Let me know what you think. I played it in two modern events this week to get ready and I think my only losses have been to my own stupid mistakes and drawing too many lands. Other than that, I have had some really close games and I think Bitterblossom adds a lot to the deck to act as both blockers and attackers. I would really like to use Kolaghan's Command over Blightning because I feel like it has more uses and it affects the board. However, I ordered them on ebay (kind of dumb) and I have to wait until next week until they come in. Also, Graven Cairns should be Bloodstained Mire in order to be able to fetch at least 2 swamps before I play Blood Moon but those got lost in the mail.
I think they are going to create a new thread in teh deck creation section that will focus on decklists like yours that want to run creatures and eschew hand control. Personally I think what you are really trying to do is run an MBC deck with a red splash, not necessarily a bad idea but why not just drop the rack altogether and focus on beating them down while keeping threats clear?
No half measures. Pick a strat and do it the best you can, dont try to dilute it in favor of diversity.
Thanks for the complement haha. I will try that this week and see what happens, I am thinking about adding in Bitterblossom, Gatekeeper of Malakir, and Abyssal Persecutor. Obviously that makes mine a completely different deck, so don't worry I won't be clogging up this board with any more posts.
I played a monday night modern event at my lgs with the Decklist below. I ended up going 1-2 and dropping. The only reason I lost the two rounds I did was because of bad draws when myself and the opponent were in topdeck mode. My games tonight made me think that the "Lightning Rack" style decks should run 4 Dark Confidant. I believe (correct me if I am wrong) that the only reason we didn't play confidants with the mono black version was because we didn't want to fill up our hand due to bridge. Without relying on bridge, I think confidants can be a good way to draw cards and keep up with blue decks. Our curve is so low that I don't see the damage ever being a problem. I also plan on swapping out Blightning with Kolaghan's Command after this weekend, which means I can use that to recur a confidant if need be. I know that some 8rack decks in the past have used confidants, including Arjan van Leeuwen's pro tour deck a while back: http://sales.starcitygames.com//deckdatabase/displaydeck.php?DeckID=63825
I wanted to see what the general consensus is around here before I spend $300 on a playset.
Hi, I've been lurking in this thread for a while.. I started out with the monoblack list last year and I am really enjoying the BR list with Grim Lavamancer and Nyxathid maindeck. It looks like people are getting fired up about which one is the "better" deck. I think since there is such a division between the mono black users and BR users, why doesn't someone just start a new BR Rack deck primer? I mean technically it isn't even an "8rack" deck because it only uses 4 copies of The Rack and no Shrieking Affliction. I think creating a new primer for the BR Rack deck will eliminate all of the animosity in this thread.
Yeah, maybe her price will go down if she gets reprinted in MM2. But i think you can use that decklist as a guide to making a B/R discard deck. For example, Necrogen Mists can be a budget replacement for Lilly.
I have been messing around with the deck on magic online the past week and I have to say it is a lot of fun. I think I will replace the 3 Blightning with Kolaghan's Command when it comes out. The only time I have a lot of trouble is against decks with tokens (lingering souls and young pyromancer). I considered putting in Illness in the Ranks, but I went with Bile Blight because it seems to be more relevant against other decks.
Other than that, do you guys have any suggestions?

8rack is typically a monoblack deck, but if you look towards the back pages there is a lot of discussion on a red/black version. Here is a version that placed in a SCG IQ: http://sales.starcitygames.com//deckdatabase/displaydeck.php?DeckID=79403

I use Polluted Deltas in my RB Rack Deck... it can still fetch for all of the swamps, godless shrines and blood crypts you need.
