but overall, i'd say that rw is probably the least suited for a medium-long game, and i think its probably the weakest of the 5. the generals given aren't all that good and aren't really supporting the rest of the deck all so well.
Yeah, giant tribal with limited card draw seems problematic. Hopefully you'll luck into some ramp in your starting hand so you can play your threats in a timely manner. With only 5 or 6 cards in the deck that will help your draw cards, chances are you're going to be praying for a good top deck draw pretty early on.
Honestly, I think the Simic deck is going to play the most smooth out of the box. It has a low mana curve, a decent selection of card draw and cantrips, and good synergy with the featured commander.
In terms of what I'm interested in playing (not necessarily what's strongest):
Meren of Clan Nel Toth I can buy the card as a singleton and add it to my Commander Box and be able to easily a build a deck out of it without any other additions.
Mizzix of the Izmagnus My Commander Box is kind of creature heavy right now, and its lacking a R/U general. A Mizzix list would help round out my collection considerably. Depending on the deck list, I'll probably buy the whole deck.
Ezuri, Claw of Progress I have a half torn apart Vorel of the Hull Clade sitting sitting in a a drawer. I may pick up the Ezuri preconstructed deck and combine the two into a casual +1/+1 counters deck.
Kalemne, Disciple of Iroas. She's fine. She isn't the card advantage engine I was hoping for. There are several Boros generals I'd consider building around before her.
Edit: I do get the disappointment that it isn't the R/U artifact commander that everyone was hoping for. I think if they had just made it read "Legendary Artifact Creature - Sphinx" it would have mollified a lot of people.
Ehh, I don't know if its worth keeping a player in the game just to have one creature on the board get +3/+3- especially with so many combo win conditions people are packing these days. I hope I'm wrong, though, and in practice she turns out to be a beast.
I really like Meren Of Clan Nel Toth. She's the G/B reanimation commander I've been waiting for. Even if she skipped the experience counters and just read "at the beginning of your end step return a target creature card from your graveyard to your hand" I'd still play her.
I have no idea what's going on with Anya, Merciless Angel. It's definitely not even close to what I was hoping for; it's a potentially big indestructible beater, but only that. Pretty boring, and I can't imagine what sort of deck I'd ever want to build around her. I guess she does sort of encourage deckbuilding around a particular goal, combos with Heartless Hidetsugu, and vaguely punishes decks that spend their life really fast, but it doesn't do any of those things well enough that I'd ever want to use her as a commander, and realistically it's a very tough sell as a member of 99 because it just doesn't do anything except hit. The commander damage rules also don't interact favorably from a strategic standpoint. If there's a commander that can become an indestructible 13/13 flier provided a condition is met, "everyone has taken 20 damage" is a strategically un-synergistic condition. I'd be very interested to know how this card ended up so wrong.
She kind of reminds me of Blood Baron of Vizkopa. By the time you can get full value of the card, the game has progressed past the point where a big beater is going to make or break the game. Its a real shame. The art is too fantastic to waste on such a mediocre aggro card. Personally, I would prefer to use Angelic Overseer in the Kalemne deck. Not quite as powerful, but a much easier condition to achieve.
Dream Pillager seems pretty good for my Feldon EDH. Too bad that the exiled cards won't move into the graveyard, so a little bit of a nonbo, but card advantage is something the deck clearly needs. Especially with a dragon's body stuck to it.
Absolutely. That's what I'm excited about Sandstone Oracle for my Daretti deck.
This might be me showing my ignorance but does Master Biomancer actually have good synergy with with Ezuri, Claw of Progress ? I would think Master Biomancer would push creatures out of "power 2 or less" range, but I could very well be misunderstanding how the abilities would interact once the next creature comes into play.
Kalemne's Captain seems so problematic to me. If I'm playing the Kalemne deck my goal will be to be casting beefy creatures (like the captain). The way I'm going to achieve that in a timely manner is through the use of mana rocks- which he swallows whole. He might solid in a G/W deck, but in R/W- which also tends to rely heavily on equipment- I feel like he could potentially hurt you way more than your opponents.
I'm starting to like Mazirek, Kraul Death Priest more. Mazirek + sac. engine + persist creatures seems pretty neat.
From what I understand, Sliver Overlord is more combo oriented and if you're going for aggro, he'll slow you down. I'm not saying he's not good, I'm simply saying he may not fit my needs.
This has been my experience with Sliver Overlord as well. Great for combo, but I personally prefer Sliver Legion if I just want to turn sideways. I've had a lot of fun using him in 1 vs 1.
Good suggestions yall. Im keeping em all on my phone. Thinkin' about how to go about the commander (probably reaperking) and what "good stuff" to play. Keep them spooky cards comin!
If you're going Reaper King be sure to include Forbidden Orchard. It taps for any color and its haunted! Also, Cairn Wanderer is a great (well, playable) scarecrow creature with a cool set of graves in the art's background.
Have you thought about going a voltron route? Pick your favorite legendary (the new Kytheon, Hero of Akros might work or if you want to really go wild you could of course go with little girl) and then "dress them up" in scary outfits such as:
(Sorry about my terrible MSPaint skills)
