    Just a simple token variant.

Cookie Bonus points if you recognize the source of my inspiration.

If I had to guess, I'd say Tragic Poet or Amrou Kithkin, but I'd probably be wrong.

Anyways, this post is a placeholder for my entry for now. I'll have one up sometime tonight.

EDIT: My entry. (Almost forgot, lol)

Cut and fold, glue/tape the lower ring together so that the X's aren't visible. Be sure to cut the inner ring around Elspeth's art, (not the straight line at the bottom of her art though), and fold it up. 3D emblem anybody? Haven't had a chance to try it, so may or may not work, lol.

My entry for the contest (I hope you guys get it, lol):
Were my scanner not on the fritz I would provide a better image, but this cam pic will have to suffice:

EDIT: Also should note that this came as a "brainstorming" effort (haha) between ATW and myself. He thought of the raining brains, I wanted the zombie. Grin

    Hey guys,
I'm really interested into getting into altered art for cards IRL. Problem is, when I try to erase away the ink on the card ... nothing happens. I mean, there's nothing except the eraser shavings. I don't know how you guys are getting it to erase :/
I got a Magic Rub Sanford (like was suggested in the Wastelands tutorial) but it doesn't erase it at all.
    Any help?

This question has been asked many times, and the answer is always the same... The short answer is acetone. Erasers will do the trick, but it takes a lot of pressure and a long time. Acetone will quickly eliminate all the ink from the surface of the card or the area you haven't taped off (however, it takes a bit of skill and caution to use.) I'd definitely recommend you check out some of the other threads and posts on the issue before you dive headlong into using acetone.

I humbly submit a joke theme, with emphasis on online memes. The altered card could feature the occupants of the artwork altered to display that meme (such as Sarkhan Vol all firin his lazor) or the art could be completely replaced with a meme that fits well with the theme of the card (like replacing the art of Sage Owl with the "o rly?"/"ya rly" owls.) For this contest I'd definitely encourage breaking the frame like on Un cards. I've seen many meme based cards done over the years, and they're always pretty good for a laugh and get good responses so I thought I'd suggest it.

I am more upset that no one said anything about my sausage trophy on page 1.

But I did on page 3, lol. I totally want that trophy. Smile

Drama, drama, drama, drama. Why can't we all just play nice? Somebody liked your idea enough to want one of their own. Big whoop. CK didn't know about it, no surprise, thousands of cards are up in that thread. Your idea is immaterial (unless of course you extracted and physically mailed it to him...) and unoriginal (Alice in Wonderland, meh), but the person to put the actual effort into it was Galspanic. Is Gal upset? He says he's irked. If he wants to fight this fight, let him, if he doesn't, let it go. Like he said, no point causing himself problems here, and if there's no point raising a fuss, then it probably isn't that big a deal in the long run. What do you say Galspanic? Myself, I'd consider your word here final. Is it, or is it not, a big deal worth all the trouble of riling everyone up and going to extremes like trying to set up some crazy checklist system or something to keep from reusing ideas or being misled by users? (Not that that had been suggested, but how else are the commissioned going to be able to check every card? Check 19,000+ responses for a double?!)

PS- I really want that trophy... Grin

I want this card so bad, lol. I normally am not a big fan of cartoon alters, but this was just great, I loved that episode so much! Great work, and keep it up! Grin I humbly request more of the SP Superheroes and Villains, lol. :p

To the Masters posting their firsts: It might be a good idea for you just to start a new thread for this. Give everyone a post in it where they can add their first, best, favorite, and most recent to and it could kind of be a brief history of the altered artists that shows people where got your start and what you've become.

If people are that concerned about digital alterations being involved, you could always place restrictions like:
    1) No use of unaltered photography.
    2) Only your own work may be used (tineye would help us check this one.)
    3) If source images or elements are used, the links of those sources must be provided (again, tineye would help us check this in the case of logos, questionable elements, etc.)
    4) No use of unofficial card frames (FPM, etc.),

I don't see digital as being that big of a deal. Both require skill to make the final product worth looking at (I mean, anybody could pick up a brush or a stylus and go at it.) You can consider one harder than the other or vice versa, but ultimately neither one is easy for anyone without some degree of skill with that medium. I mean, come on, alters like CK's and yawg's would have zero issue in my opinion of competing with a digital alter. The only thing I'm hearing from those against digital alters being in the same contest is a resounding lack of confidence in the skill of the altered artists and the ability of those alters to compete with their digital counterparts.

I'd like to second DrStockholm's suggestion. I think something original is exactly what we need to start the contests with, and leaving it open to any common will allow people an incredibly wide range of selection for what artwork they want to re-envision.

Voted for Dark's. Why? Messy or not, it was more creative and they put more effort into it. No offense intended, but a burn mark on the existing red frame isn't that creative in my book.

Just out of morbid curiosity are there any female mods?

Now, now, if you aren't careful Drakantus and LogicX will be demanding some sort of reprimand against you for trying to hijack their informative thread. Probably beheading.

In all likely hood there's at least one female mod out there, or at least I would hope, but then again, Magic is a game largely dominated by males, so who knows.

@{mikeyG}: Keep up the snarkiness. I, and apparently Eskimo Rage as well, enjoy your abrasive and up front attitude in handling things.

Why do people take things so literally? You are a moderator doing a job, be professional, and practice the conduct that is expected from authority.

You're really asking this? You are taking quite literally what professionalism is for a mod based off of your own personal standards and those presented under the word "professionalism" in the dictionary. Their level of professionalism is determined by what works best for the mods and admins on this forum and how regular members react to it. Why would anyone want to be a mod if they aren't allowed to keep some of their personality too? Heck, they're not nominated for their potential professionalism, but how they acted as a regular member beforehand. I think as an owner, admin, or existing mod I would be disappointed if I modded up a user for who they are on the forum only to have them replaced by a robot.

Look, basically, not everything that every mod does is golden all the time, but they are human and allowed to act as such from time to time. I've watched some friends get modded up here and also people complain about them for being to harsh and robotic. Then they relax a little bit, try to be more human and they end up doing a really great job because they wind up being more approachable and human, something most users prefer to dealing with a hardass or a robot.

As a former mod at TCGPlayer who went the hardass route, I was hated across the VS boards. I didn't allow the users even the slightest leeway, and ultimately people got mad enough and just left. By the time I got over that and started relaxing, it was too late and I was voted out by the other mods who were already well relaxed and easy for users to approach.

What I'm getting at here, is take it from somebody who went your route LogicX, and found out the hard way it was wrong. MTGS's mods are some of the best I've ever come across, and comments, snarky or not, can be appreciated if people would just relax a little bit and see what they stem from. Most that I've seen were more smartallicky than offensive and in response to inappropriate, offense, rude, repetitive, or spammy posts. Honestly, how I am now, I'd respond the same way.

To the mods: Keep up the good work, and keep being human. Thanks. Smile
