How are folks finding 2HG at the prere?

I'm still thinking it seems really tough: Werewolves will be waaaaaay worse, so a large chunk of your pool is just bad. Has someone made them work well, or do you just play the ones that have good unflipped stats and if they ever flip then it's all upside?

Seems like most pools will end up with some really solid fliers+spirits across W and U, some solid madness in BRu, maybe good humans across W and G. So probably plenty of fliers, plenty of small-creature removal, but not a ton of fatties and not a ton of fatty removal.

    It's... it's... a strongly playable constructed card!

My playgroup has decided to severely nerf our environment. Smile We're only going to allow Theros onwards, standard-legal sets. (No Commander, Conspiracy. etc.)

Do any commanders jump out at you as super fun in this environment?

Does anyone have a deck that is already fairly close to this restriction?

    Curious to hear your thoughts!

Goblinslide seems a build around card to me. It will always come late, and if you picked up some Trumpet Blast and Rush of Battle then the advantage can build up.

Seems like a lot of work when you could just play a couple Ponybacks?

Read the Bones was SO GOOD. I'm going to have to see Bitter Revelation fail a lot to be convinced it sucks. It's 1 mana more than Read the Bones, but for a better effect.

Re: Goblinslide, the blue version seems a LOT better, but I haven't played it yet. (Tap target creature, doesn't untap.)

This deck looks super fun. Well... at least for me. I'm unsure if my playgroup will let it live more than a week. Smile

But still, I'm curious to hear if you have any updates, or even just talk about how it's playing out.

I'm putting together a Sygg along these lines, with a few tweaks to let me beat down if I want to. Coat of Arms seems better than Door of Destinies, since I don't really care about the symmetry-- I'm hoping to prot-from-color enough dudes to swing for lethal.

I assume Mana Drain is just missing due to cost.

Wanderwine Prophets seems like an auto-include, and I'm curious if there's a reason it's not in the deck other than getting overlooked.

And at that point, you probably want Lightning Greaves?

The other big combos already in the deck aside from Stonybrook Schoolmaster+Intruder Alarm+tapper are:
    Reveillark+Body Double+Mirror Entity+ ? (Venser)
Turnabout+Sigil Tracer+ ? (Stroke of Genius, Schoolmaster, etc.)

I'm probably missing a couple combos, and a couple ways to use the infinite mana-- I need to look over the list more.

Since it's blue, there are practically infinite combos you can add. The deck already has so many combos it's probably unnecessary, but if someone wanted to go infinite with infinite combos:
Palinchron + Phantasmal Image + Stroke of Genius (I'm going to add Phantasmal Image just as a merfolk regardless, actually)
Mind Over Matter + Azami + ? (Beacon of Tomorrows maybe?)
Add Sensei's Divining Top to go with infinite mana combo, Magus of the Future, and...?

he fishes up so many important combo pieces.

One requirement of playing this deck is you absolutely have to make as many terrible puns as possible.

My playgroup has gotten very cutthroat and combo-oriented. So I want to introduce more blue, to at least kill the obvious nonsense-- Tooth and Nail entwined etc.-- while maintaing a good power level for myself but not necessarily going as combo-tastic as possible on my end.

My thought for this is Sygg, River Guide. A strong choice, plenty of combo potential but doesn't have to win that way. Sygg, River Cutthroat is stronger, but that's beside the point. Smile

I'm curious what folks think about updating Sygg, as well as any other general options I may have missed. (Criteria: blue, clunky, no green. Smile )

I saw some nice lists such as:
    http://www.mtgsalvation.com/forums/the-game/commander-edh/archives/217956-edh-sygg-river-guide
    http://www.mtgsalvation.com/forums/the-game/commander-edh/multiplayer-commander-decklists/206438-sygg-river-guide

They're great, but ancient. I'm wondering if folks have pointers on where to look for updates? Cyclonic Rift, for example, seems like a huge new addition. Not sure about TNN. Maybe just look through the StarCityGames, ChannelFireball, etc. lists of top EDH cards from recent sets? Any other ideas, for someone who hasn't been on top of the new EDH cards quite as much as he should have?

This sounds amazing. As someone who plays most of his magic via drafting (and the rest as EDH), this has me way more excited than BNG. Can't wait for this to come out.

    This is BNG/THS/THS, right?

In that case, "inspire enabler" is really only going to hit a few of your cards at best. Don't get me wrong, Springleaf is still nice.

Coincidentally, just the other weak I had a RW Anax heroic deck, and got wrecked by a black deck with Pharika's Cure and Hero's Downfall.

Obviously the Downfall is the great card in that lineup, but w/ the heroic deck I fear the Cure more than I fear the Phalanx. Wingsteed doesn't care about Phalanx, 3/4 Hoplites don't care, etc.

  • posted a message on good Theros overviews? Archetypes?
I'm drafting Theros with some folks who don't draft all that much, but still have a decent amount of Magic experience.

I want to find a way to catch them up on Theros draft in something closer to an hour than 10 hours. However, Theros seems quite deep!

The biggest shortcoming I've seen in the drafts so far is that folks don't understand the needs of their archetype. A big monstrous dude in a RW aggro heroic deck, or not picking the BB dude in their black devotion deck, or thinking Divine Verdict is just as good in any color combo, etc.

So: any great writeups on archetypes out there? Or just your own thoughts on them?

The best I've seen is on Wizards' site, which is good, but I'd love a non-Wizards take (http://www.wizards.com/magic/magazine/article.aspx?x=mtg/daily/ld/267).

I do this for Rise of the Eldrazi. It's inexpensive, pretty easy, and tons of fun. Do it.
