The kithkin harbinger seems kinda lame, but the other three are nice. Use the fairy harbinger as an instant to quickly grab a Spellfumbler Sprite for a counterspell tutor. The giant is a nice size with a tutorable ability. I'd pay five mana for a 4/3 knowing that I would draw Brion Stoutarm or Sunrise Sovereign next turn. The treefolk one is easily got to be my favorite though. Wow...play him turn one and put Doran, the Siege Tower on top of your library, and when Doran comes into play, the harbinger becomes a 3/3. You could even keep a land-light hand with it, because you can tutor a land. Just...plain...awesome...who ever thought treefolk would be the bomb. Grin

Well for the most part they seem kind of boring and probably not that useful, but the Wren's Run Vanquisher should prove to be very playable in standard. As for the Hunter of Eyeblights, that would be a nice combo with Sheltering Ancient. Nice find. Thanks. Grin

If only Doran were to be standard legal with Jagged Poppet-whose ability goes off damage-and Burning-Tree Shaman. With those two and Phyrexian Ironfoot you would have a deck full to the brim of three-cost fatties. You'd have a 5/5 for three, and three different 4/4's for three. Grin

So just to get started. I'm gonna throw out a deck list given just cards we know right now. So take a look and discuss. Lets get some ideas rolling.

Before you start laughing about Vhati il-Dal, just remember that with Doran in play, turning any creature's toughness to one until end of turn, effectively turns it into a 1/1. A near-Humility every turn isn't that bad. Grin

I absolutely love Doran. This card is fun, useful, aggresively costed. There's nothing better than seeing an interesting AND useful take on a cheap creature. Good job wizards!

@intreped and @extarbags: Give it a chance guys, how do you know it's not awesome. You know just as much as us. So stop pretending like you know what a tribal shock is worth in this new block. Seriously, I'm excited to see if there are any good applications for it. I'm not just going to sit around and dog cards I know nothing about just because I think I know what I'm talking about. If you're opponent has Tarmogoyf on the other side of the table Shock nor Tarfire will really help you; but Tarfire might be otherwise 'strictly' better than Shock in this format. Perhaps even cards will exist that care whether a spell is tribal no matter the tribe in question. It's not like Brigid where you can just tell that she is not worth the four mana. Constructed plays too fast for that at the moment. I mean if tribal decks are slow people can always just play TSP block decks.

It should land about in the $6 - $10 dollar range I'm thinking. Good card. Aggro helper. Grin

  • posted a message on Cryptic Command -- viable?
Cryptic Command will be viable indeed! I've always loved the thinking man's game involved with playing blue. I love the versatility of this card and hope to get a few at the PR, if not a play set. I just hope the rest of the cycle is as good. Grin

I enjoy the flavor and usefulness of Lignify. Could potentially offer up some Johnny-relevant usefulness later on. I hope so. Good find and a nice card. Grin

  • posted a message on [LOR] White Planeswalker: Ajani Goldmane
Ajani is by far my least favorite PW so far. His abilities are one-sided and boring. Typical white jank. Martyr has a new win condition in the Serra Avatar, but I hate Martyr decks anyway. Thanks for the info, Hydro. No thanks for the crap, Wizards. Grin

For starters, I expected something like shock for goblins, but honestly I thought Wizards would assume tribal a bonus and make it a sorcery. I cannot complain about it. It makes Tarmack the Knife better. Tribal might really matter on it with more cards, so we'll see. If Hydro's hint means that its tutorable fairly easy, that will be a big bonus.

Brigid...wow...what a flaming pile. Limited playable? Probably. Constructed playable? I doubt it. In fact, even if she was slightly playable in constructed, the fact that her art is so fugly rules it out of anything I'll ever play. I give it a negative 2,107 out of 4.

Thanks a bunch, Hydro and friends. Keep em coming! Grin

  • posted a message on [LOR] OFFICIAL Discussion for Preview Card: 9/13/07: Cryptic Command
I love this card. Modal spells are among my favorite cards in magic, but this takes it to-in the words of Keegan-Michael Key-a whole......nutha'.....level! This card is crazy cool, awesome, and a it will be terribly fun to play in standard. I'd like to give kudos to the design team for creating a card with such a simple design, stemming from what seemed to be such a linear concept, and making it exceptionally new. I love it and cannot wait to see the rest of the cycle. Grin

  • posted a message on [LOR] Secluded Glen... (First post updated)!
These lands are pretty cool. I cannot wait to play tribal as it was fun playing elves at states in Onslaught-era standard. These lands are awesome. The old cipt lands are really good, and these are an upgrade. The only reason anyone here says they don't like them, is because the RAV duals spoiled them. You cannot always have busted land fixers, and if you play tribal these are RAV duals w/o the 2 life untap. Great find, Hydro. Good job! I love you and I love these duals. Grin

  • posted a message on [LOR] Official Hydro... preview: Oblivion Ring
I absolutely love this card. Thanks Hydro! I've been reading rumor mill since it was only existent on mtgnews, and this is the card I'm most excited about in all that time. Play Oblivion Ring targeting anything you want, and then play Patrician's Scorn for free to remove it. Sure it's two cards, but I'd pay three mana and pitch a card to remove any threat I didn't like. • posted a message on Rings of Brighthearth -- Build It a Combo Deck!!
I think this will be fun in casual as a deck theme, but for constructed I can only see it being good if we can find a combo deck for it. What abilities can you think of in standard that could end the game quickly if doubled?

Please discuss and post your thoughts here.
