Besides the last effect, new charm doesn't really offer anything "new". We already had powerful card draw and a strong counter spell (cryptic).
This card at triple U is hard to cast and competes with 3 mana walkers slots. If you ask me, I'll take Narset over it any day.
What I think we needed was a strong straight answer at 2 mana. However, because Wizards wanted to push their cute 3 mana counter, we were denied Counterspell once more.
Tl;dr: draw 2 for 3 mana is meh and counter a spell for 3 mana is too slow.
Overall the deck felt great, but I think it needs more main deck answers to Phoenix.
@MiniMee314
First of, great result and congrats on your run this tournament.
I'm curious about something, you were running all of these cards 2x Detention Sphere, 1x Settle the Wreckage & 4x Terminus yet you still think you need more main deck answers to Phoenix?
I'm sure there isn't a single right answer but the card I'm glad it got unbanned is Jace, the Mind Sculptor.
The reason behind that is it (hopefully) taught people to be more skeptical and not attack others when it comes to discussions about unbanning cards in Modern. Before Jace unbanning, almost everyone claimed that Jace was the "boogie man" that would break the format bla bla bla and obviously that didn't happen.
I just hope people learned something from this incident with this card as it may hopefully lead to more open-minded future discussions about cards unbanning in Modern.
Would it be wise to expand on the format? For example, adding 7th Edition to the pool. If there were to be cards that are obviously broken or have the potential to break something fro said set, ban list is there for it.
Notes about some card choices:
- Collective Brutality is the main because I want to protect myself against aggro with life gain plus the card is very versatile outside of aggro MUs which is helpful.
- I love the idea of 2 for 1 and that's why I play 4of both Cryptic Command and K.Command in addition to 2x Nicol Bolas.
- Playing Opt instead of other cantrips because most of my deck operates on instant speed therefore Opt helps me keep my mana up.
Since Detention Sphere is soft to Assassin's Trophy, should we consider Cast Out in its place? Sure, both can be destroyed the same way but because of the (W) Cycling ability on Cast Out, it won't as dead in our hand compared to D.Sphere against BGx. The cycling ability is a huge selling point and that Flash though...
So besides the standard 4x Path and 1x D.Sphere, what is your other removal for choice like Condemn, Oust or even Blessed Alliance? Seems to me that Oust is showing up more often in lists than the others but I don't know why.
Also, say you're running 4x Terminus, is it justified to run a copy or two of Telling Time along with 4x Opt?
Apologies in advance if this has been discussed before in this thread but I gotta ask, is Nicol Bolas, the Ravager a legitimate threat to be considered as a win condition in a Grixis Control shell? Does anyone have an input about it?
How would you explain to someone the huge dominance of Teferi over Jace?
During the time DOM came out I was very much away from Magic and it really took me by surprise to see that Teferi was overwhelmingly favored over Jace. You know, the "omg jace op wotc y unban".
I just wanna what I missed because I have not been following Magic for a while.
I'd like to bring your attention to this from the spoilers of Dominaria.
"Karn's Temporal Sundering

Legendary Sorcery
(You may cast a legendary sorcery only if you control a legendary creature or planeswalker.)
Target player takes an extra turn after this one. Return up to one target nonland permanent to its owner's hand. Exile Karn's Temporal Sundering."
Of course, the red text killed the card for us I think. That's a shame.
MOCS lists are up. Corey cut down to a single Jace.
Well well well. I can't wait for his reasoning behind this as he was one of the many that advocated against the unbanning. Not that I fault him or anything but I'm really curious to know how you'd go from 4 copy of Jaces to 1.
Casting spells from graveyards isn't something new to us. We already had access to Snap and baby Jace. What's the endgame here?
