I would be surprised is Dredge got a ban strictly because it hasn't put up any wins. In nearly all of their ban announcements they site disproportionate top 8s in addition to meta game share. If the player base chooses to play a deck that doesn't win, that's fine. That means that players are having fun doing new things and it isn't basing the health of the format.

To the control deck discussion, Grixis is far from terrible, and is the closest thing to a traditional control deck in modern. Since the opportunity cost from fetches and shocks is the same for 2 or 3 colors, grixis control is essentially a UR control deck with a cruel side.

The cost of modern? Sure. Tarmogoyf is now $100. That's great because it means that the trickling in of cards through MM and EMN is working. It's not tanking the market, while slowly making it more accessible. The thing those sets do isn't drop the prices suddenly (which would cause a horrible response from the player base that invested heavily over the years), but they keep the prices from rising too steeply as interest in the format goes up.

Hey all, I've been playing Modern and Commander/Duel commander for a few years now. I'm looking to start playing standard over the next couple months. In modern I play Bant Eldrazi primarily, but also RB Control (Blitzkrieg - it plays like Jund with Blood Moon and no tarmogoyfs), Grixis Delver, Latern Control, and Bogles. At least those are the decks I own/have played that I like the most.

I know Standard is just another investment, and I'll be moving into that format over the next couple of months because I'm moving and that's what most people play where I'll be going. I'm hoping to just not embarrass myself at an FNM, and be able to go 3-1 or so with clever play.

Is there currently a cruel control type deck that exists in standard? You know the type were two people sit down to play magic, but only one of you actually gets to play?

Or is there a viable tempo interactive deck that I should start looking at that plays more like grixis delver?

Not looking to break the bank here. I don't feel the need to invest in T1 stuff. Just something budget-ish that will keep me from losing every Friday night and fits that type of play style.

    Thanks all.

    Congratulations, smash!!!!

That's really awesome. The deck looks great and really well tuned. I'll have to sleeve it up and give it a go.

But mostly, congrats! That win is huge, brother.

How important is running 12 fetches? Just curious about people's opinions. I noticed elvengu's deck ran 12, and some others only run 8. Other than the additional consistency, elvengu, was there a reason for running 12? Would you cut it to 10 or 11 for the marginal life loss factor, or was this not a problem for you? How much damage were you taking during a game from your mana base?

It seems like eternal scourge + gemstone caverns warrants adding a second gemstone caverns? I know 2 in the opener is painful, but with only 2-of it may be statistically low enough to be worth the extra card advantage.

Cast the card, sacrifice matter reshaper for paying of the cost. Its trigger goes on the stack. Then deep fiend cast goes on the stack. Then sanctum of Ugin trigger happens. Sanctum trigger on top, and I dont know if you can choose the order of the deep fiend cast and reshaper or not. (Or if it would matter)

I don't have time for a lot of MTG these days, but I've been playing a few games in the queues lately once a week or so, and I've been playing this deck. I like it a lot. It has a lot of interaction and is a good fit for my playstyle.

One thing, has anyone played against the Nahiri deck that runs Boom // Bust and 4 copies of Blood Moon main deck? Its basically miserable in my opinion. I misplayed to lose the first game, not attacking with both my Spellskite and other critter to be able to redirect Nahiri's -2 that I knew was coming. I did this twice in a row (like a fool... I was tired). The second game ended with T2 Blood Moon into a T4 Goblin Dark Dwellers recurring Lightning Helix to take care of my threats.

    Here's the deck I'm talking about: http://www.gatheringmagic.com/carlos-gutierrez-06242016-scorched-earth/

Anyone played this one? Any advice?

My experience with Bogles in a small meta is that people will bring in 3-4 specific hate cards just for me Wink Chalice is a common one since we shut down from it. Give them time. A deck like this paints a target on your back for some reason. Gets a lot of hate from others IMHO.

Although my favorite night was after playing a Rakdos build (see signature line for Blitzkrieg) every night for a few weeks, people walked in and saw my playing casually with 8-rack. Sit down at the table, Turn 1 Bogles -> go. The reaction was priceless because they were completely unprepared for my new deck at the time.

Congrats on your early success! Bogles is a much more consistent deck than I thought originally, and I enjoy playing it a lot. I'm glad you do too.

I had the same thought about Eldrich Evolution. It seems like a great fit.

I think the 3 drop 3/3 eldrazi guy that you can cast from exile is another good way for us to deal with top deck mode.

Really feeling Bloodhall-priest as a 2-of or so potential finisher here. I'll certainly be testing this after release.

Been absent for a while. Grad school has been kicking my butt on top of a new job and small kid at home. No time for MTG outside of maybe an hour or two a week for MTGO, and I've been playing (usually) Bogles because its easier to pilot when exhausted than this one. I'll be sleeving this up for some events come August, and may even make the trip up north in Italy for the GP for side events even though I'm not in standard.

I just wanted to say thanks for carrying the Blitzkrieg torch, and its great to see so many new faces here! I'll be testing again in about 6 weeks when school is done and can't wait to try the BR Blood Moon maindeck versions of this. I've continued to read and can't say enough how grateful I am for the community on this particular thread. Its nice to see people excited about innovation!

I would think most of the time that GDD coming down turn 6 or 7 hitting Bust is good game in this build. No need to consider too heavily how to recover from your own game plan.

I play Anafenza Abzan tempo in duel commander and it's a similar philosophy. The goal is to rapidly get a dominant board state and then before your opponent stabilizes to tutor/cast Armageddon or Ravages of War. In Blitzkrieg it would be more to keep the board empty killing everything and stripping hands to top deck mode to get only the small advantage needed to win via world ending resource denial. Just like the plan is to drop Angler or Obliterator on a denied board state and hand so that its unanswerable, doing so with GDD helps mitigate the top deck answers.

From the BR Jund deck that Raystack posted I thought it might be important to not the interaction between Goblin Dark-Dwellers and Boom // Bust if you didn't already know it. The Goblins only see the Boom side for CMC, but you can cast either side of it at not cost. If playing boom // Bust, its worth exploring this interaction.

Hey everyone. Just started playing this deck on MTGO. Like it. I played colorless Eldrazi during their "reign of terror." and I miss playing broken stuff. Played a couple games in the queues and it certainly feels powerful and enjoyable to play.

Wall of Omens: Would this card make turn 2 a little clunky since there's typically 3 mana available? I love this card, and it seems to fit the control side of this deck's disruptive behavior (see Drowner of Hope's name in that it just makes opponent's attacks null which this card can do while we take our time to get set up). It still seems worth testing, though.

Warping Wail: I've loved this card in action. It is great. In here it can help ensure 4-5 mana on T3. It was great in Colorless Eldrazi and I always main decked 1-2. I'll begin testing this one and Wall of Omens.

I know I'm dealing in fantasy maybe it will be great land but what about the new 3 drop go grab an eldrazi card? Would a "toolbox" eldrazi sideboard be worth the effort? I'll stick to cards we have now from here on out.

Have you found running 2 plains to be critical? I keep thinking about going to only one of each basic since land hate has decreased a bit since the fall of eldrazi.
