A New and Exciting Beginning
The End of an Era
  • posted a message on I've been hearing murmings everywhere online about this Double Master's Product. Solutions?
Ignoring the manifesto. The simple answer is yes magic is addictive gambling for some people where they have a problem. Magic is additive to most people for it's gambling and money making aspect. That's the basis of the game today. Probably 100x more than it was years ago. You have to go back far in time to find a point where the money aspect was not as big as it is now. There is literally nothing you can do about it. Or you can not play magic the gathering.
Chronicles and the player reaction back then forever set how they handle today's game. I don't even know what the last all reprint core set was ? 8th edition maybe. I looked it up it was Tenth Edition 2007-07. So wizards has not given a crap about making the game affordable for new players since 2007!

Today there are a billion products. Each new one increasing the gambling aspect such as expeditions. They aren't going to stop printing secret lairs either. Mythics where a gambling increase. You have to know what you're getting into. $4 for a pack of paper is nuts. If there wasn't Game+gambling+money cards+winning prizes+surprise factor of opening a pack+status of having some cards +etc. There wouldn't be a game. It would have died a long time ago. There are a lot of defunct card games out there. Some of them are just as fun to play as magic.

I don't mean to sound preachy here but I've recently come to the realization that we REALLY need to stop living in a material mindset and more on an eternal mindset when it comes to how we view the world and our own personal environment because If we don't then we end up destroying ourselves through the excessive monetization of our own selfish gaming hobbies that's been a HUGE burden to LGS owners and employees who are really just looking for money to retire on instead of providing a lifestyle for everyone else at the expense of their own misery. A lot of times passion gets in the way of what people truly want in life where they don't often think of the risks they take and whether If they're going to get some kind of long term reward for their efforts. We're already seeing the case now where the risk was never worth the reward because they didn't take extra precautions to keep their businesses safe in preparation for a financial or in this case a public health crisis like COVID-19.

While I do still believe in the importance of human congregation in these challenging times we're in right now, it's hard to make an argument that the public social impact it's made within Tabletop Gaming was a less enjoyable experience than Triple A Video Games / eSports in general. The only reason why it would be less enjoyable is because people didn't want to put in the effort to make it possible or that the Pay-to-Win / Loot Crate aspect to keep it going just wasn't affordable anymore for most people. Video Games originally didn't require actual money to upgrade people with when all that changed when companies started to monetize consumers (DLCs / Micro-transactions) because they were old enough to afford the costs compared to how young they were back then where they couldn't. I guess my point is that there's still going to be people who are wanting that "fix" when it could've otherwise led them down a path of drug abuse and alcohol addiction leading to more serious health issues (not excluding COVID-19 but you get the point).

You are all over the place in this post. Please restate your argument or point. You seem like you are trying to input a belief system but I still have no idea what you are talking about. All I got from that is that you want people to renounce material possessions in search of some kind of eternal happiness. That's impossible. Feel free to expand the thread it's your thread. Take a breath and get off of the internet for a while.

Most stores besides mega corporations are struggling currently. Most stores have been closed by executive order for the past two months. If an LGS has a low operating margin then even if they open today they would need 3x or more their normal business to make up the loss. Many businesses are already out of business and will never open their doors again. However you can't substitute online play for paper magic. Whenever something becomes virtual it loses it's value much faster. I've seen a lot of LGS's adapt their business model in the past. Some added computer gaming, some did table top rental space, video game rental space or expanding their product lines.
As to what are they doing now? It's more of a grab and go place. You can't sit down and play a game against someone. It's unfortunate.
They can do limited traffic flow or curb side pick up. Selling on an online store that doesn't belong to you sucks. Ebay plus paypal takes about 13%. Where processing credit cards takes only 3%. Cash is always best for a small business.

If you're selling a luxury paper product and people need to pay rent. No one is going to buy your luxury paper product. But they will be buying toilet paper! Smile

Be prepared for a massive amount of bankruptcies.
An LGS is too small of business for the government to care about. If a business was making less then a million a year I highly doubt it got any money from the PPP in the United States. I don't have any good news or suggestions for you on this. Best case scenario is online orders sustain the business until it can re-open more. Or it closes forever. Maybe someone else buys the stores and creates a new store there.

Also things are going to start to get wild soon. The PPP program in the USA was only good for 8 weeks of pay for a company. That's going to be over 2nd week of June for a lot of places.

Okay. They have won me over to the side of the secret layers. Reprints! As long as they just keep pumping out a new one every month. I will also accept 2x a month or even every week. I did previously have an issue with the product and how over priced it is. But now I don't care. I'm not buying them. Maybe someone likes this horrible art.

