Has anybody tried Herald of anguish, out of the sideboard or even as a 1 or 2 of in the main? It goes perfectly with the plan we already have, being to flood the board with artifacts. Almost everything it does is relevant against both of the current massive decks. It also gives Collosi something to do the turn you "go off" and put a bunch on the board.
it really depends on how you build your deck, i mainly just sb 2 heralds. My deck for example is abusing the paradox engine so that I can generate x amount of mana to put out a large walking ballista and end the game that way.
I feel having less creatures in the maindeck generally causes the opponent to sideboard out most of their removal. Especially if they only see colossus in game 1.
I actually got my idea from @BDecandio7 about 1-2weeks ago on his twitter. So most likely mtggoldfish got it from him.
im still havent quite a bit of issues against mardu vehicles / gw aggro variants, not so much the vehicles part but the mass amount of weenies when i dont draw yahenni's expertise.
This is the deck I ran in a Standard scheduled event @ GP Vancouver yesterday, was supposed to be a 5 round swiss with cut to top 8. Ended up they made it 4 rounds with cut to top 8 because they thought it would end too late. Went 3-1 losing out to GW tokens in game 3 due to flooding out. The 3 games I won were all against GB.
I felt we needed some form of early removal for turns 1 and 3 where we either play nothing or play caravan with B up. Morbid curiosity is pretty nuts when you draw 11 off a turn 4 colossus, or even on turn 5, play paradox engine if you drew it in the 11 and win on the same turn with the mana stones and untapping and finally playing aetherflux reservoir. Or you can do the traditional route and play metalwork colossus on turn 4.
SB choices:
the tezzert's touch was mainly to counter saheeli cat if they get greedy and play saheeli on turn 3.
the scrap trawlers were just a last minute inclusion because i couldnt think of what else i wanted in the sb. They definitely were really fun cards when you sacrifice a colossus and another artifact to bring a colossus back from the graveyard, then you get to bring 2 artifacts with less cmc back from the graveyard.
Deck still gets hurt by transgress the mind, but with the abundance of mardu vehicles in the format GB cant afford to maindeck them so I generally steal the win in game 1. Games 2 depends on if they transgress me or not.
My current build with this after a few FNMs 2 gamedays. Will most likely be bringing this list to the RPTQ this weekend.
Havent played against a single rb amalgam, but that sb radiant flames will probably turn into a descent after tonight
powerlevel is through the roof compared to all the other small "3rd sets".
I consider this a 3rd set because its the only 1 that continues on to the last draft format and remains as a 1pack.
Personally i find it luck of the draw and what decks you face up to the point of top8.
In my recent PPTQ a 4c reanimator with sidisi and rhinos won. He never played against a single midrange deck, just aggro all day until top 8 where he played against midrange and control and had super close and grindy games.
In a GPT, the same 4c reanimator dropped after going 0-3, being matched up against abzan and temur midrange.
Been having a hard time against turn 2 savage knuckleblades, t3 polukranos against temur, how have your match ups been with them?
What would you sideboard in and out if lets say you already maindeck 3cuts 2 downfalls. Would you side in thoughtseizes too? What would you take out for them if lets say for example we're running the cookie cutter sidisi whip deck.
Would you ever cut caryatids or coursers?
Played a variation of firemind's list in a 5round standard event.
I gotta say the deck does surprisingly well, however if i ever mull due to having 0 lands, i tend to keep getting 0 lands.
I went 4-1, losing in the finals against abzan reanimator. That soul of theros is such a huge blowout. I had agent of erebos in sb for mirrors, but i never saw it in that game even though i was down to maybe 10 cards in my deck when i died to a soul activation on his empty the pits tokens
Might be a meta call, but at my lgs most of the rg monsters ran 2 sages maindeck, i was glad i shifted to 3 whips maindeck.
The retribution was a house against UW heroic, it permanently removed +1/+1 counters and because i did it 1 at a time, their protection spells were only stopped 1 counter.
2-0 against rg monsters
2-1 against mardu aggro *mostly because game 3 he manascrewed hard*
2-0 against uw heroic
2-0 against cookie cutter sidisi *dictate of erebos won this game hands down*
0-2 against abzan reanimator
i feel if i just cut sidisi + innistrad for rhinos and theros, itd work but i would have a harder time getting stuff into the bin with only wayfinders, communes and spider
This is what I ran at a recent 5 round standard event. I went 4-1 with my loss to UB control.
I cut 4x murderous cuts and 4x satyr wayfinders for 4 thoughtseize, 1 agent, 1 bow, 2stain the mind against any form of UB or UW control.
How do you all deal UB control that runs 4 vaults?
Player A attacks with a random vanilla creature, Player B blocks with a vanilla Morph creature and passes priority, Player A passes priority again, Player B unmorphs.
Here are the questions:
1) who gains priority after Player B unmorphs the vanilla morph creature?
2) Does player A have the opportunity to cast Ride Down after the creature was unmorphed?
So on MTGO, Player B would retain priority after unmorphing, once Player B passes priority Player A gains priority and gets to respond. If Player A passes, it immediately moves to damage.
This was the confusing part because normally, Defenders get the last priority before damage correct?
At the comp event, 1 judge ruled no responses to vanilla unmorphs because they do not use the stack, so once player a passed priority, player b can unmorph and move to dmg.
another judge ruled the opposite and said even if its a vanilla unmorph, it is a special action and would require both players to pass priorities once again.
So my opponent has a Monastery Swiftspear in play, he casts a random enchantment before combat. When he declares attack with the swiftspear, he says I attack you for 1. At that point can I assume he missed the prowess trigger?
question 1: Can you miss the prowess trigger?
question 2: If my opponent does not declare the prowess trigger do I have the obligation to tell him or her?
I definitely see an increase in the amount of players playing standard at my lgs. HOWEVER, they are all people in their mid to late 20s with jobs to play decks that average around $2-300. Every time rotation happens they moan about it and then continue to buy more cards. Sad to say the average joe that plays fun decks cant even compete and would go 0-4 or maybe 1-3 at best.
As a limited only player myself, I'm glad there is an increase in the amount of people willing to spend on standard. It lets me sell some of the more expensive rares at better than buy prices from stores.
theres a collection tab on the main window of the client. There are a few filters on the left so you can specify which sets you want to look at. Beyond that I don't know how to trade on the wide beta hahaha, i always just log back into the old client to trade.
