I had a crazy play with my Niv-Mizzet deck earlier this week. The game is being dominated by a UG player with Avarice Totem, Seedborn Muse, and Mana Reflection. Its a 6 man game, so he has 3 Gilded Lotus, 3 Sol Rings and a slew of lands. Everyone is at a relatively high life total because there hasn't been much action except for random ramping yet.
So the UG player passes turn after playing a land and losing a counterwar in an attempt to resolve Memnarch. He has 5 lands untapped. EOT, the player to his left StPs his Seedborn Muse. He then draws and passes turn to the Saffi player who then Krosan Grips his Mana Reflection. He thinks twice about floating mana, but decides against it and Saffi player passes the turn to me. I have lands and nothing else out, but draw into Mind Over Matter. I play it and then Mizzium Transreliquat. I use the Transreliquat's first ability to copy a Gilded Lotus until EOT. I then add UUU and untap it with Mind Over Matter and tap it for RRR. With three cards in hand, I cast Recurring Insight targetting a player with 8 cards in hand. The UG player attempts to take mind over matter with Avarice Totem in response and I discard one of my remaining cards to untap the Transreliquat with Mind over Matter for the mana to cast Twincast on my Recurring Insight. It resolves and I draw 8- one of which is a Reiterate. I discard 2 of the 8 new cards to add RRRRRR to my pool with the transreliquat and Reiterate with buyback my Recurring Insight. So, with my Recurring Insight and the Avarice Totem activations still on the stack, I proceed to draw my deck and add a ton of mana to my mana pool. The Kozilek is still in my library so I am able to keep myself from decking until I win out after the stack clears with a Temple Bell.
Cycling lands are huge in my Niv-Mizzet deck, and with Loam in my Kresh deck, I run a full 6. But I run 0 in Sharuum and Sisay because early mana and fixing is so much more important in those decks.
The other day, I was playing my Niv-Mizzet EDH deck in multiplayer against a Savra deck and a Kalitas deck. Early on, I had been hit by Sadistic Sacrament removing Curiosity, Ophidian Eye, and Mind over Matter. I still had ways to win, but it wasn't going to be easy. The fact that I was playing against 2 black decks meant I was going to have a difficult time untapping with my general which made the situation even more hopeless. So I went the route of card advantage- I had a temple bell and a Mizzium Transreliquat which was a copy of Rings of Brighthearth, so everyone was drawing a bunch of cards. In the weakened position I was in and considering I was drawing everyone a lot of cards, I was more or less left to my own devices and with a high life total (35). So the board gets wiped like 5 or 6 times with recurring Kagemaros from the Kalitas player, but the Savra player has an active Golgari Grave Troll and a Genesis in the yard, so he's able to whittle the Kalitas player's lifetotal to 17 before he is able to recur Kagemaro, recast it, and sac it in the same turn. The stalemate goes on for several turns while I keep the card advantage pumping until the Savra player draws and plays a Deathcloud for 17. This would put him at 10, Kalitas at 0 and myself at 18. With Deathcloud still on the stack, I Fork it for the win.
I have had huge success in multiplayer with Kresh. It usually only takes one swing to kill someone, and if you are political enough, you only have to worry about that person's removal. Plus, Kresh can make some crazy plays to pull wins out of nowhere. Unlike the other generals mentioned, Kresh can take full advantage of amazing EDH cards like Wildfire and Destructive Force. You don't know EDH joy until you've evoked a Shriekmaw to kill an Emrakul, the Aeons Torn, then won the game by attacking with your 21/21 general, but sacing a Seedguide Ash to Phyrexian Tower for the extra BB you needed to Flowstone Slide for 5 then attacking with your now enormous general is pretty close.
I think the first thing I'd go for is the Sharuum deck's Magister Sphinx. I heard spending 5 mana to deal 30 damage is good.
Yeah, it's good for losing the game before you untap again. As "the Sharuum player" do you know how many times my Magister Sphinx was Aquired only for me to blink it and kill that person the next turn?
Stealing fatties with Acquire is a huge political no-no. You will become a target as fast as if you would have suspended Obliterate. Even Bribery-ing for anything bigger than a Solemn Simulacrum or Glen Elandra Archmage will usually get you murdered- which is why I've taken Bribery out of most of my decks.
Now that the casual market has been satiated, unless some deck pops up that actually plays her, it will be at 20 within a month. M11 will be very heavily drafted.
Yeah, I recently got killed by a 13 year old playing Sorrin in a big multiplayer EDH game. I was pretty pissed, going and I'm thinking the specific life changers needs to go. You know who they are and they're really not fun. I dont know who in R&D thought that was a neat idea, but I hate it.
To be fair, you were playing Jhoira and had a Kozilek and Time Stretch suspended. Sorin is fine. He draws the heat of the entire table immediately.
@GwafaHazid- some groups change those numbers around, but there is no universal change to any card's text.
This is the kind of arrogance that bothers me terribly. Last time I checked, MBC hasn't posted ANY decent results. U/W is one of the best decks in standard.
I don't see how MBC can win when we stick an Iona. And you know, once m11 hits we could just leak your mind sludge and still slap down threats. Your hand will burn out before ours will.
I can play the arrogant game, too.
I liked this post until the bolded part. Someone took deck speculation personally, lol. I do think MBC will be viable when m11 comes out- after rotation? I don't know- but to those wanting a sweeper, Consume the Meek does really well at instant speed here.
He obviously doesn't *just* care about the tournament. It's probably similar to me. For the pre-release my plans in order of hope is. 1. Open Money/Cards I need for EDH or T2 2. Open cards that can win me the tourney. 3. open bad cards...
So like me he probably would rather open a good card than open this, I would.
*Edit*
1. Effigy is nuts for EDH. Trinket Mage approved.
2. Effigy is bomb removal that doesn't affect your color requirements- easily helps win a tourney.
3. Can't help here.
1. Its a casual format, so all you can do is pick up your cards and walk away.
2. The only way this will change is if WotC picks it up as an official format, but if that happens- people won't mind anyways because even DCI bans make more sense than some of the EDH bans.

Dakmor Salvage
and other Dredge cards should work.
