Very solid limited commons, but I too found it rather lame that they all have the attack > +1/+1 counter trigger. Why am I being incentivized to attack with my 0/3?

It's very unlikely you were ever using your blue for that reason anyway. It's a 1 mana way to gain energy in blue, and that is incredibly cheap. The fact that you can occasionally make this into a 1/4 if you want to is just a bonus.

wow...lazy and lame. had to make them all the same....ugh. this is kinda derpressing. the pax weekend and first couple days the spoilers were great. Usually the bulk is shown mostly the 2nd week of spoilers near the end.
This could be really bad. Either it means theres pretty much only garbage bulk left...which is a huge portion of the set as only 1/3 has been revealed so far or they are doing it differently this time and release bulk in the middle of spoilers. Hopefully the latter.

Dude they're commons. They're great limited cards which is exactly what they were intended for. It's a nice cycle.

I'm not sure he understands what a "cycle" is supposed to be.

Specifically, though, this vehicle isn't worthless without creatures. If we are seeing more like this, then I'm pretty excited. This reminds me of the cycle of mana rocks from Time Spiral which turn into creatures, except that this is considerably better than those.

I wouldn't call it considerably better than the TSP rocks. I'm not sure I'd call it better than the TSP rocks. Those I can use my excess mana to beat down with, which in a control deck is much more common than having an excess creature. To beat down with this I have to give up 3 power worth of attackers, which is fine, but very different. In a lot of decks, I would much rather have the TSP rocks.

K so any comments from OO? The actual info was the shocklands spike from which OO presumed the announcement of a new format. So there's no new format, but what would be causing the spike?

The spike was caused by the fact that Shocklands were too cheap. There was no reason for them to under $10, they are too good in too many formats. It's just a course correction.

Why should the secondary market be irrelevant? Saying that means you believe WOTC should not be allowed to make more money off their product. Cards are worth X dollars. You are saying WOTC should have to sell their own product for X - Y. How does that make sense?

Cards like goyf allows them to set a higher MSRP in the first place. In that way, he DOES dictate the price of those packs. It's the same here. But since planechase guarantees you every single plane card in existence instead of randomizing, it is set higher. If Wizards print 2 random plane per pack the MSRP will also be a lot lower.

If you feel that the price is too high, then this product doesn't aim at you.I myself buy the planechase only for the plane. The deck itself is virtually worthless (except the 2012 one which contains new card, and they do include those here). I pay $160 for 80 plane and need to hunt down the other 6 myself, adding to the cost. $150 is a fine deal, and if I don't own planechase already I'll probably pay for it.

Except they gave us 480 cards with DD Anthology and that only cost $100 when here we are getting 326 and somehow it adds up to an extra $50. Even given the planes and their semi rarity, the format isn't all that popular so why make it more expensive when this could mean getting more people into this format and making future installments? For what we are getting there is no excuse for $150.

We are getting about 35% to 40% less than the last Anthology and yet it costs 50% more. How does that make sense? This is the same thing with MM2 compared to MM1 and how they charged more for MM2 even though it was far worse, in almost every way, than its predecessor.

The number of total cards is irrelevant. The cards you get matter. Plane chase cards are expensive, therefore this set costs more. It's that simple. Don't like it? Don't buy it. There are plenty of people like me that have wanted Plane cards and will gladly pay to get all in one place while also getting other cards. This is a deal to me. It has been said over and over on this forum, not every set is for every person.

Recently announced via my source. That parts of the eldrazi modern deck will be receiving a ban in April. Straight from wizards. Enjoy.

The only thing this guy has gotten right for the last three "leaks" is stuff that any Magic player could have guessed. Can we just lock this until we get the real announcement.

Better or worse than average for this effect?

About average. More requirements, but unlike the "name a card" variations, very little chance of it being a 1 for 0.

How did the reddit leaker know about eternal masters then if there was no vendor leak?

The same way that the person who first posted about Eternal Masters. We had a little information, and then made educated guesses from there. All information we receive should be taken with a very healthy sized grain of salt at this point.

I find WOTC statement harder to relieve after a second read.

"We want to ensure that the entire Magic community knows that we DO NOT provide preferential treatment to any card vendor, distributor, or retailer; nor do we disclose detailed card set information prior to preview season."

Are godbooks sent only after preview season is kicked off? Are godbooks no longer sent? Does preview season start whenever Wizards says it started? (Preview season is never late, Frodo, nor is it early. It arrives exactly when We mean to.)

Could Wizards be lying to us? *gasp*

This is exactly what I thought when I first read the response. Isn't it common knowledge that they send the set list to some vendors/writers so they have advanced knowledge of the cards to write reviews about the set? Also, at minimum they are given cards to spoil.

During the Vintage Masters stream Randy Buelher talked about the process of choosing a spoiler by saying he looked through the list and most of the good stuff was already taken so he spoiled the Mana Confluence expedition. It sure sounds like they are given a list of the cards early. Even if it is just at the very beginning of the spoiler season this is still a lot of information. Just think about buying Jace, Vryn's Prodigy at a low price when others weren't aware of the support or possibly selling thoughtseizes before they were reprinted or buying Goblin Guides when they weren't reprinted in modern masters. Or heck, purchasing Eye of Ugin when you saw the crazy eldrazi coming.

I don't have a great alternative to the current system, but as long as players are also writers the will continue to have a large advantage over other players in terms of finance. In terms of actual advantages in tournament play it only affects the first and maybe second tournaments after a set is released but that is still a heafty advantage when the difference between silver, gold, and platinum is minute and the difference in a top 8 and top 16 is breakers.