I can't get excited about any new magic cards due to corona virus. I get to look at the new cards. Then not buy them. Previews will be a nice little surprise for the day. But then I'll again be reminded of wizards crazy number of products. Their business model is differentiated now for sure between low margin standard sets and high margin special products. I can't imagine a teenager getting into the game anymore. If anything the card pool is just too big.
They need to change their plan up. Retire Vintage. Retire Legacy. If commander is going to be a thing going forward. They insist on keeping the reserved list after all this time, ban all of those cards. M sets /core sets get 2-3 high end reprints to sell them. Then nothing. Core sets have lost their purpose of reprinting cards forever ago.
Brawl was a stupid invention to sell even more products. Brawl needs be Retired.
Thanks Corona Virus for saving me a ton of money! I'll be having my next booster draft sometime in 2021!

attachment has the price listings for preorder on Amazon.

For $300 a booster box so the cost to the store or re-seller is probably $200. Cost to wizards is probably $40. Wizards is using these sets to make a higher margin percentage. In the same way it costs them $5 to make secret lair but they sell it to you for $40 or $50. I'm not buying anything due to corona virus so they can release anything they want. If I can't even go to my friends to play there isn't any point. I'm not going to hope really hard that every person that person X has come into contact with over the past 14 days is virus free.

Please, Wizards, just stop. We don’t need alt art of every rare. We are fatigued with extended art, alt art, Anime art, Godzilla foil alt frame cards. At this point the alt arts are not special anymore. No more fairy tales, cartoon kaiju cards, and teen Titan feeling artwork.

Please go back to magic being Summons and demonic feel. I want to be called a devil worshipers again for playing magic.

For the love of god, fix your card stock, the past Two product have Over saturated Ink on thinner card stock.

I will agree with poor quality of the card stock. Or at least the hit or miss quality as there seems to be more than one printer.
I'm fine with more alternate art. But due to corona virus I'm not sure I'll even be buying cards in August. If I can't play in person then I don't need to spend any money on cards. I'm fairly certain I won't be able to play again till May 2021.

  • posted a message on Would you like to see a return to mirrodin?
They had a complete set planned out for a mirrodin reborn where the phyrexian lost. They didn't print it because the story line was better dark. I can't remember what that set was called. Old leaked photos had booster box images and boosters. It's been years and years. They will go back they have the story already built. It's somewhere in the bowels of mtg salvation and the internet.
    I found it. https://mtg.gamepedia.com/Mirrodin_Pure

I have been googling to try and see if their was a Godzilla art book for all of the cards they have printed. I haven't found anything.
If anyone knows about an upcoming art book can you link me to it ?

It would be for more than one deck. I do have some mono colors decks. I have 10 or more decks I could slot these into.
I would actually like to know if there is an art book for the godzilla cards coming out ? I haven't seen one announced.

My issue with this is for me to actually use this product. I'd need at least 30x to 40x of each land for decks. I can't spend that kind of money on basic lands. It just doesn't do anything for me. So I'd need to spend $1,200 on basic lands. Seems insane. Going to pass.

At this point they should just alter their time line a lot more. Push all of the releases way out. Push all of the rotations way out. The world isn't going to get back to normal until maybe January 2021. Their is going to a large virus 2nd wave once it's warm outside.

This is very nice. I like the come into play tapped design, plus cycling. It has been done, but I never thought that were would be tri cycle basic lands. If you're deck is 3 colors these feel like an automatic inclusion. If anything this makes 5 color decks very possible. You would only need to include 4x of these type of lands. Fetch them as needed.

I wonder if they just had a lot of left over mystery boosters that no one was buying. There isn't going to be a release event. The only option at this point is buy your cards and leave. To be a bit more realistic. Most businesses that don't sell food or medicine will still be closed the entire month of April. Possibly even May. No one should be playing any paper magic until June. I'm fine with whatever they have planned to give stores.
A lot of people are not following the social distancing rules. So many it's scary.
Sign up for cockatrice or some other online magic program.
I've been video gaming this past week alone. While my neighbors having been throwing daily parties.

Wizards decided they wanted to make more money. I'm still waiting for the end of the reserve list. Depends how much money they want to make. Either way this doesn't matter. Magic as a whole is going to tank for the next month at least due to the virus. Likely 3 months as everyone avoids social contact. Even if other sporting events re-open people will be hesitant to attend them. It's going to sell. You will just have to wear a mask to go outside and play. haha. It's getting nuts out there.
