  • posted a message on How do you think players should have to represent tokens on the battlefield?
All my decks are in different color sleeves, so I just grab another deck and put cards face down for tokens. I can have a different type of token for as many decks as I have with me that way.

You could also, if you have a lot of tokens that need counters, is buy some bingo/counting chips for a few bucks. Grab a sharpie or paint brush and make whatever tokens you want. Or do the same with some craft paper and cut them out, just put them in a plastic bag or something.

If you're doing something with hundreds of tokens, just keep track of it on a pad of paper.

I'm building a grindy/value/reanimatorish Sek'Kuar, Deathkeeper deck and was wondering if anyone else had some interesting ideas for wincons in G/B/R. I'd like to stay away from infinite combos because I get bored of playing them and my meta isn't super competitive. Still trying to win, just not on the spot.

The one's I can think of:

Reanimating Gray Merchant of Asphodel/Kokusho, the Evening Star, or general reanimation with Purphoros, God of the Forge/Zulaport Cutthroat/Stalking Vengeance effects.

Craterhoof Behemoth or Triumph of the Hordes (against lifegain).

    Late game Exsanguinate/Torment of Hailfire.

Living Death or Rise of the Dark Realms.

    Insurrection effects.

Anyone else have some other good ways to close out a game in Jund? They don't need to be specific to this kind of deck.

Definitely picking up some ideas for my deck. I've never played Grixis control before so it's a new playstyle for me and I'd rather not do infinite combo or Doomsday myself either so I like your list!

A couple cards I'm considering that I didn't see here: Abrade for spot removal and Faithless Looting since discarding cards isn't a bad thing with Kess.

Profane Command seems like a house. Finisher, removal that gets around indestructible, and recursion for things like Thrax (the main reason I'm including it).

Casting that new Disrupt Decorum twice might be fun too but I may have to do more aggressive board wipes (Chain Reaction / Blasphemous Act) + Rise of the Dark Realms for my meta, so there may not be enough creatures left to use it. It's probably going into Edgar since it's both funny and taps blockers.

Yahenni's Expertise also seems like it would be great with Kess.

I have a Gisa and Geralf deck myself. The trick is run as few zombies as possible lol. I dont like that my advice is that but essentially the number of "good" zombies is very few. You want the ones that give you the most bang for the buck and you really only intend to be casting a zombie each turn so you dont need like 30+ zombies to have access to one zombie in grave at a time.

I think I am down to like... 13-14 zombies or something in my build at this point (list in my signature). In a lot of cases as long as you have a few zombies you have enough zombies. So run the best of them and then run cards that have good synergy with self milling.

I have two decks at this point that I would consider tribal and for both I only run as many cards of the tribe as I need to get by.

Don't play G&G but I have (or had) a Horde of Notions deck with a similar experience. Sure there is an elemental for every situation, but if 99% of the time I am just going to recast Omnath or Avenger then I need to make some cuts. "Tribal" doesn't mean all your non-land cards need to be part of the tribe.

Say you have a pile of zombies in your graveyard, which ones are you actually going to want to cast and which ones are just going to sit in your yard? That's similar to a card being a dead draw in a GY deck. Takes some playtesting and meta adjusting, but you should figure out what to cut pretty quick (use proxies for this!).

I looove tribal decks myself and I'll totally include bad cards just for flavor/theme, but I will cut the ones that I never actually get to use.

Big Game Hunter is an option, though it has its own restrictions.

  • posted a message on Best Counter for Boardwipes? TALKING BOUT THEM INDOMITABLE SASKIA BEATS!
She is in the recursion colors, even just Sun Titan and Alesha, Who Smiles At Death with combat doublers is gross. I agree with running Lapse of Certainty but more to stop graveyard hate, since I am leaning towards using the graveyard with Saskia. You also have Warping Wail to counter most wraths (edit: If you can afford to run colorless sources!).

The thing with aggro in my experience though is that every non-creature/aggro card you run will make the deck that much weaker at what it does. Killing people. You can't really have goodstuff cards or run cards to shore up your weaknesses. The best way to counter board wipes is to kill the player who has them.

Not to say I wont run protection, but I lean toward running creature based solutions so that they are also swinging in for damage. Same reason that most of my ramp will be mana dorks instead of rocks or Cultivate.

  • posted a message on Meren has become stale. What other commanders can use a bulk of the cards in her deck?
Another option is Sidisi, Brood Tyrant, if you enjoy dredge. She opens up a zombie tribal angle but you can just have her to get access to U and get added value from dredging.

They've got some similarities to Karador.

I can't believe I haven't seen Fleshbag Marauder posted yet, is it just that obvious?

They seem like they could do serious work as the generals of a more grindy/controlly/staxy zombo deck.

He's about as obvious an auto include as Gray Merchant of Asphodel or Sidisi, Undead Vizier :p . I definitely want to try building a grindy value deck with GG, much like Meren.

How are folks finding 2HG at the prere?

I'm still thinking it seems really tough: Werewolves will be waaaaaay worse, so a large chunk of your pool is just bad. Has someone made them work well, or do you just play the ones that have good unflipped stats and if they ever flip then it's all upside?

Seems like most pools will end up with some really solid fliers+spirits across W and U, some solid madness in BRu, maybe good humans across W and G. So probably plenty of fliers, plenty of small-creature removal, but not a ton of fatties and not a ton of fatty removal.

I played against a team where one person was RG wolves, the other was UB controlly. It wasn't "bad", it just wasn't as good. Worst case they were vanilla creatures. I think you have to plan your teams play better if you want to flip, so you want to try flipping on a turn where you have combat tricks in your hand and your teammate has instants to play as well so both of you can pass turn with open mana. Then next turn go swing in with say, Magmatic Chasm.

I wouldn't try to build around the mechanic but if those are the cards I have then that's how I'd try and do it.
