I'm 100% sure it's Mother of Runes. She's old. She looks like a protector who's about to cast a protection thing. But that won't stop people from thinking Force of Will is going to get reprinted...which won't happen.
Art looks like a shoo-in for Control Magic. As for guessing...
1994: most likely Control Magic, as other cards from that list are either on the reserved list or are underwhelming as an FTV include (although, WoTC has been known to it time and time again. lol)
1995: Winter Orb. Didn't receive the foil treatment, and I think it's not on the reserved lst
1996: Tough. I want to say Armageddon, although it has received the Judge treatment already
1997(as an aside, I thought Sideboard Magazine was awesome!): This is probably the year that debuted Force of Will, so I'm going with that as the chase card. I won't be surprised if Counterspell or Man o' War takes this spot as well
1998 (decklist. Scroll down to 1998 for Selden's list): Recurring Nightmare please! Ok, that won't happen, so I'll settle for Scroll Rack, although it has just been reprinted in the unfortunate Commander's Arsenal
1999: Just about every key card from Kai's deck is either reserved, or has been reprinted in an FTV, so I am stumped. I'd go with Vampiric Tutor from Jakob's deck
2004: Ahh...the year of Affinity. Although I'd like to go with the winning deck, I'd wager a showcase of Affinity, and its trademark beast, Arcbound Ravager
2010: There is only one card to rule them all, and that card came from this year. If there were one chase rare for this FTV, this will probably not get the nod over FoW. There is no other card that comes close other than being a land. Jace, the Mind Sculptor better take the cake here. WoTC will either print him here, or whatever else that will take over this place will most likely be the troll Desert of the set. Stoneforge Mystic will make a nice troll though
2012: I'm not sure if this year's FTV will come in before ISD block rolls out. I'm banking on either Blade Splicer or Phyrexian Metamorph to make a showing for this year though
I'm not sure about that. After Mark's article mentioning the Dimir/Selesnya thing and today's Arcana, I've come to the same conclusion as Caedere. Naturally, these alliances care about things in very different ways, but they can probably make allies of convenience in extremis.
Selesnya and Dimir both want order, for example. They want different kinds of order, for sure, but they both abhor chaos. Azorius and Rakdos I think is the wierdest, but I think you can rationalise it by saying that both guilds care very deeply about rules, just the Azorius like to make them and the rakdos like to break them. The anmimalistic nature of green is anathema to both.
IMO, people are misunderstanding that statement. It's only natural for Populate to work with Stolen Identity as a card. If there is a Populate card that pushes the power of Stolen Identity, that would be amazing. I don't think MaRo was refering to Cipher
I hope that they would expand on Fortification as a mechanic. I'm stoked for equipment for lands! That way they can reprint Stone Rain and no one would feel bad.
banned list for constructed dont apply to limited.
it is if it's the entry point for newer players into Modern.
I called right on the BBE ban, but I am surprised that yet another Storm component gets the axe. Storm is struggling as is, banning Seething Song is definitely the nail in the coffin imo
What if it's just one of those 'self-fulfilling prophecy' deals. Like, more people think Boros is the best, so more people pick it. Therefore more are in the top 8s.
This. All 3 prereleases at my shop had people snap up Boros quicker than any guild
I picked Orzhov. The guildpacks are a little misleading, and I think WB has a chance for better picks in Sealed
That said, a friend of mine picked Orzhov during the prerelease, but went full Boros because of the insane Boros cards he opened. Aurelia, Firemane Avenger, Spark Trooper, Legion Loyalist out of the other 5 packs, and 3 Mugging and Smite to seal the removal package...I mean, really? (the same guy opened 2(!) Duskmantle Seer in his Dimir pool earlier)
Recurring Nightmare and Cursed Scroll are on the Reserved list, according to research ;). I do like the idea of Stasis being reprinted though

2000: Rishadan Port please! A man can dream!
2001: Flametongue Kavu is a standout here. Still a good reprint, even though it has been done multiple times
2002: Psychatog or Upheaval. I'd go with the latter for being more iconic
2003: Exalted Angel. Iconic creature for its time
2004: Ahh...the year of Affinity. Although I'd like to go with the winning deck, I'd wager a showcase of Affinity, and its trademark beast, Arcbound Ravager
2005: Umezawa's Jitte, hands down
2006: a toss-up between Remand, Bogardan Hellkite (maybe as the 'downer' of the set?), or Dragonstorm (another downer, albeit a fun one)
2007: Thoughtseize? 6 of the top 8 decks used them. I can't see any other card apart from Tarmogoyf that aren't filler cards. Other than that, either Masked Admirers or Ohran Viper fit my FTV bill
2008: Mistbind Clique, Vendillion Clique or Bitterblossom, either of which I would be happy with
2009: Nothing is as iconic as Bloodbraid Elf in this era
2010: There is only one card to rule them all, and that card came from this year. If there were one chase rare for this FTV, this will probably not get the nod over FoW. 2011: Inkmoth Nexus is my bet, although I can see Thrun, the Last Troll too

Outside of limited, I'm not so sure. She's a little too slow for the current environment, and is rather weak against a lot of removal
