I saw the wurm too but unfortunately he is unplayable in our list. He is just a limited bomb I fear. I'm still just happy about natural state from this last set. We can only hope they give us another strangleroot geist-esque card from this block, maybe in the Eldrich set?...

Yea. Been keeping my fingers crossed for a one drop hasty green geist since the set was announced.

I prefer wincons that are useful even when you do not have infinite mana. For example, there's been quite a few times where I had master transmuter in play and the colossus in my hand, and I snuck in the colossus at the end of the last player's turn and swung with it for the kill. The cannon is too mana intensive to use unless you have infinite mana and usually by that point, you've won the game anyway.

thats what I was missing. good talk.

any reason why Goblin Cannon isn't used as a wincon once you have infinite mana?
Hi. And thanks for the question.
Goblin cannon is nice when you have infinite mana, but when you don't have infinite mana (which is the vast majority of the time), the card is not useful. And it dies after its ability resolves, which limits its usefulness even more (this would be relevant if one of your opponents was able to cast something to prevent damage that turn).

Once this deck is generating infinite mana, there's many ways to beat your opponents and many more ways to find the cards necessary to beat your opponents. Adding goblin cannon to the mix would just slow the deck down.

The reason I'm looking forward to building this deck is because I really like the idea of having a deck that can pretty easily either lock down the board or swing with a bunch of Blightsteel Colossuses really early in a game. I'm scrapping a Kozilek deck to make this because this seems way better at getting to the point I wanted to make with Kozilek. But if the chain of artifacts you tutor for goes: EOT Rings of Brighthearth next turn Basalt monolith + Staff of domination, don't you have infinite mana & infinite card draw? Wouldn't drawing into a Goblin Cannon and then doing infinite damage be more efficient win con choice then swinging with blightsteel and copies? Or am I missing something?

Not the best card but Eye of Doom has been a fun political play. Letting your opponents pick the threats that need to go keeps some heat off of you even though you are essentially controlling the game. Very rarely will Tasigur or any of your permanents be chosen with the exception of Prophet of Kruphix. Thats usually the only permanent I play that ever draws any hate tbh.

Does this open us up to having some sort of off-colored planeswalker sideboard shenanigans?

I'm not seasoned in playing modern or even with this deck, but the first thing I thought was using this to help dig for the right dudes plus siding out aspect of hydra's for Ajani, caller of the pride or Elspeth, Knight-Errant for big flying Scavenging Ooze's, Leatherback Baloths & Thrun when you know you're smaller dudes are going to get bolted and you might not have a high devotion. Or do we use this just to run Liliana for the sake of running Liliana cuz she's good.

essentially paying at least 5 each turn to give my dudes +1/+0 seems like a lot for not much. I like the idea of putting the two iconic dragons together though!

So nojw that Wastes will give us the opportunity to play basics, what do you guys think about running a handful and then playing some ramp cards like Solemn Simulacrum Myriad Landscape and even Thawing Glaciers?

I think Myriad & Thawing Glaciers are both too slow. We'd be better off sticking with mana rocks. Mana Moose might belong now though.

what comes out though? I'm thinking worn powerstone & sisay's ring

The fourth ability seems extraneous- it pushes the text complexity up a bit too much.

Good point. Also seems like I'm asking for too much from a card.

I've always liked seeing what people have done before with Mistform Ultimus helmed decks. I however would never want to play mono-blue voltron. So what if we were all blessed with(dreams of a 5 color EDH pre-con one day):

    Onmiform Ultimus
    (2/W)(2/U)(2/B)(2/R)(2/G)
    Legendary Creature - Shapeshifter
    0/0

Changeling (this card is all creature types at all times)

    Flash

Omniform Ultimus's power and toughness are equal to the amount of mana paid to cast it.

At the beginning of your upkeep, sacrifice a permanent or Omniform Ultimus can't be the target of spells and abilities until your next upkeep.

X: Until end of turn, creatures you control have base power and toughness X/X and gain all creature types.

The higher p/t would be the reward for those not playing all 5 colors and spending more mana and thus giving them access to less anthems and effects. I think having a Mirror Entity in the command zone would be fun for people who want to go tribal and go wide instead of voltron.

Would love to sort out how to keep this balanced. instead of sac or shroud. maybe sac or devoid? Maybe sac a land or 2 for shroud. Just want a way to keep it from being too much of a game changer and have deck building be focused on not just good stuff pump + anthems + equipment. Its an omniform. It wants some weird synergistic swirl of effects to make it unstoppable.

He could even be a finisher for a 5c control build. Flash him in EOT once you have the board the way you like it. Throw some stuff on him and swing for the win. Similar to the way folks finish with Wydwen, the Biting Gale.

    Thoughts?

agreed. not as abusable as Zur. but theres some way that chaining search+cast+tap+sack of mana rocks plus grabbing Mana flare and floating all the mana from your lands then sac-ing the mana flare would be the way to break this and tutor up one of these combos (all combos that don't require non-artifact creatures to go off in RW):

Goblin Warrens/ + Mana Echoes + Gemstone Array = Infinite Goblin Tokens
Umbral Mantle + Mana Echoes + Elemental Mastery (on a creature with power >2) = Infinite tokens
Rest in Peace + Helm of Obedience (1,:symtap:: Exile target library)
Enduring Renewal + Sac Outlet + Ornithopter = infinite sacrifices
Stuffy Doll + Guilty Conscience = kill an opponent
Opalescence + Parallax Wave 2 paths to follow:
    1) Target opposing creatures with Parallax Tide, and in response, target itself (it's a creature due to opalescence). It exiles itself, triggers its leaves play ability to return itself to the battlefield, and then exiles each targeted creature, permanently. You can now permanently Final Judgment the opposing boards, and hit all of their enchantments too
    2) Target your own dudes. Let the abilities resolve, then target itself. It flickers, bringing back your dudes with it. This lets you infinitely re-use any ETB ability. Triskelion here mean infinite damage... remove 2 counters then blink and repeat

This really seems like it would be fun to break. Has a very Izzet or Simic feel to it though. I would think the Boros science would creatures somehow. Like they are doing some sort of military research to make the art of combat better. They're searching for a way to pair the right soldiers with the right equipment to maximize warfare perhaps. Building better war machines.

kinda giving me zur the enchanter vibes. Seems like it might be really easy to tutor up a game winning combo all in one turn. perhaps having to tap for the ability would make it more balanced.
