Feb 18, 2018WizardMN posted a message on "What Deck Should I Play" threadI second darksteel88's thoughts. GDS is different than Delver to be sure, but the overlap in cards enough where you probably don't need to pick up a lot of cards. I would add Gurmag Angler to the list of cards you want (though it is a common so won't break the bank). I have GDS put together for my brother-in-law and we don't play Liliana of the Veil at all and it still seems to perform fairly well. It is also very interactive and can be skill intensive to play. If you dislike Storm due to the lack of interactivity, GDS might be right up your alley.Posted in: Modern

darksteel88 posted a message on "What Deck Should I Play" threadPosted in: ModernQuote from Hakkai_Requiem »Hello! I own Grixis Delver (just miss a few recent inclusions with the most notable one being Collected Brutality). I also own 1x cryptic Command and 1xAncestral Vision for EDH purposes. The Delver deck got bad, overshadowed by Grixis Death Shadow and Grixis Control, so I switched to storm, which now I own, but I don't really like to play it as I am not a fan of uninteractive combo decks.
If I wanted to build a new modern deck without spending a lot of money (let's say I can justify spending 50-60€), what should I buy into?
I admit most of the choices I was considering are now almost surely out of budget because they'll want to include Jace
Please, don't factor Shocklands and KTK-fetches in the budget as I'm going to eventually buy them anyway so consider them "free" for the purpose of discussion
Probably only Grixis Death's Shadow is viable for you. Every deck not base blue is too expensive, and any blue deck requiring Cryptic Command is going to be too expensive (two Cryptics will break your budget). UW decks are likely going to want Colonnade, which also breaks your budget. So you have to be base UR and not playing white, while also not being a control deck.
For GDS, you probably only need to grab Tasigur and Death's Shadow. The rest of it you should hopefully have, or be able to substitute (i.e. no Liliana isn't the worst). -

benjameenbear posted a message on [[Primer]] Teferi, Mage of ZhalfirHakkai, you bring up some good points. Under a Knowledge Pool, counterspells are definitely not good for the reasons that you state above. Honestly, I don't particularly prefer this particular lock because it makes the game drag on for what feels like forever. Once the Knowledge Pool + Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir lock is achieved, the best thing to do is to turn Teferi sideways. Yup. Takes freaking forever, because you basically have to rely on what your opponents put under the Pool. Which is never a good idea. I think the goal of this deck is to keep the field clear of things bigger than Teferi and than beat them with his wooden, curvy staff.Posted in: Multiplayer Commander Decklists
Palinchron is devilishly hard to tutor for in mono-Blue. That is why card selection and card draw are so important for mono-Blue. You can't selectively find a silver bullet as easily as black allows (except for artifacts), so you need to rely on draw density to get into a combo. It becomes a lot easier when you are drawing 2+ cards per turn and controlling the board to execute the combo with minimal pieces.
I personally have been testing a Teferi, Temporal Archmage list for my Memnarch deck because Blue can find artifacts so easily and a particular one goes infinite with only a few artifacts ramp pieces, sometimes only one. It's been incredibly consistent and still features Memnarch as the kill condition. I'm going to add a section dedicated to it in my Primer in the second post, once internet is finally installed at my new house. -

cfusionpm posted a message on Current Modern Banlist Discussion (4/4/2016 - Eye of Ugin banned, Ancestral Vision/Sword of the Meek unbanned)Posted in: Modern ArchivesQuote from GustavitoHouses »I think that the piece of april 4th said something about them testing versions of Eldrazi with and without Eye, same for Temple.
Those two unbans couldnt came out of nowhere. AV and SotM are easily the most risky unbans they made up to now (modern for sure, i dont know in history of magic if they had made other risky unbans?).
Thats what makes me happy about the update in the banlist. They seem to start giving modern a little thought and caring, including playtesting a little bit, or maybe they just hearing the people´s voice?. Either way, it is a New Modern since april 4th, 2016.
Feels less like: "We put extensive thought and testing into the format and have concluded that these would have the best impact on the metagame and Modern ecosystem moving forward."
Feels more like: "We're sorry for banning Twin. We're sorry for ruining Modern with Eldrazi the last 3 months. Have some toys and let's hope it makes all those pissed off blue players happy." -

Yandere Sliver posted a message on Conspiracy 2: Take the CrownHer new picture is definitely more stunning then her old one. And I agree she looks younger.Posted in: Magic Storyline
But the Custodi seem to be capable of extending ones life. It just backfired on Brago. So perhaps she did became younger.
However Marchesa on the throne is probably one of my favored magic artworks of all time. -

For real, I am absolutely loving this marketing and all of this artwork. I adore anything related to Conspiracy/Paliano and I welcome this sequel with open arms (and a guarded back). -

It's mainboard Empty the Warrens, sb into semi-control Kiki-resto.
I can't recall the full details of each games, but i pretty much had everyone turning the wrong way in game 2. They'd side in graveyard hate and stuffs, while I dodge fully on whatever hate they bring (them slamming Rest in Peace on turn 2 is really hilarious)
There was also a game post-sb in which my opp face went from "eh? why is there a plains in your deck...?" to "hah? since when storm plays Resto?" to "5 mana with 3 red...? wait... no... YOU DON'T SAY.." ended with "wtf which idiot does this in a storm deck!!?!?"
I with a lot of luck won 2-0 against a Jund deck as well, he kept drawing lands, while i sandbag a few rituals waiting to draw into Empty the Warrens
Last round versus a Bloomless bloom.
Round 1 made 8 goblins on turn 2 (on the draw), he can't deal with them.
Post-sb, started without amulet, and he transmuted to search for summoning pact, but without mana to cast the titan, thus waiting for a turn. I topdecked a Vendilion Clique, and cast it upon his draw step to take away the pact. 2 resto in subsequent draw steps kept him out of drawing anything relevant, and 3dmg in the air really adds up.
The tweak was solely for fun, I didn't expect any results though. But somehow won the FNM, putting quite a solid result of 2-1, 2-0, 2-0.
The tricky part is to play mind games with opponent post-sb, let them guess
Change I'd make, is to up Young pyromancer count to 4.
Hope you guys had a laugh reading this post
