This can get out of hand reaal fast, I can see it being played in Standard, if you get to swing with Vodalian Hexcatcher after playing this card things can get bad for the opponent, and let's not forget we're getting a Merfolk 1-drop that can start out as a 2/2, and I'd be surprised if they do not print at least another 1-drop Merfolk in Blue, so it's not unreasonable to expect getting a token out of the card the turn you play it.
I feel like they put the reminder text on the wrong chapter. Who can remember what a wicked role is? But I want reminder text on everything because I like when cards say what they do.
You do have a point, but the Role token has its own text describing what it does so it's not such a problem, at least in the prerelease, where I'd assume prerelease packs will have the tokens included.
Barter in Blood got quite the upgrade here, I fully expect this to see play in Standard in control or midrange decks where it can double as a burn spell to close the game every now and then, besides being a playable sweeper.
Wow, this makes the XB Faerie-themed removal spell even better. -4/-4 at instant speed for just B? That's a bargain, at 4 MV without Flash or Ward I don't see this being played in Standard, but pick it high if you wanna draft Dimir Faeries.
Sleep-Cursed Faerie is gonna be best friends with the Looter+Lazav faerie. Loot her away then pay 1 to get a 3/3 flyer with Ward 2 without any downsides. Too bad both are rare so it's not going to be so feasible to pull off in Limited, but I can see the Sleeper showing up in Standard if Dimir Faeries proves viable, it may not do jack squat against aggro as an early blocker but turning on the Faerie-based counter and the XB removal while forcing opponents to pay at least 4 mana to kill it since it dodges Cut Down may be worth the wait until it finally untaps.
Candy Trail seems potentially very useful. It's sort of s colorless Revitalize and when you're trying to play control out of life gain colors, that's huge.
I agree, Candy Trail is better than what it seems to be at first sight, the ETB Scry 2 on top of a Revitalize effect can be huge. I can't envision not playing it in Limited considering how cheap it is. I'd be more wary of putting this in a Monoblue SB since 3 life is probably not going to help much against go-wide aggro, Toxic in particular, though burn-heavy red decks really hate it if you manage to cash two of these in.
Yeah I really wish this was trigger on death instead of sac, but I love a menace for R. It'e the kind of card you want to play with chapter two of Kumano
While T1 Kumano Faces Kakkazan makes this better, Phoenix Chick is probably a better option for this slot since it may sometimes come back from the grave, not to mention Haste Monastery Swiftspear lacks evasion but still has haste. This is not as good as Bomat Courier either since the former doesn't need to actually deal damage in order to be sacrificed for cards. I'd take Charming Scoundrel+Treasure from this set instead of Eldraine Fried Chicken here.
If y'all are consistently keeping 3 creatures on the field and not just swinging into a wall you're doing better than me. Menace seems way more applicable than flying.
You don't need to keep 3 creatures on the field, you just need to swing with Squee, Dubious Monarch for the second time, or 2 creatures and flip a Kumano Faces Kakkazan, etc. I've pulled the "swing with everybody and bring Phoenix Chick back" move a few times with Monored, Menace<Flying+Haste. Also, the convoluted activation really hurts this card, late in the game you can sac Bomat Courier in response to removal, while with Eldraine Fried Chicken you need to connect with it, sure, it has menace, but a 1/1 isn't probably going to take two blockers down with it.
I think this card can push Dimir Faeries to playable in Standard. Its sort of floor is seeing play. Any Faerie turns it into good ol' Mana Leak and two push it above the usual rate for Standard (Scatter Ray or Assimilate Essence don't count since those have type restrictions). I can see a Dimir Faeries shell with Kaito Shizuki as the guest of honor making some noise in the upcoming months.
Impede Momentum has been obsoleted in just two sets. I always thought the former was on the verge of playability as a SB card for Blue-based tempo decks, maybe the Scry 2 will give this new version a chance, tap+3 stun counters counts almost as removal if the creature doesn't have any activated or static abilities that hinder your attack plan. Too bad Mocking Sprite is a common, the Haughty Djinn effect is nothing to scoff at, but as a 2/1 this needed at least Flash to make it less vulnerable, and that would have been a cool rare Faerie.

It's conditional. Red doesn't get looting but rummaging, you have to discard before you draw, so there'll be times when you'd rather have the Treasure or even the buff, but it's still a pretty solid card, especially hot on the heels of a T1 Kumano Faces Kakkazan.
That removal spell is gonna be a high pick, it's playable without Faeries in your deck, and really powerful if you're playing Faeries, most notably because the extra -3/-3 is locked in as you cast it, so killing your (assuming it's the only one) Faerie in response won't matter.
I want this for Monored already, this is such a good follow up to T1Kumano Faces Kakkazan, depending on the case you can pick a Treasure so you can play another 1-drop or a burn spell, or set up a T3Thundering Raiju, drop a hasty 3/3 with a free ping on death, or cycle away your worst card while getting a hasty 2/2. I've never been a fan of 4xBloodthirsty Adversary so I play a split with Feldon, Ronom Excavator. I'm definitely trying her in place of Feldon for starters.
