a Rogue's Passage out so had lethal after a couple turns.

Game 3: I have a much quicker start with T2 Crawler into T3 TKS and T4 Smasher and T5 Chandra. Game ends right there.

Round 3 vs B/R Eldrazi Aggro
Game 1: He curves out way too quick and beats down hard. I don't manage to recover.

    SIDEBOARD
    +3 Kozilek's Return
    -2 Reality Smasher, -1 Thought-Knot Seer

Game 2 and 3: I play extremely cautiously and defensively until he's nearly out of cards then I gradually start swinging in. Slowly and steadily chipping away at him and leaving back 1-2 blockers every time. K-return gets him for a 3 for 1 in Game 3 as well.

Still really liking Mono-R Eldrazi. I have all the cards for the white splash now, but still going to stick with the consistency here for now.

It's not like we aren't going to be bringing in Rest in Peace and Stony Silence vs decks its good against just because they'll be bringing in enchantment removal. Or that we wouldn't bring Leylines in vs Burn because they're bringing in 4 Destructive Revelry, and similarly vs Jund having Maelstrom Pulse.

Budgetary reasons. Don't want to spend the $300+ to get 4 of them. Also the additional 4 fetches I run have a very similar effect - I don't get to draw a card directly from them, however I do make it slightly more likely my next draw will be something other than a land. Additionally, it makes it easier to get our basics out when anticipating a Blood Moon, and more fetches give us more chances to get one on the field uncracked early on in anticipation of an Edict effect to fetch the Dryad Arbor. So Canopy while a better card, isn't so much better I'm willing to shell out $300+ for them yet.
