Great points Radouf. On the Kiki Trinkit mage thing: the guy plays a 64 card deck with 4 Chord of Calling, and 4 Evolution. I believe it was four colors running blue. I literately thought the same thing... "Trinkit Mage... why didn't I put that in my deck ." Either way the toolbox effect was real. Hell at one point he Nahiri'd out a Rec Sage, and it went right back into his hand. It was a tough grindy match up, but lots of fun.

As far as Capsule goes; if I add trinkit mages I will definitely use it. Nothing wrong with tutoring spot removal. I also agree I may have been thinking about capsule wrong, and using it incorrectly.

Some weird ideas I may try: upping land count and dropping talismans for Mishras Bauble. My thought is less cards in the deck, the faster a combo comes out, and bauble is a virtual -1 card. It also drops cards in hand faster. I also would like the third Mox Opal. And lastly: trinkit mage with more 1 drop hate cards in the SB, cutting lillys or Chalice down some. But take this with a grain of salt, I'm not a good deck builder nor am I a pro player :p and of course I have played the deck a grand total of once to date Grin Anyways I'm enjoying the deck.

Hey Fellas. Long Time lurker finally getting in my first game. To be honest I have never played the deck, but have seen a lot of people streaming this deck as of late and the Glint Nexts made me want to assemble the deck. Went to my local Modern night. Low turn out as its the opening Hockey game in Pittsburgh.

    2 Collective Brutality

    3 Sword of the Meek
    4 Thopter Foundry
    4 Ensnaring Bridge
    3 Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas

    Mana + 22 lands
    2 Mox Opal
    3 Talisman of Dominance

    1 Bloodstained Mire
    1 Creeping Tar Pit
    1 Island
    1 Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth
    2 Inventors' Fair
    2 Swamp
    2 Watery Grave
    4 Darkslick Shores
    4 Darksteel Citadel
    4 Polluted Delta

    Sideboard (15)
    3 Chalice of the Void
    1 Pithing Needle
    2 Relic of Prognosis
    2 Grafdigger's Cage
    2 Languish
    2 Flaying Tendrils
    3 Liliana of the Veil

    [deck]
This deck here is largely Radoufs. I used the shell as I felt this is what I would assemble myself after watching lot of matches of this deck. My LGS's meta is VERY fast. Infect, burn, deaths shadow, dredge etc. SO this is where my Sideboard comes from. Things I may adjust: The amulets never worked properly. I never got them on turn 2, then used them on a one drop spell. They also liked to arrive late. Mox Opal on the other hand was right at home. I also dislike executioners capsule. I notice it always puts someone down a turn. (Turn one play it, turn two use it). But then again I dont have the experience that you guys have with it, but I have yet to see it on the board comfortably. So I ran simple spells, if the BB wasn't so hard to hit in this deck I would run Bile Blight. More spot removal like disfigure would be great here.

Things that worked great: Crane! Yeah like you all didn't know that. Skite! people just have it out for spell skite. Even when I wasn't close to the combo, people were trying to kill it. Inventors Fair- the life gain was real, and so was the tutor. Great inclusion in the deck.

    Round 1 Deaths Shadow
I kept a hand of skit and 2x cranes I had a sword in hand + removal. He goes first and drops a swiftspear, this is after cycling a few street wraths and going down to 12ish. I kill SS, then play first crane, get the factory. And simply tire out his hand and combo off. Second game, I turn one IoK him and see lots of artifact hate. Ancient Grudge and a Revelry. I discarded what I could, but he killed a skite and 2x bridges to beat me. Last game I turn 2 Chalice on one. He was dead in the water after that. I figured it would just get blown up, but no juice for him. Combo'd out ftw. He dropped lands and at one point tried to cheat out a SS past Chalice :p

    Round 2 Affinity
I kept a hand of a lot of land but had a crane. I kept drawing lands, and he turn one'd dropped his hand on the table. I was dead in a few turns. He did say, he had no idea what I was on :p Next game I had combo in hand, and an opening Chalice on 0 did him dirty. The game went for awhile, but he coudlnt keep up with the Thoptors. Game three was really back in forth. Lots of spot removal on both sides. I used a Languish, an EE, and Flaying Tendrils to keep clearing his board. At one point I popped Inventors Fair to get a foundry. His turn he thought seizes it away. In the end the game board is just non creature artifacts. He has drums, plating opals etc. I have bridge, mana rocks, and pithing needle set to inkmoth (which he had two of). Then he drops Ghirpur Aether Grid. So now Im getting pinged for 3 damage a turn. I go down to 4 and topdeck a foundry, with a ton of mana open. Went up to 18 and killed him.

