If Event decks here were sold at $15 I would have gotten a few boxes already since Thunderbreak is selling at $8 here. One of the local game stores here cracked open all of their Event Deck allocations. Thunderbreak was sold out in 2-3 days.

Despite the $8 Thunderbreak I couldn't get myself to buy one though because the national distributor sells them at $28 (absurd since SCG sells them for only $20).

Not a bad deck per se but (1) you probably wont get your 20+ dollars return of value (2) there are too much Theros-block cards.

Yasova is alright in theory but in practice, the chances of you needing to acquire control over a creature with less power than Yasova is slim. You can make Yasova more useful by beefing it up with enchanments but I'm guessing it'll die even before you're able to rake in significant +1/+1 counters. Also, Yasova forces you to play Red.

You can definitely make it work but it's probably not worth the trouble. Since you're already presumably playing R/G you can deal damage in a much mor eefficient manner.

Secure the wastes is in one of the intro packs. Should I cancel my preorder of the card? I ordered a playset for $12

If you have no use for the other cards in the intropack, then you're better off buying a playset for $12.

Secure the wastes will definitely be a staple especially for Naya decks. $3/piece sounds reasonable for a rare staple.

Recent history also showed us that just because a card's in an intro pack doesn't mean that prices are going to go down. I believe there were 2x Magma Jets in one of the earlier intro packs yet the price remained at $1+ when it first came out.

Wow the R/G intropack isn't bad at all. For 9.99 you not only get two booster packs, you also get a Harbringer, two Savage Ventmaws, a dragon lord's servant and a draconic roar, all four cards very much playable in T1 (now or in the near future).

This card is extremely good for an uncommon. The card gives you SIX free mana until end of turn. Even if it's removed after two turns it would have alreayd paid you back the mana you spent.

This card would go really well with Polukranos, Stormbreath and Crater of Claws. Definitely a sleeper hit. I do think this was made uncommon for the sole reason that it's a six drop. If it were a five drop that gives back five mana this would immediately become a rare.

There has always been a lot of removal spells in recent Magic history.

That's already a given, hence the question is actually how much damage a creature can do in 2 or 3 turns before it is removed.

This isn't a bad card but Theros provides too many alternative for a 6-mana green drop. The thing with these dragonlords is that I don't think they were really meant to be T1 pieces, hence they were included as promos in PR packs.

Yeah but they could have chosen better rares. I think the BOTG deck was one of the better event decks they released in a while. It had desecration, pack rat and herald of torment (plus hero's downfall and four cacklers) all of which were key pieces of T1 mono black decks during that time. It was certainly the best since the 2012 event decks and the one with Hellrider.

Here i think thunderbreak will be the only T1 piece after Stormbreath rotates out.

Even if you have two of these I don't think you'll be anywhere close to competitive in a standard FNM. If you must stick to the parts, you would need a playset of Thunderbreak and Mistcutter and remove the "splash of blue" cards.

For the price of $25 I think Wizards could have done a whole lot better. For example, you could have added one thunderbreak regent, one polukranos, and two of the smaller R/G dragons.

The KoT event deck may be bad but at least there was a clear structure and synergy between the cards.

This event deck feels like a RDW where the fast red creatures were removed. Clearly the idea behind this deck is to get Thunderbreak and Miscutter out as soon as possible. Not exactly a bad structure for a Tier 2 deck but you'd certainly need a playset of each. Also you'd have to scrap all other creatures in favor of better R/G creatures,

This is a terrible event deck. The last R/G event deck was that of M2014 I think, and even that is better than this deck. Heck even a $25 R/G made solely from the Theros block is a lot better. The event deck failed to utilize the Tarkir block effectively and most of the cards came from the Theros block which would be out of play soon.

The Khans of Tarkir event deck is probably even better.

The only "semi" valuable cards here are Thunderbreak and the scry land. Both aren't even that expensive. People won't be buying a $20 event deck just to get both.

They probably could have saved the event deck by including a fetchland OR two Thunderbreak Regents and two Mistcutters but nada.

Event decks don't become valuable because the players already know what they're going to get. Compare this to the intro packs with boosters which gives buyers a chance to pull out a holo mythic. Obviously booster boxes are the best ones to collect but if you had to choose between the two i'd pick collecting intro packs over event decks.

A few months back a LGS had a complete set of the Worldwake Intro Packs. I was surprised that they were just selling it for $6. People probably didn't know it had a WW booster inside. I bought all and managed to sell all of them for $130.

I have the feeling this will be R/G.

A semi competitive R/G dragon deck is cheaper to build than a mono red or a R/B one. By making it R/G they can add bigger dragons since you have cheaper green mana accelerators.
