There was another thread about bestow creatures without a real mana cost. The general consensus was that doing that really opens up the doors for a lot of strange card interactions (cascade, etc...).
I think perhaps an alternative, safer direction, would be for them to make some creatures where their bestow cost is less than their normal casting cost.
You are given the incentive to always play it as its bestow cost.
I wish I could find my trade log from the 2006 time frame, I'm sure there would be some trades that in retrospect are either way in my favor now, or way in the other guy's favor. I also wish I would never had sold my collection (more than once!).
Most of these are just going to be about how much I hate myself for selling cards I used to have for various reasons throughout my life. I've finally made a promise to myself to never sell my collection.
Here's some good ones I found:
My Magic Online 3x Eternal Witness, 4x Meloku, the Clouded Mirror for 3x (paper) Sinkhole.
Their:
1x Foil Dark Confidant (sooooooooo wish I wouldn't have sold this )
My $100 for 4x FoW, 2x Scrubland (this was in 2006)
My: $50 for 11 Foil Unhinged Forests and 1 Foil Divining Top
My: $15 for Foil Fulminator Mage and Foil Enlightened Tutor
My worst trade ever was also back in the 2005-2006 timeframe. I somehow decided it was a good idea to send ~$150 in cards to a guy in Canada with not that many refs. I was getting duals for standard stuff, so I really wanted it to happen.... yeah... if it's too good to be true, it is. Turns out the guy ripped a lot of people.
honestly, from what I've seen recently on ebay, the way to get the most money from your collection is piece it out. but in a very unethical way.
so I've been seeing auctions for "collections" going on ebay for insane prices. just last night, an auction had a SINGLE picture of an ordinary card box with given magic cards in it. no other pictures. no specific details of any cards, no names, just ONE picture.
but the description read something like, "just found this box, don't know anything about the game, cards seem to be from 1993-95, its yours with no reserve." very storage wars -esq if you understand me. anyway, that box had about 12 bids and sold for about $76.00.
now for all we know that box could have been filled with revised, champions, or even innistrad commons. it doesn't really matter. it was sold with no returns accepted.
and I've also seen a mother sell her sons collection "that was sitting in the attic." the binder was old, the cards were old (not valuable) and there was a single pic of ONE DUAL LAND. this binder sold for $700 +, no returns. anyway, i think u get my point.
this might seem unethical, but to me, something is worth whatever someone else is willing to pay. if u really wanna make the most $$$, try this out. ur really banking on the willingness of other's taking a chance.
Setting aside ethics for a moment, the other issue with this is that you need a different account for each auction.
Anytime I see auctions like that, I check for their other items currently for sale, or recently sold/bought. If I see anything related to MTG, I know that person is lying, and does have knowledge of the game, and has most likely stripped out the good stuff and is selling jank.
By the same token, if you find someone selling, who does have a lot of feedback, and their feedback does not indicate a knowledge of MTG, that might be a little more worth taking a risk.
My personal favorites are the ones with descriptions like "I know nothing about this game, BUT, I know that there are at least 25 rares included from type 2!!"
I'm using that price list and notice several that have seem to held value despite not being highly used cards in eternal formats (to my knowledge). Some of that list:
Capsize (I don't think it's played anywhere)
Eternal Witness (Despite not being an elf it's a 1-2 of in elf decks)
Forbid (I don't see it being used)
Impulse (Not sure, but demand seems low since the normal version is 50 cents)
Mogg Fanatic (Sees very minor play in burn, and I guess goblins)
Soltari Priest (I doubt it's used)
Wall of Blossoms (I seriously doubt it sees play)
White Knight (Likely doesn't see play)
These are all cards that are priced around, or a little lower than what Dismembers price is now. What factor is it that increases the price of those cards, and is it something Dismember has in common? Since like was stated, it's not really a high demand eternal format card.
Many of those listed are very old promos. The fanatic used to be much higher, if I recall correctly. Now that it isn't played, it's mainly just for the collectors sake.
With the rise of potentially fun angels (and demons) in AVR, do you guys think Heavenly Inferno will peak right before AVR is released?
There were a couple at Target yesterday so I bought the one that had the best packaging. Wondering if I should list it on ebay to coincide with the AVR release or just keep holding it.
(Also, related, they also had at least one of each non Counterpunch deck)
I snagged a less than perfect condition Heavenly Inferno the other day. I'm just planning on keeping it sealed for a long time.
I'm hoping in a few years from now, it will have some appeal, although it being a bit scuffed up does worry me a bit.
I haven't had any other luck with the precons around here.
Not all old sealed boxes have been winners, either. You'd be hard pressed to get your original purchase price out of selling a Kamigawa block box (at least, so far as I'm aware). And I've become resigned to the fact I'm never getting my purchase price (let alone purchase + interest I could have gotten) out of my sealed Fallen Empires box, which I bought at retail when it came out.
FWIW, CHK boxes do go for a decent amount. But you are correct, there are plenty of sets out there whose boxes can be had to equal to or less that their retail price at time of release.
Sometimes I think about buying these... just for the nostalgia...
magiccards.info kind of has a batch importer, but it doesn't have a great output.
I guess what I'd need to do is import the current list from MOTL, and then create some sort of V look-up based on that.
Does anyone know a tool that you can paste in a list of cards, and it will re-order them based on their value?
I'd like to setup a trade list, and be able to easily sort my cards so the more valuable ones are near the tops.
Thanks in advance for any recommendations.
Never dealing with these guys again, and will do everything I can do make sure others don't as well.

That's exactly what I thought when I read this... hopefully it is a REALLY subtle hint about going back to Dominaria!
Is there any website that has a fairly composite list of all the "officially branded" playmats that have been produced?
Obviously, I know there are places that put out custom playmats, but I'm just curious as what all arts have been printed for GPs, etc...
Thanks for any help!

Mickey Rourke would be a perfect fit.
I think it's the most fun I've had since Halo, and I can't seem to get enough.
Send me a PM if you play and want to get a game going.
