    Round = Match.
Match = 2 or 3 games. First player to win two games wins the match.

For a land, being a Mountain, a Plains and a Forest means having the three following activated abilities :

Tap : Add R to your mana pool.
Tap : Add Wto your mana pool.
Tap : Add G to your mana pool.

You can only activate one of those three abilities at once.

The one most important thing to correct here is that the attacking player orders blockers, not the defending player.

    Quote from Angelique
    Here you go

For the sake of completeness, this rule is also relevant :

510.1c A blocked creature assigns its combat damage to the creatures blocking it. If no creatures are currently blocking it (if, for example, they were destroyed or removed from combat), it assigns no combat damage. If exactly one creature is blocking it, it assigns all its combat damage to that creature. If two or more creatures are blocking it, it assigns its combat damage to those creatures according to the damage assignment order announced for it. This may allow the blocked creature to divide its combat damage. However, it can’t assign combat damage to a creature that’s blocking it unless each creature that precedes that blocking creature in its order is assigned lethal damage. When checking for assigned lethal damage, take into account damage already marked on the creature and damage from other creatures that’s being assigned during the same combat damage step, but not any abilities or effects that might change the amount of damage that’s actually dealt. An amount of damage that’s greater than a creature’s lethal damage may be assigned to it.

    Example:

The damage assignment order of an attacking Craw Wurm (a 6/4 creature) is Wall of Wood (a 0/3 creature) then Eager Cadet (a 1/1 creature). Craw Wurm can assign 3 damage to the Wall and 3 damage to the Cadet, 4 damage to the Wall and 2
damage to the Cadet, 5 damage to the Wall and 1 damage to the Cadet, or 6 damage to the Wall.

However, since cascade allows you to cast the spell for free, the spell is still free and you can cast the kicked Ruinblaster on the field without paying anything.

Wrong. Cascade doesn't allow you to cast a spell for free, it allows you to cast a spell without paying its mana cost, which is not the same thing at all. The mana cost of a spell is only what's printed in the upper right corner of the card (Future Sight cards notwithstanding). Any additional costs, mandatory or optional, must actually be paid. If you want to destroy a land with a cascaded Goblin Ruinblaster, you must pay R.

It's not exactly true what you say. you say that when you would tap a forest it would make 4 mana. that's not true. When the forest is tapped it produces 1 mana, the 2 keepers make 1 mana each en the mana flare makes 1 mana. ofcourse that would result in 4 mana but it isn't produced by the forest itself.

The reason why it is important to distinguish that is if you would add Mana Reflection for example. if the forest was making 4 mana in that scenario the reflection would double that to 8. But this is not the case. the forest makes 1 mana normally and that gets doubled to 2 by the reflection. Netting 5 mana with the other cards

That's true, thanks for the fix.

  • posted a message on replacement, how they work ?
Provided that you choose to replace every of your draws (the normal one + the two additional ones granted by Sylvan Library) with Abundance's replacement effect, you will not have actually drawn any card this turn, so you won't have to put any card on top of your library and you won't have to pay life.

However, if you only replace one or two of the three card draws with Abundance, you'll have to either put the card or cards you actually drew on the top of your library, or pay 4 life for each of them, because Sylvan Library forces you to make that choice for two of the cards you drew this turn (if you only drew one, it does at much as it can and forces you to make the choice for that card).

Yes. The enchantment doesn't need to have been on the battlefield to "see" the creatures going to the graveyard. It uses game information that's independant of itself.

ok thanks...so its just muti copies with Mana Flare right?

I'm not sure what "multi copies" means here, but if you control Mana Flare and two Keepers of Progenitus, each of your Mountains, Plains and Forests will produce 4 mana instead of one when activated (its normal mana + 3 of the same type). In short, this kind of ability "stacks".

    Quote from Nis
Combat, like everything else in a turn, follows a proscribed series of steps. The first step in the Combat Phase is the Beginning of Combat Step. During this step both players get priority to cast spells and activate abilities. This is the step where you would tap a creature to prevent it from being declared as an attacker in the next step.

The step following the Beginning of Combat Step is the Declare Attackers Step. The first thing done during this step is the active player declares which creatures are going to be attacking. At this time it's already too late to tap a creature to prevent it from attacking.

Most players use a shortcut and skip the Beginning of Combat Step and go right into declaring attackers. In this case you need to inform your opponent that you want to back up and do stuff in Beginning of Combat Step. That is what your friend has been doing and is perfectly valid.

What is not valid, however, is systematically waiting to see which creatures the opponent is going to attack who with, and then tap those "in response". I suspect that's probably more like what his friend has been doing (not out of bad intent but out of lack of knowledge of the rules).

But anyway, the correct thing to do is to apply the rules explained above. When you know an opponent is likely to tap one of your creatures to prevent it from attacking, you say "I declare my combat phase", and his last chance to do it is now, before you make your choices.

I think so long as the name, type line, mana cost, and if it's a creature the Power/Toughness are visible it's okay.

I'd need confirmation, but I think the only things that must not be altered are the name and mana cost. Other than that, the art must be somewhat recognizible, which it should be if it's extended instead of outright replaced.

The best thing to do is to verify with the Head Judge/TO of the tournaments you're gonna play those cards in to know if they're ok with it.

    Quote from Haelstrome
Let's say my opponent had a 4/4 attacking monster with trample, and I used my Outrider en-Kor to block, then using its ability to redirect all damage to another creature.

Outrider en-Kor was assigned enough damage such that it should have died, so should trample therefore carry over to me as a player, even though it did not kill all blockers?

The way Trample works is that you must assign a minimum of damage equal to the blocker's toughness minus damage already marked on it this turn, and then you can assign damage to the defending player. That's it. The fact that the damage assigned to the creature is gonna be prevented or redirected, or is in any other way not really gonna be "lethal" doesn't matter.

Ok thanks, however the symbol is still not considered a red mana symbol it is considered a red/black mana symbol and the rule given states that anything that can effect a red mana symbol or be effected by a red mana symbol can also be effected by a hybrid that includes the red mana symbol correct?

    Thanks for the replies.

No, it is considered a red mana symbol by everything that cares. You can say for yourself that it's "not really a red mana symbol", but as far as the game and its rules are concerned, it is a red mana symbol.

No. You are misinterpreting something here. I said in my first post that you cannot cast Infernal Tutor if you do not have an other way to pay for it than the Diamond.

But dont you pass priority after paying costs? This one has me confused as hell so I would love a good clear answer

No one has priority (aka the right to cast spells) during the process of casting a spell, which includes paying costs.

After you're done casting Infernal Tutor, you can retain priority to activate Lion's Eye Diamond.

  • posted a message on Lions Eye Diamond and Infernal Tutor
You cannot use Lion's Eye Diamond to pay for the cost of Infernal Tutor in this case, because the Diamond's ability can only be activated any time you could cast an instant (aka when you have priority, which you don't during the process of casting a spell). Other than that, this trick works fine, it's just that you have to pay for the Tutor with other sources of mana, and then sacrifice the Diamond with the Tutor on the stack.
