I think the underlying issue with Psychatog is telling of the issue that Mother of Runes would face as to how would it fit into standard? What sort of standard would have to exist for Mother of Runes to not absolutely destroy the format?
The bulk of the deck is U/G but the nature of it affords the inclusion of other colors, and the ability to generate those colors is not impossible. It also utilizes playsets of two of the best ramping creatures Birds of Paradise and Noble Hierarch to get a turn 2 Painter's Servant and potentially keeping up mana for card draw. I also have explore as a turn 2 option to ensure I can get to the pieces I need to win.
Through the Breach effectively serves the same purpose as Dramatic Entrance without the color restriction. The creatures I will be cheating into play are largely variable, and in somewise, dependent upon the matchup. Some of them do have to have green in their costs so as to not be overly reliant on the Painter's Servant.
The rest of the deck is basically utility cards to either enable the combo Summoner's Pact, or cards to protect Remand, or to draw Gitaxian Probe.
I am curious as to what folks think about this. Any advice is appreciated.
Is it possible that Fetchable Utility lands which are not duals would be printed and recieved well. I feel like this is a possibility which is unexplored, and has quite a bit of design space.
I have a question about the black splash. Has Athreos, God of Passage been tested much as I could see some potential there. I also know that such mechanics also have a tendency to universally backfire since your opponent will likely never pick the option that will help you the most. His cost does sit nicely on the vial curve though.
I would say that it is going to be entirely possible to pull of shenanigans with The Great Aurora in standard even. I could see there being potential for decks to pump out tons of tokens, and turn 4 or 5 cast Aurora to get absolute advantage on the board.
If you think that Soul's Majesty is underperforming, you could look into Life's Legacy. It has a notably lower casting cost, and if you sacrifice a Lifeblood Hydra, you will reap huge benefits.
As per your ramp package, Nature's Lore is often overlooked. Elvish Spirit Guide is a bit more on the spendy side, but not prohibitively so. If you are looking to splash, Sylvan Caryatid is really good for fixing, and is particularly cheap at the moment. Wild Growth if you are looking to remain Mono-green is good, but for a splash Abundant Growth would work well. These are just a few ideas.
After working on and acquiring the necessary cards for the deck, I have found out that the bigger decks in the meta that I am about to enter is full of Merfolk and Tron. What are the cards I should sideboard if this is the case, and what are some recommendations for the main deck here.
If sweepers are such a great boon against elves, does that make the R splash more worth it? It does give access to tools such as Anger of the Gods,Pyroclasm, and if you really want to press it Flamebreak. The last of those being perhaps more prohibitive to cast than the other two. The biggest issue I can see is that none of the sweepers in red work well with Thalia, Guardian of Thraben or Vryn Wingmare. The other issue I can see is that so many of our creatures are X/1, so they would get caught as well, but that could be resolved by having a Mark of Asylum in the board as well. Flamebreak also has the added benefit of helping our creatures a bit if we have some fliers out to get enough damage dealt.
In Mono-White, it seems that Sunscour would be a good sweeper to utilize, since it can be more easily cast than most sweepers. Retaliate seems like it has potential too. Even the use of these sweepers seems like even a slight R splash would be greatly helpful just for Boros Charm
I know it has been mentioned a bit, but if Day's Undoing becomes an issue in any deck, would Spirit of the Labyrinth vialed in be a good countermeasure to it?
The build I am now currently looking at is testing out Archangel of Tithes. It passes the bolt test with ease, and since I am going to be running mono-white, the cost is not an issue. The build has become more taxing with an aggressive angle. The primary beaters are Mirran Crusader, Serra Avenger, and Brimaz, King of Oreskos.
