Yes, I know, probably not the card Maro means, but for someone who always likes to be tricky with technicalities it's poor form if Mishra's melded version is actually the second. For shame, Maro.
Maybe he isn't counting that because the previous meld cards don't work in constructed.
I have been waiting so long for a Gix card, it can be pretty awful and I'll still play it in tournaments; but my shot in the dark is that the
With the glut of Monored haste in lower ranked and unranked on arena, it was the only life gain to get you back out of the hole against red. While it was definitely over tuned, I wish there were at least some other serviceable early game board wipes.
Even Doomskar, again. It doesn't have to be black, but there is so much haste in Standard, right now, even Temporary Lockdown barely does anything.
At least having other lower CMC board wipes could help stem the aggro tide. Standard hasn't been able to find a solid Aggro • Midrange • Control balance in a long time; and WotC clearly doesn't like Johnny's, anymore.
I'd been in discussion with the MTGS staff about the need for some moderation in the CCC forum, and they agreed to let me take responsibility. I've done a little house cleaning and organizing, but not much is going to change. Here's what's new:
First, the SPIRIT OF THE CARD CREATION FORUM is a short mission statement for new and current posters to help keep discussions on track and from occasionally spiraling out of control. Also, some of the old pinned resources from the subforum are linked through that post so they are still accessible without clogging up the main page.
The old Single Card Contest thread has been moved to the Contests sub-sub-forum.
Some old announcement posts about when MTGS was merging/going out of business have been deleted.
Now I am just hoping for a good 2 mana Zombie Lord in Black. I get a sinking feeling that we are going to see a Phyrexian lord though.
I kind of hope so purely for the fact that so far in a set that marks the "invasion" of Dominaria there are few phyrexians and nothing to tie the tribe together, at all. Just random junk.
all these new lords are ridiculously pushed... damn.
about this guy right there.... it's going to make the historic elf decks with the dudes that generate a billion mana even more explosive hahah damn
I play elfball in Explorer, sometimes too, and Marwyn loves the 2 CMC lords we currently have, because they make her tap for 2 more mana by themselves.
What I see is a worse mana confluence since it only does one color and even with chromatic lantern effects on it that still makes it a slightly better city of brass (the last ability)
but still very usable if you deck is related to gate matters decks particularly maze's end edh or Nine-Fingers Keene
It's definitely more valuable in a gates deck; but as I said there are also more ways to tutor for gates than there are Mana Confluence.
Wait - Turg as in Ambassador Laquatus's minion from the Odyssey novel?
Now there's one callback I never expected.
Yeah, that one.
While I said it was a possibility:
What if "a character players have been requesting get a card for years finally gets one" and "Legendary Creature - Frog Beast" are the same? Anurids from Odyssey block were Frog Beasts, and Ambassador Laquatus had one named Turg. Laquatus was a Merfolk Wizard, too. Maybe he's the legendary Phyrexian Merfolk Wizard. Plus: I'd love to see Brushhooper get a reprint. Mystic Enforcer would be fun, too.
I was secretly hoping for Anurid Brushhopper back. I was also ignoring that Aboshan's battle squid had ripped good ol' Turg in half, even if he could live until whatever year this is on Dominaria.
Maybe he isn't counting that because the previous meld cards don't work in constructed.

is Gix-related.
Maybe instead of Fynn reading
Whenever a creature you control with deathtouch deals combat damage to a player, that player gets two poison counters,
it could just read:
Creatures you control with deathtouch gain toxic 2.
Then Marsh Viper could be more elegantly printed as:
Marsh Viper 3G
Creature — Snake
Toxic 2
1/2
Though, perhaps it should be Venomous and not Toxic, but that's another can of worms.
We do already have Poisonous, though, in Virulent Sliver.
So maybe it is more to do with being toxic in the actual sense.
Maybe something like: When this creature dies, target opponent gets X poison counters.
I'd take any of the old standbys:
Even Doomskar, again. It doesn't have to be black, but there is so much haste in Standard, right now, even Temporary Lockdown barely does anything.

Welcome to the family!
MaRo answered a question nine days ago—on August 29, 2022—about this same thing on his blog: Blogatog.
He weighed in on the discussion elsewhere, too; but I can't currently find that. I'll update if I do.
Also, moving this thread.
After Jodah, Archmage Eternal, I expected this to get some awesome art; but in this art Jodah looks like he's coming down off a bender.
Vastly better than Callous Bloodmage simply because of creature types.
I have a pet Vial Wizards deck I call Boltcaster that uses Naban, Dean of Iteration and Harmonic Prodigy. This being a wizard is immense. Slots in next to Snapcaster Mage and Sea Gate Stormcaller.
I kind of hope so purely for the fact that so far in a set that marks the "invasion" of Dominaria there are few phyrexians and nothing to tie the tribe together, at all. Just random junk.
I know they don't like to do protection as much, anymore, but I would have loved White & Black knights back for the occasion, or even Silver.
I play elfball in Explorer, sometimes too, and Marwyn loves the 2 CMC lords we currently have, because they make her tap for 2 more mana by themselves.
Currently:
T1: Llanowar Elves or Elvish Mystic
T2: Marwyn
T3: Elvish Warmaster, Elvish Clancaller => Marwyn taps for 5, Cast the Great Henge with 1 floating from Marwyn + Henge mana left for the turn, on turn 3. Usually I just leave it until my next turn with Heroic Intervention mana up.
Having another 2 CMC lord is awesome.
It's definitely more valuable in a gates deck; but as I said there are also more ways to tutor for gates than there are Mana Confluence.
Besides, aren't they both just worse City of Brass?
City of Brass + Urza's Armor (Or Blessed Sanctuary; Purity; Pariah + Stuffy Doll)! Beat that Mana Confluence!
Or if you really wanna trigger things for no reason: Flowering Field enchanting City of Brass. Tap it just to prevent its own damage!
