I've been looking at this new PC card, Volcano Hellion and I've briefly thought up a deck idea for it. Feel free to give your opinions; I haven't really thought this over much. The idea is to use Rite of Flame and Simian Spirit Guide to cast a Stuffy Doll. If you can cast a Lightning Helix, then you can do 22 damage assuming you haven't been damaged and have gained 3 life from the Helix to your Stuffy Doll while casting a Volcano Hellion.
These are the only cards I've thought of for the deck so far.
Damn some of you guys have had some good luck in packs. My recent luck has been either really bad or average unfortunately. My brother and I DID open a box of Revised that (had god packs) that consisted of mostly rares with a few uncommons. Luckily for us, we had commons from previous boxes.
Then after beginning MTG after quitting after Ice Age, my brother and I opened a GOD box of Prophecy and pulled 6 Avatar of Woes and about 20 total Avatars, which were decently "hot" at the time. Of all the boxes of Urza's Saga that we won in tournaments and the 2 boxes of Tempest I bought, I am disappointed not to have a God box.
Voidmage Husher really isn't a maindeck card. I'd be tempted even to run Children of Korlis over that !
I don't agree that Voidmage Husher not being a maindeck card. While it is not a GREAT card, it is a decent card with a decent effect that at worst may counter someone's activated ability (madness, saprolings, etc.) and then block a bear that has attacked for 4 damage so far.
I LOVE the new Ball Lightning card, Groundbreaker. I was a HUGE fan of the original Ball Lightning and having it as green makes it slightly broken in Type 2 right now. I may need to get 4 Stomping Grounds now.
Since when has green been dominant? Cause I havn't seen it win any thing. Sure it shows up in large numbers just like boros burn but that doesn't make it dominate until it actually wins, consistantly.
I think you meant to say Green Aggro, because :cough: Tooth and Nail :cough:...
When I started Magic for the third time, it was right after Affinity had been banned. I immediately bought the whole Tooth and Nail deck and my record at the tournaments was around 10-0-1. The one tie is from being mana screwed, which seems like it would've happened more often than one tournament in 11 played.
This may be a dumb question, but if my opponent casts Teferi at the EOT, can I cast mortify in response or does Teferi resolve, then I can't cast the mortify? My opponent said I can't cast the mortify if there is no target, then Teferi's ability of an opponent (me) casting spells only as sorceries will be in effect.
I just want to throw this out there; I think people's opinions will depend on what their metagames are and what they've played against.
As an example, I have rarely played against people playing with Ohran Viper or Loxodon Heirarch other than janky decks, so I don't see those as TOP 5 material.
Off the top of my head...
1) Angel of Despair
2) Simic Sky Swallower
3) Firemane Angel
4) Bogardan Hellkite
5) Dark Confidant
HONORABLE MENTION: Spectral Force is a BEAST.
1) Wrath of God
2) Psionic Blast
3) Call of the Herd
4) Remand
5) Repeal
I think that G/U can be a very formidable deck. I have been testing it against my TRON and my SOLAR POX decks and it is the most consistent. I wish I could test it against G/R land destruction and Dragonstorm though.
Mr. Fu is right. I'm actually a little more bored of Wrath right now. I play it in my deck, but that doesn't make it any more attractive.
Every control deck plays this card. Every aggro deck in green runs Call, every black runs Bob, every white runs Savannah Lions, every red runs Char, every blue runs PsiBlast. Blah.
Let us not forget that Skullclamp disappeared because of what it was capable of in the environment. In a more prepared environment, it might have been okay, but it being nonlengendary and able to draw double digits in contemporary aggro decks was just wrong.
Akroma does no such thing. She doesn't warp the format around her (I play Condemn because it's cheap and effective, not because it hits Akroma). She doesn't allow decks to do things they shouldn't normally be allowed to do. She's certainly a contender for Best Fatty Ever if not already the owner of that title.
Bottom line: if you're bored of seeing a good card too often, maybe you've been playing too much Magic. Or maybe playing tourney Magic is something you need to reconsider. Either way, don't play randoms on MWS.
I run blue/red with green for SSS and I don't have char or psionic blast in my deck or sideboard. It's a Tron deck and although I am a big fan of Char AND Psionic Blast and have at least 4 of each, I don't run them. Direct damage other than Electrolyze is not my game plan.
I think that most people here don't remember Killer Bees from Legends and what a good card it was. As for the Unyaro Bees being a 2/2 flying for GGG; that would be ridiculously good and would make the card immediately worth at least $25 even with the high amounts printed.
These are the only cards I've thought of for the deck so far.
4 Lightning Helix
4 Rite of Flame
4 Simian Spirit Guide
4 Stuffy Doll
4 Volcano Hellion
4 Rift Bolt
4 Wild Cantor
4 Shivan Meteor
4 Sacred Foundry
Can somebody think of a way to make this deck more competitive or is it just a dumb (perhaps casual play) idea?
That's what I was thinking. The Groundbreaker will die at the end of turn anyway unless there is some other trick.

Mortify Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir
