Strange that it’s not “X or less” to allow for more fairies.

I was thinking the same thing, but I suppose they wanted to limit the number of tokens a blue deck can make. I'm thinking Risen Reef decks already ramp so hard. I don't know if I'm ready for that. Lol

Oh god this is what, the fifth "clever" pentacolor legend in the last two years?
It's also the third white one
    Impressively boring and generic...
Yeah, they've been overdoing that design style and rarely do true 5-color commanders.

Probably, because it's easier to design.

Not to mention there are a ton of full WUBRG legends already:

And as of ELD, there will be seven "one and all" legends:

General Tazri: WUBRG legend for Allies.
Ramos, Dragon Engine: Flavor throwback to Mercadian Masques, served as a WUBRG commander for the Dragons deck.
Najeela, the Blade-Blossom: WUBRG legend for Warriors.
Sisay, Weatherlight Captain: WUBRG legend for the WUBRG Weatherlight crew.
Golos, Tireless Pilgrim: Tutors lands and helps mana fix.
Morophon, the Boundless: WUBRG legend for whatever tribe you please.
Kenrith, the Returned King: WUBRG King Arthur for Knights, Wizards, and all the other Arthurian goodness.

I like them, as they can hit design space that full WUBRG really can't. For example, let's say someone wanted a WUBRG Elf legend. Now Elves are good at tapping for mana, but most only tap for G. A legend that grants "T: Add one mana of any color" to your Elves would be highly useful. But that's a bit wasted on a WUBRG legend, as by the time you cast that you don't really need color fixing anymore. However, what if the Elf legend cost 2G? To make the WUBRG part less of a gimme, the legend gives Elves you control "T: Add one mana of any color in this creature's color identity". Then not only do you have a commander that helps you color fix and ramp (they can tap for one mana of any color, helping you cast multicolor Elves), you also have a reward for playing Elves of all five colors.

Point is, making WUBRG legends actually cost WUBRG all the time puts contraints on what functional designs you can make. For starters, you can't make a legend that costs less than 5 mana. Not every commander wants a cmc of 5+. There's also the fact a solid WUBRG commander is harder to reliably cast. A monocolor or even colorless commander with WUBRG identity is easier to play, thanks to the option of a lower cmc and requiring fewer colors to play.

At any rate, these kinds of WUBRG legends are every bit as valid as "true" WUBRG legends.

I love this post, and I highly agree. I also happen to love Group Hug decks in EDH, and this is the first 5-color commander I find applicable to the archetype. I usually either play Karona and just turn the game into a slugfest, or play Child of Alara, and threaten destruction when people don't play nice. This is actually a really cool design for a Huglord.

does spawn mean they are not put into play or is it just a new wording

That's my bad, I fixed it in the spoiler. It was a side effect of Google translating the German card. The English version will most definitely say create not spawn.

Syr Elenora the Clairvoyant (? Google translate says Perspicacious, that's your word of the day, folks!) 3UU
Legendary Creature - Human Knight Uncommon

Syr Elenora the Clairvoyant's power is equal to the number of cards in your hand.

When Syr Elenora enters the battlefield, draw a card.

Spells your opponents control that target Syr Elenora cost {2} more to cast.

    Sorcery Rare

Return target creature with converted mana cost of X to its owner's hand.
Create X 1/1 bue Fairy creature tokens with flying.

Inhabitants of the wild do not always seek to shade invaders. Sometimes they just get lost.

This random effect is kind of interesting in that each token is similarly powerful, meaning the decks that want this don't have to worry much about power discrepancy. That said, I think the base cost (4 mana) is too high for this effect.

It might be too slow for constructed--we'll see--but I don't think it could be cheaper and make those tokens. Bitterblossomis AMAZING and only makes 1/1's (granted they have flying), but they don't have haste and cost you life every turn.

I like it, but I have to say I don't like that they have to add Haste in the characteristics of each token. Couldn't it just say:

create a red and white creature tokens with those characteristics and haste, or ...with haste and those characteristics?

I've never liked 5 Color commanders, though this one seems pretty straightforward. Made me smile to see his abilities range from 1 to 5 mana in order.

And it's only mildly irritating if you start in the middle and go down, looping around you get WUBRG. Otherwise, you get RGWUB. Frown

This should be good in limited, not soo much exile effects and if you have the Witch's Oven you can keep feeding it with its own meat.

You made me think of this. This card is going to be really strong against decks that don't have any sort of exile effects.

Asides from the fact that I love small green flash creatures (Scryb Ranger, Skylasher, Caller of the Claw, Raging Kavu, Winged Coatl), I love that this time around, in a set with lots of small fliers, they are giving us tons of reach. Stupid Lorwyn faeries deck and nothing to block their flier with! :p

We'll have to wait and see what the rules text for the card actually is. If they didn't mean 'that card' but instead meant 'all cards exiled with ~", then they should have put that in the text.

While I agree that the wording isn't what we normally see, I will say that it seems they been experimenting with new/different templating with this set in general, it seems; so I wouldn't count it out.
