You can't rule out that Sifa isn't W because she destroyed a town. White sources destroy towns all the time. Chandra's hometown was destroyed by White soldiers and Kirtar had his whole fiasco thing with the Mirari.
Plus, if the 5 'walkers are Dack, Garruk, Liliana, Sorin, Sifa and Dack isn't White, then either Sifa or Sorin are probably going to be (Sorin being B/W).
I didn't read any Chandra related books so I can't really make any definitive opinions but for the record, just because they were soldiers doesn't mean they were white aligned. And Kirtar's Mirari troubles were accidental. He didn't mean to destroy the northern order and encase his comrades in crystal. It just sort of happened when he used the mirari's power.
White characters don't just go around destroying every important character's village just because it's a thing to do. White characters need to at least believe their actions are justified. And it's really hard to justify destroying villages on a regular baisis and still believe in good faith that you're doing justice.
Sad. I really liked the tribal theme. If a type of magic or equipment is so specific to a certain clture or profession (Lance to a knight, Hook to a Zendikar Kor) It deserves a matching creaturetype to show that. I think they needed to do this sort of thing more often. Not remove it altogether.
Cool card. Nice flavor. And the trample fits I think. Imagine them attacking with such wrath that they are stabbing those polearms of theirs through their target into the planeswalker behind them.
So we've seen a small number of cards sofar, This new Angel being the newest that focus on spirits.
I'm gonna just throw out a guess that perhaps the Ravnica block is going to include a major spirit theme. Maybe a war with Agyrem? Kamigawa style. *shrug. Maybe it's just an Innistrade thing. Too early to claim otherwise I suppose.
I'm glad to see white getting more +1/+1 counter generating cards. It's real dumb that white, a color usually devoted to protecting creatures has so few answers to infect and other -1/-1 shenanagins
I like Spectral Rider, though the flavor text confuses me. "Screams of the avenged"? I am guessing the spirit kills things who have committed evils upon others but usually "avenged" would mean the person who was in need of revenge and then got it right? Not the badguy who started it.
Pretty. I think my only dislike is that she's sideways. I guess it's intended to get more into the picture but I'd prefer the picture level with theground I think. I think it's well done.
Nice artwork. Michael Komark I assume? That guy is the best. Well, there's definitely a dark theme to the block. That's for sure. Hope they don't forget about white while they're there.
Has anyone else noticed that Sorin is using his left hand in that art?
That's quite funny because if you look at his original planeswalker art, you'll see his sword is on his left (meaning he uses his right hand). Sorin's Vengeance also shows that he's using his right hand. You can also see him using his right hand on Repay in Kind.
Observant. Though it looks like he's using his left in Sorin's Vengeance. In my experience fighting with a longsword in either hand is pretty easy. Fencing you tend to pick a favorite. But with a longsword it's really not a problem to use your offhand. Maybe he's lived so long he gets bored and starts each day randomly choosing which side to gird his sword too as a way to make things more interesting. In any case it's doubtfull the artists knew that. Artists are probably either not informed wheather he has a preferred hand or perhaps one or more of the picturs were reversed after being drawn?
I would personally love a return to Ravnica. Maybe because I missed most of the first one, so I must redeem myself.
If we do get a return though, I have no idea what their plans would be since the guilds are now broken up. Also, Ravnica now seems to be more of a hangout plane for Planeswalkers. I personally am getting sick of Planeswalker cards though, might be me and my love for nostalgia though.
The guilds are still there. The guildpact was destroyed but they made a new one. Feather became the leader of the Boros. Jarad, the new Godzombie, The Azorius got...I think his name was Grand Arbiter Leonos VII? Somthing like that.
It would be awsome to see a return to Ravnica. I'll be praying for a card for Feather, Fonn and some new Azorius/Boros/Selesnya cards for all my ravnica block decks.
Why are people complaining? I would much rather revisit planes and continue their stories than make up entirely new and unfamiliar ones. I could care less how close one "revisit" block is to another. Why does it matter at all? Ravnica was awsome and that's all that matters!
I'd be perfectly fine with them just straight up reprinting Ravnica.
Seriously, can anyone name even one thing that didn't work in Ravnica? Horrible pun intended, they hit solid gold with that block and the Kami - Rav - TSP Standard timeframe was truly awesome.
Azorius guild cards. Poor Azorius got screwed over by the Sunforger and the fact that there was too much mass removal cards already out. In order to make an Azorius deck work, you had to use very few cards that actually had the guild symbol on them
Seems to be quite the Izzet Guilder right there. Of course, the guilds disbanded so I guess he does freelance work now. Assuming he's Izzet. Here's to hoping he's in Innistrad, and if so, wondering where the hell it's taking place!
The guilds didn't disband. They formed a new guildpact at the end of the novels as I recall.
I'm fairly certain that the city in the background is Ravnica. Look at the artwork for some of the Ravnica planes.