No it is not common knowledge: reviewers are not vendors.

Do you people even research before making outlandish claims?

I see that you have went back and edited your original remarks to add the reviewers are not vendors part. That is true in most cases but don't a lot of these reviewers work for vendors like SCG and Channelfireball? Are we to assume that they do not share this information with the vendor partners? It is very true that most reviewers are not, themselves, vendors. But a number of them work for or are closely related to vendors. I just find it hard to believe that they don't share the info. Like I said, there isn't a great alternative because the information does have to reach the masses as do the cards so WOTC does need vendors. However, I also believe it's a little outlandish to believe that the vendors don't have access that the general public does not have given the events of the recent and not so recent past. Again, I am not an expert on these things, just a magic player and I don't intend on arguing about a topic that very few people can actually confirm how the process is completed. I simply wanted to state what seemed to be apparent to me personally. I was not aware I was making outlandish claims and, therefore, I apologize.

All we know, from the NPH incident, is that the Godbook was sent to a reviewer who works for a magazine in France. He's the one who showed it to his friends.

So no, we have no basis on which to claim that large scale vendors like SCG or ChannelFireball get to know entire sets before they are spoiled because WotC willingly gives them the information when they claim they do not.

I highly encourage to not listen to most of the drivel that gets posted on this website and rather use Google to read up on past events. You will quickly see that most users here have no idea what they are talking about more often than not.

To add on to this, Godbooks have little to no relevance in contemporary society. In the past, Godbooks were sent to writers of MAGAZINES so they could write reviews of the WHOLE SET in the magazine the month that the set came out. Because it was a magazine, the writer had to have the entire set far in advance of the actual release so the magazine could be printed. Nowadays, writers are sent individual cards and told to preview them with no other information. They do not need to be sent out well in advance anymore either because the previews are posted online nearly instantaneously. These leaks have nothing to do with WOTC giving out any information to anyone. It has to do with certain employees or former employees providing confidential information to vendors that were not supposed to have it. Either that, or this could be a dumpster diving thing too. We don't know yet because there is an INVESTIGATION. Instead of jumping to conclusions and coming up with ridiculous theories based on practices from 5+ years ago that had nothing to do with vendors is just plain dumb.

Masters set should not be about limited. They should be about lowing card price to 30-50 at the high end.

Why should that be the high end for cards?

If I understand the removal of rule 4 correctly, mana sources now can tap for any color they normally would, but we still can't run hybrid cards in decks that don't include all the hybrid card's colors? Why don't they just write a rule for hybrid cards that allows you to run hybrid cards the way they're meant to be?

Because it already works as "meant to be". A hybrid card is a multicolored card that is of all colors of it. The color identity rule (903.4) also states it.

The objective of hybrid mana is not to be able to use a card in a deck without one of its color but to make easier to cast multicolored spells, just that it ends being a loop hole that can make color pie violations (a reason for most hybrid have abilities shared by both colors) and be abused in deck building

You are right about the color identity rule, but the rest is just not true. A hybrid is supposed to be a card that has effects shared in two colors that either color can use. The color pie violations are not there because of a loophole, they're there mistakenly. This is stated all the time by MaRo.

Rakdos Cackler is how the mechanic works. It's a card that can be played in monoblack, monored or black/red, whose mechanics fit all of those colors. The Commander rules don't work properly with the intent of the mechanic, but that's because the Rules Commitee either want hybrid to work differently than it does in literally all other card formats, or because allowing hybrid to work with the current rules might require some rules writing that's unintuitive or not worth additional complexity.

Giant Solifuge is a mistake, not a demonstration of how hybrid is intended to work, because it doesn't do what a monored card can do. But the same can be said about a plethora of old cards. Aftershock for example is used in EDH to some extent because it deals with red's weaknesses (big toughness creatures) somewhat effeciently and also "destroys". Blasphemous Act is a newer example of this problem; it kills large creatures easily which red is not supposed to do. With the number of inconsistencies present in monocolor already, the argument against hybrid cards causing mechanics "bleeding" isn't really that relevant.

How cards are "supposed to be" for other formats is irrelevant for Commander. Magic isn't supposed to be played with a card that can be cast at any time from outside the game, and yet Commander has that. Normal formats do not have restrictions on the colors your deck can play, but Commander does. This format was created by a number of the members from the RC (which includes WOTC employees btw). Hybrid works differently in Commander because the RC thinks it's better that way. Personally, I agree with them. Unmake is not a white card. It is not a black card. It is a black AND white card. You know how I know this? It's border is black and white. There are black and white mana symbols on the card. Regardless of how the cards were designed for tournament formats, that's not how things work in Commander, because we work with a different set of rules.

This duel deck better not be filled with crap. This is the perfect spot to reprint liliana of the veil. The only reason WIzards claimed they didn't reprint her before was because mono black devotion was too strong. They seriously need to start holding up to this modern reprint promise to us. They have claimed over and over again that they were reprinting cards for us for modern. They massively failed in the past three sets! Origins, battle for zendikar, and oath to the gate watch were all reprint failures. You know what the cards in these decks don't even have to make total sense. One of them could have a transformation SB to splash Tarmogoyf or just be black/green. ugh........I know it's going to be though just like giants vs monsters.

    You're funny. They're not reprinting a $100 card in a $20 box set.