Round 3 Kiki Chord (last game) We split so I am 2-0-1
Truthfully I played sloppy as everyone was talking about other stuff at this point, so I wasn't as concerned with the outcome. Game one was a ton of back n forth with me trying to keep a Nahiri off the table. He actually used it to get a reclamation sage, and disrupt the combo. Eventually he Evolutions something for a Fire Giant, and picks off my remaining thoptors. I assemble combo again, and he trinket mages to find EE and sets it on two. This is after he blows up a bridge or two :p The deck is such a tool box deck its insane.

Last game I side out the combo figuring he would just Stoney or something. My turn one, I discard something. Turn 2 I drop pithing on Nahiri, and Grafdiggers. I get out a bridge, then a Tezz. I am dropping artifacts left and right. He Trinkit mages for needle, shutting down Tezz, and just top decks every possible artifact removal he could need. I drew no creature removal. Then scooped as it was getting late.

All and all, I had a lot of fun playing the deck. My opponents even seemed to enjoy playing against it, and lots of folks stopped by and watched. I may adjust SB to include trinkit mages. It was truly game changing what the guy did. I also may toy around with ratchet bombs if I dont go the TM route. Anyways thanks for reading guys.

To add to the Secure the wastes discussion. I ran it as a one of at my local modern night yesterday. It is a house of a card and won me four games easily. Oddly I cast it for 5 every time, and at instant speed when my opponent wasn't expecting it. The card saved me vs Milera company by blocking several creatures and wiping the board, then the next round acted as a 5 damage hammer. Against big Zoo it was just lights out, and blocked til I ulted Nahiri. Hilite of the night: I hard cast Emrakul because his turn 3 blood moon screwed us both for the longest modern game ever. Admittedly those two matches I haven't found hard in the past. But against Affinity I did use both Secure and Timely, which were OK as his threats were mostly in the air anyways. I won't say Timely is better or worse, as both have been useful to me. So I am running both maindeck right now but i give the nod slightly to secure since it ALWAYS functions as opposed to the life gain and tokens ALWAYS firing off when you cast it.

I also look at other control decks besides RWU to see what they are running and watched a lot of Wafotappo matches, and he masterfully deploys wastes in his builds and man is it a great card. I say if you have the room to try it, do so. It either buys time, or closes out games in a hurry. For me its most likely going to stay as a one of, while I removed a few Spell Queller. Run what you like, but don't be afraid to try a new card now and again.

After I get my cards I want to test Deadly Allure. Can work really well with recurring creatures or tokens or with menace. Also gets used twice and has the fun theme of my zombies at your creatures.

Has anyone done any testing with Blessed Alliance? Seems like it can be a decent sideboard slot. Decent against burn, great against boggles and infect. Worth a slot?

Tested yesterday as a one of SB card at my local Modern night. It three for one'd a pumped up Blighted agent yesterday. My local meta has three infect players and also burn players, so for me its a no brainer. If your meta has infect, bogles, or burn it could be a decent one or two of.

Definitely gonna try Spell Queller. It's an instant speed flying clock and tempo. Seems especially good to have vs decks with pump spells or counters.

I just tried/tested Spell Queller for the first time last night at my local modern night. I pulled V-Clique and ran 2 SQ MB and one side for testing purposes. One opponent was playing a Goryos Vengence / through the breach with Grizlbutt and Emrakul. Queller more than pulled its weight, and created a clock. I also used Queller against a Storm deck, and in game one of an infect match, he provided a speed bump for a turn or so.

I'll keep testing the card, but so far I really really like it. I can see it doing very well in a counter war situation or against deck where creature removal is a bit lighter.

Hey all, first post here with a Modern Night recap from last night. I'll start this by saying I have only just started playing B&W Death and Taxes on MOTO. I am a mediocre player at best. So here is the decklist I used. In looking at deck lists on here, this one by Machiefloyd seemed like the most fun to play, so I used it and made small adjustments.

My sideboard and my inclusion of the Eldrazi Temple are what differ mainly from Mackiefloyds list. My sideboard was specific for my LGS, as the last two times I went I always played infect and burn never fail.

    Game one - Infect W2-1
R1 I mull to 5, and still battled for about 8or 9 turns before I died, with Thalia and other helpers keeping me in the game. The deck immediately shown me it was resilient and could stand up well.
R2 After SB of skites, ZP, and celestial flare comes in I landed a turn two skite, and basically controlled the tempo of the game, landing sculler into Strangler and killing his threats.
R3 Was one of my favorites, because I was able to stabilize around turn 3 with scullers and strangers, and when he kept playing threats and killing mine I actually landed one Eldrazi Displacer with two Eladrazi Temple and two other lands in play(4 lands total.) I then kept flickering his threats. Once he relised he couldn't attack or block, the displacer and friends finished him off.

