it has a lot of issues one of the biggest ones being the troublesome creatures below....that being said in my testing im actually cutting it. I would rather bump up another card to an additional copy then be praying i draw a piracy charm for their t1 lavamancer.
If i had to guess it comes down to the simple math of the deck. the difference between 3 and 4 is huge. I can't imagine many times i would be happy for 3 pump for 2 mana. However the other 2 modes seem great. Especially the last since we have very little interaction. Maybe a one of but i think the deck is too tight to be cutting for cards like that.
The pod matchup is AWFUL. that is the only matchup i cant seem to make over 30%. Delver really depends on the build and the player. Since it is a cheap deck to build many newcomers to the format build it. That being said with treasure cruise lots of veterans play it as well. It is difficult to beat delver if their draw is good and the player is skilled. Burn on the other hand i havent had any issue with i actually took my dragons claws completely out of my board. To be fair i haven't had too much tournament play against it. With all the scrying you do its easy to draw lots of extra cards via goblin guide and turn 4 them.
So far my current competitive record with twin is 10-4-2.(one elite IQ-7 rounds, Two FNMs 5 and 4 rounds) Loses and draws only to delver and pod and a single blue moon deck. Deck has done outstanding against control, burn and mid range strategies and even delver lists when people arent really really proficient players. My loses to delver are only to a top 8 competitor of an elite IQ and Danny jessup who is like 16th on the SCG point leaderboard.(lost to gutshot in the mainboard -_-) That being said i am very satisfied to my current results with this deck and hope to eventually take it to a solid finish. Has anyone figured out a way to make the podmatch not god awful? Ive been satisfied with all my matchups other then pod...
Has anyone tested Forbidden Orchard along side with cards like searing blaze and searing blood ? Wondering if its worth it especially in a 2/3 color burn deck with lots of searing effects
So far pacts have been great. Two might be too many but i feel as if one isnt enough. 1.5 would probbably be perfect but we all know magic doesnt work like that. Pact has deffinatly won me a lot of games. Occasionally you have to use it to not lose in a grindy game then come back but 90% of the time its jut when you probe see they have one piece of interaction then pact. profit.
So I'm just getting back into standard since rotation. Ive traded away all my standard stuff for modern stuff but managed to borrow the cards i needed for a deck for FNM tommorow. Right now Here is my list.
Last FNM was the first time i played standard since good ol mono black. I played R/W midrange which i found the best part of the deck was the sideboarded control elements. So far this list has been extremely consistent in testing but I'm not sure about all the numbers. For so many weird numbers its proven to play the exact same way in all my matches because of dig. Blue black control has prove no be an awful matchup though.. Would love any advice.
I defiantly don't think you want the feed the clan in there. Not worth the slots at all. If your really concerned about the burn/red aggressive match ups just board dragons claws
It's just very good in the meta with lots of delver aggressive strategies and burn in the format. That simple. Like if Jeskai ascendency took off like people thought it would people probably wouldn't be playing siege rhino decks. But when 2 decks make up so much of the format and its a solid card choice it just makes perfect sense.
Been playing around with twin a lot. Not sure what the correct build is but ive been on all in. Delver match up is incredible especially after sideboard. Not sure if pyroclasm is better then anger right now because of cruise. It's kindave a toss up but ive been on anger.
I also want to test a keranos, and a teferai in the board. Right now I'm pretty content with my list though. Might cut the angers for clasms and not sure if i really need 4 claws. So far the only tornament i have taken this list to was an FNM but i did get first( only ten people, four rounds) Beat RUG, UR, AND UWR Delver along with "Rhinos on a boat". Actually beat delver one game on a mull to four on the play being on half as many cards! Still need to test against affinity and burn along with rhino pod.