Game two - Mono Black Eldrazi W2-0
R1 I kept a great opener: vial, a few scullers, and ghost quarters. I was able to strip his hand, and GQ his temples. He played a Thought-not Seer of his own, which I pathed and drew a card from. Then in with the beats.
R2 We learned of an odd interaction as told to us by the judges. My opponent kept a hand with 2x Reality smashers, and thought it could be cast with Eye of Ugin and colored lands however; it needs a colorless mana to cast. This gave me a turn or two to get a wisp, arbitor as well as a displacer, with two E. Temples and other lands out. When hi finally landed an Eldrazi temple he sent both Reality Smashers at me, and I tapped on down with displacer discarding a land. I then flew over top with the beats and tapped his guys down with the displacer in the final turn or two locking him out of attacking me.

Game three - UR Storm W2-1
R1 I kept a two lander with Eldrazi Temple and a Caves. I got down two displacers and never seen the third land. I had Kitchen Finx, and scullers in hand. Opponent Storms me to death.
R2 I I played a turn two skuller, followed by a turn three Arbitor and GQing his land. I then landed a Thalia, and locked up the game D@T style.
R3 I landed a turn one vial, and a turn two sculler. I seen he had a Blood moon, which I was perfectly comfortable with. He played BM, which didnt help him because of the vial. Around turn 4 he played anger of the gods. I was able to flickerwisp my sculler who had a lightning bolt under it and then regrab the bolt when he returned to play. I then drew a Thoughtnot Seer and bumped up my vial to 4 on the following turn while swinging with sculler and grabbed his pyretic ritual he needed. Next turn swing for 6 and its over.

Game four - Big Zoo 1-1-1 We split for prizes as I wanted to get home since I had work in the morning. So with a more care free attitude I said sure this will be quick since its is zoo.
R1 He draws a perfect hand against my mull to 5. He is singing for 6 or 7 by turn 3 or 4. GG
R2 Again I mull and had an OK hand. I simply didnt draw any removal while he had bolts and paths for days. I lost to Nacatles, Pridemages, cat tokens.

So what I took away from this as a first time playing the deck and never testing it: The sideboard is set up too much for Infect, and could use a damnation, or more targeted removal. I also didn't see much of the mind censor, but then again he is a two of. I think Mindcensor could be replaced by fiend hunters, for more interaction with wasteland strangler. The biggest thing that concerned me is does Displacer work? Without a doubt he was the most fun card to play all night. He locked games up with the Eldrazi Temples on the field. I think playing Temple will fix most of the complaints I read on here about him being mana greedy. Also, Thoughtknot Seer is amazing. With this deck its a turn three Thoughtseize and a big body to go with it.

All and all this deck was a real treat to play, and can only get better as I tinker with it. I may even make a flicker only style deck with fiend hunters stonecloakers and other shenanigans, but that may be for another thread. Thanks for reading my ultra tired and long post.

I hate to detract from the conversation, but how do I beat combo? My meta is so combo infested that I'm thinking of abandoning this deck because I can't get BB's, fetches, and now Champions.

What combo decks are giving you the most trouble? Twin should be a cakewalk if you are playing a cookie cutter list. Tron, Scapeshift and Ad Nauseum are our worst matchups... not a whole lot we can do about these unless we devote half a sideboard to them... If you are seeing a ton of these three decks in particular, it may be worth picking up something else for the time being.

Something like Living End, Grishoalbrand or CoCo builds can be sideboarded against pretty well though.
There's lots of Twin, which is easy. The problem is that I'm 16 with no income, so I can never afford BB's, and now Champions. Living End is horrible matchup, as far as I can tell. I played against Knightfall and almost got there. To put this into perspective, both my buddy and I played against all combo, which is stupid because Jund, Junk, and Affinity were EVERYWHERE.
Rest in Peace beats Knightfall and Living End.

I would immediately cut that Kataki from the sideboard, unless you're incredibly worried about Lantern. Otherwise two Spectral seems aggressive. And I could also see cutting an Auriok Champion for a second Sorin, Solemn Visitor. It depends on what your meta looks like, but in a lot of matchups Auriok Champion just does nothing.

I was working most of the day. Did he use the Fulminators much today?

Hey you don't have a link to the replays of Clyde playing the BW deck by chance do you? Can't find it

I watched them immediately after the event ended. They're sadly long gone now.

    Bummer, thx anyways though.
